#9...yep....I read all those things. But, the only real policy change there was the Roe v Wade switch. All the rest are just sentences taken from speech's over a 7 year period.
Of course he's kissing some right wing ass....to win the Republican nomination you have to these days since they control the nomination process. Just like some Democrats are kissing the left wings ass to win the Democratic nomination.
So-called Independents(actually lazy Democrats) are never satisfied with Republican or Conservative candidates. In a general election, McCain will take 40%, maybe more of the Independent vote, and thats all a Republican needs.

#10...you better wake up....there are Democrats that could win in 2008...but Hillary isn't the one. And you may be in for a sad morning after the election if you think a Republican can't win.

I'm thinking of maybe supporting Wesly Clark if he runs again.

I don't really believe there is a Republican in the country who could win the White House in '08. Unless the Democrats shoot themselves in the foot (again) it's going to be a Hillary romp all the way to the Oval Office.

Ingratiating himself to the radical conservative Christian fundamentalist wing of the Republican Party has made him a pariah to independent voters who were once his strongest base. John McCain defines smarmy.

The war has really blown it for the Republicans.

Its simple.. We cant afford it. There are lots of things that would be nice.. Like buying all the homeless a house.. maybe giving a thank you check of $1000 to all the americans who always pay their taxes..

Dumb ideas or not dumb ideas.. Thats not the point. The point is, we cant afford it.

To say.. well hey.. They MIGHT strike again.. So we have to strike first.. thats some dumb A logic.. By that logic we should anihilate all Muslims because they MIGHT strike..

#4 …McCain has always been a Conservative. When did he become a fake one?

McCain has been a reasonable conservative but lately he as begun pandering to the wacko neo-con wing of the party to get the nomination.

McCain USED to be one of the conservatives that we liberals respected and even liked. Partly we liked him because he would occasionally stand up for principled common sense -- like campaign finance reform, treating gays like as Americans or against torture -- despite fierce opposition from his own party.

But he's caved on those positions. We libs also liked him because he'd tell the truth sometimes, like calling Jerry Falwell an "agent of intolerance". (which, of course, described Falwell perfectly)

But now, to get elected, McCain is giving that big phashist hugs and kisses.

#2...really? Please, examples, and proof please.

#3...McCain has always been a Conservative. When did he become a fake one?

He has always been a fiscal Conservative, and has always been Pro-life(though he has just recently said that his position has always been to throw out Roe v Wade, which is a Conservative position, since it's a states right's issue, not a Federal one).......the most Liberal thing he is for is Gay Civil Unions, but not Gay Marriage. He's pro-enviroment, that happens to be a Republican issue dating back to Teddy Roosevelt.

If your a Liberal, he's not going to be Liberal enough for you, if your a Moderate, he won't be Moderate enough and if your a Conservative, he's probably not Conservative enough for you. That makes him just right.

He has, since the invasion of Iraq been a critic of not enough troops to do the job and no plan for after the fighting. He hasn't changed that position. He understands the importance of leaving Iraq as stable as possible(though I think thats long past now). I happen to not agree with him on the troop increases, I think we should be withdrawing.

But as of now, he is the person most likely to get my support. Hillary is out of the question. Obama isn't going to be around this time next year, after the media turns on him. The rest of the Republicans are neo-cons, except for Guiliani, but I don't think he can win the primaries.

>>Meh. Just what we need, another neocon running for president.

McCain is actually WORSE than that... he's a neocon POSER.

He's not even a real deal conservative nutcase. He's just playing one to get elected.

As much as I hate to use the term "flip-flopper", there was never a better case in point than this man. Hopefully people will see past his 5 and a half years in Hanoi and realize his inability to take a firm stand on the issues at hand.
