Oh, I suppose it just fell on you from out of the sky...?

(This is why I wear a condom 24/7) : )

While I have no problem with pure scientific research, especially when it may lead to the creation of new medicines and other advancements, it is possible for research to be more potentially dangerous than it is potentially helpful or insightful.

This is one of those times.

It doesn't matter if the samples burned up- they had the gall in the first place to put them on a Cessna and put them in a position to be spread over a wide area, right above a major meropolitan center. Insanity! If the plane had not burned up, what would they have done? They ought to create a term for these sorts of mishaps along the lines of "broken arrows." Perhaps "Shattered Vials" or "Stupid Slip-ups."

The next time, it isn't going to burn up, and it is not going to be the herpes virus- it is going to be the Spanish Flu (which they just resurrected) or some form of bubonic plague. So back to my original statement: If you can't ensure even your own safety with 100% certainty, and if the consequences of a mistake can kill millions, then perhaps you shouldn't perform the experiment!
