Hey cats,
Advertising is a protected form of free speech. Some lawyers still don't advertise, but the Yellow Pages has pages of those who do. If you have excellent skills, people will find you. Being really good at what you do helps you stay out of the rat race. I'm not big on advertising, but I'm not against it. Even if you win the rat race, you are still a rat. Advertising can be a real rat race. Say cheese!

Author Brennan, Catherine M.
Title Law banning lawyer advertising falls as free speech violation : Md. statute meant to preserve profession's image rejected; attorneys can now contact clients without 30-day wait / by Catherine M. Brennan.

I hope someone goes after Google:
http://www.webmasterworld.com/forum86/326.htm

They clearly have a policy of age discrimination based on the this statistic:
"The average age of Google's male workers was 29.7 years old and the average age of women was 28.4 years old".

I'm well over their average age myself which is clear from my experience profile on my resume. I sent them a resume for one of their many open positions a short while back but never heard back from them, even though I met all the qualifications. Just coincidence? One has to wonder...

Sorry Tim Westby, but you're wrong. For the greater part of our history attorneys have not been able to advertise. It was thought to be demeaning to the bar. But in reality it was all about protecting the status quo. If new attorneys were unable to advertise, only older established attorneys would get new business by word of mouth. That kept them rich.

There are still similar restrictions around to this day:

The stock was $3.68 at last check. Sun isn't really even worth thinking about at this point. Maybe the lawyers are just going to move in and smash the remains to bits.

This just came across the wire.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) -- Shares of computer hardware and software maker Sun Microsystems Inc. climbed Friday on a report the company is gearing up to go private, a notion that was strongly denied by the company.

Go private, go away or whatever. I've come to the belief that Sun just doesn't matter. Face it Sun is just about done. Stick a fork in it.
