Uncompromising Airport and Zambia Police Officers could not however allow the crew access to the accident site as management had instructed them not to allow the press.

Efforts to get a comment from South African Airways officials also proved futile as they categorically refused to comment on the matter.

  1. Les says:

I wonder when the “airlines” (or a “security department”) will state that the operation of camcorders will be hazardous while on an airplane.

  2. Tippis says:

#1 Well, it is dangerous: you might manage to demonstrate that someone working for the airline in question is incompetent, at which point they will punch you in the mouth.

Sounds kind of dangerous to me…

  3. Danijel says:

    Who parked that truck there?!

And how come there’s always someone filming the whole landing sequence when something like this happens? It’s like Orwell’s 1984-2.0!

  4. chuck says:

Obviously the video camera somehow interfered with the plane’s navigation system.

  5. Glenn E. says:

This demonstrates yet again, how much pull the airlines and aerospace industries have in the world. Their financial security is considered of paramount importance, even over concerns of the public’s safety. At some point in the future, you can be sure that camcords and camera phones will be comfiscated from airline passengers, following such runway incursions. After all, there are millions of dollars of company stock at risk. And passengers have no more “rights” aboard a plane, than they do aboard a cruiseship. Those have all been “internationalized” away.

  6. Glenn E. says:

Dude. The slider gadget on the video window is broken. I never moved once for me. At least not for my Firefox browser.

  7. BubbaRay says:

If the pilot had the aircraft on the proper taxiway and the nosewheel on the centerline, it’s definitely not his fault. That’s why there are lines painted on the taxiway edges — thou shalt not encroach.

Else, as they say, the pilot “really screwed the pooch.”
