Can I open a music store and sell music to work with iPods? No. Fairtunes will not be licensed. HP making a few cents selling Apple’s product is not quite the same thing as this Sony AAC deal. Not that Sony gets Fairtunes either, but you still deviated from the topic and then got really really defensive. So in short, you cannot use your iPod anywhere but iTUnes, and you can’t use iTunes Music Store without an iPod. No matter what you think of the HP deal, it was still an iPod and iTunes. No competition, no interoperability. And for the pedants, YES I can rip my CD’s blah blah blah… but, for purchased music with DRM, iTunes is the only place for iPods.

Read my post, I said they were ipods with HPs name on them. Apple licensed it to them and HP got the profit. I guess you can’t read in addition to hiding behind the the tag of “name”

As for HP, they had rebranded iPods yes, but they were still… wait for it… iPODS! Big difference. Also, there was no HP itunes, there was just itunes. Your argument is facile.

Bush made sure that all the foundations are in place for the growth of non-terroistic supporting technologies, and you liberals / commies just want everything free anyway…

And, FWIW, Apple will not license “Fair”play to anyone, no matter how sweet the pie. Apple want’s to have a vertical integration of their entire line of products, and they will sue anyone who tries to take that away from them… They’re like a young IBM / MS / ATT / take your pic… makes me kind of weepy actually.
