I can see it now… President Bush, resplendent in his war hero uniform, is standing in front of a huge banner (how about something like ‘Mission Accomplished’?) and is telling a rapt audience of Fox News reporters and right wing radio talk show hosts that we won the war on terror and are retiring the phrase. Explosive applause! We have to keep fighting, however, he says, against ‘psychotic religious fanatics’ who oddly sound exactly like the terrorists we beat into submission. I obviously must be mistaken about that…
Britain Drops ‘War on Terror’ Label
The words “war on terror” will no longer be used by the British government to describe attacks on the public, the country’s chief prosecutor said Dec. 27.Sir Ken Macdonald said terrorist fanatics were not soldiers fighting a war but simply members of an aimless “death cult.”
The Director of Public Prosecutions said: ‘We resist the language of warfare, and I think the government has moved on this. It no longer uses this sort of language.”
London is not a battlefield, he said.
“The people who were murdered on July 7 were not the victims of war. The men who killed them were not soldiers,” Macdonald said. “They were fantasists, narcissists, murderers and criminals and need to be responded to in that way.”

Ain’t hindsight wonderful? Especially in the wonderful world of opportunist politicians.
The same cowards who went along with the Neocon agenda – now hope to retain their seat in power by criticizing their previous advocacy of the crusade which shattered the lives of hundreds of thousands of people in the Middle East.
Mainstream political hacks have finally come round – in the UK, anyway – to validating the criticisms of those who had the courage and understanding to oppose imperial reaction and greed.
Unsurprising, the pallid leaders of the Loyal Opposition in America continue to trot through their Primary pantomime – pretending to lead when they are years behind having any principles or backbone.
In response to Eideard above…
This is another place where Misanthropic Scott has it right. The only candidates running right now that actually mean to change things are Kucinich and Paul. Although among the ‘leading’ candidates I’d have to say Barack Obama comes the closest.
TWAT is a marketing phrase. Death cult is an accurate description of an ideology based on a nomadic desert tribe.
War on Terror
War on Drugs
War on Crime
War on Poverty
You can’t fight a war against an abstraction.
America does not feel comfortable with not having something called a “war”.
War is used in America by certain people to suck public funds into there own pocket.

Coming soon… War on Bed Bugs
I just couldn’t be a Politician…
I mean, either I would have a stomach as big as a house to digest all the BS and pass it along with a straight face, or I would actually have to believe it, making me a the posterboy of the psychiatric ward…
“War on Terror” was a BRILLIANT move by the Bush administration. It provided him a reelection platform (fear) but also to feed the military complex and all its suppliers for decades. The whole point is to keep it going !!!
Think about it. It is sufficiently vague so that no end can be claimed and who would be against it?
Let’s see, no major attacks in the USA since 9/11, thanks to George W. Bush. So maybe you’re right. Maybe the War on Terror has been won.
Let;s face, it the Prez just likes to fly. Especially on and off a carrier… I would too if I could!!!
I agree with #9… and if we were attacked again, Prez Bush would know just what to do about it.
#9. if Dumbya gets the credit for no attacks on US soil since 9/11/2001, shouldn’t he get the blame for 9/11 itself? after all, both happened (or did not happen) on his watch …
“They were fantasists, narcissists, murderers and criminals … ”
see, I love the Brits. the best that inarticulate boob in the White House can manage is to call them “cowards.”
1993: World Trade Center bombed. No effective response from the Clinton Administration.
1996: U.S. Air Force housing complex in Saudi Arabia bombed. No effective response from the Clinton Administration.
1998: U.S. embassies in Kenya and Tanzania bombed. No effective response from the Clinton Administration.
2000: USS Cole attacked. No effective response from the Clinton Administration.
George W. Bush: Overthrew the Taliban in Afghanistan, overthrew Saddam Hussein in Iraq.
Doug, 9/11 is the legacy of the Clinton Administration.
#6, Jägermeister,
