It cost over $700.00, which is prohibitive for many kids. It is supposed to have terrible side effects, particularly the possibility of birth defects. She had to have a negative pregnancy test for two months before they'd start treatment, even though she said she had not been sexually active. Then of course she had to show them a new negative test each month. Insurance doesn't pay for the doctor bills or the medications, because it's cosmetic. Recently she had to start accutane again because of a bad bout with acne. She's since turned 18 and is handling it herself, and she says that the medication itself is much cheaper. The problem that I see is that if you take it after 48 hours it is useless and it's difficult to tell that you've got the flu for the first 48 hours. So it seems kind of useless to me. Plus there is a problem of people asking for medications when they will do no good, like after the 48 hour period. If you're worried about the flu get a flu shot and I think you're better off. Since there are various medications that clear up that problem, why don't schools have a "gee, you know you don't need to be a scarred for life pizzaface" class after sex ed. where they point out that this is a very easy problem to solve.
