Detroit mayor faces felony charges – CNN.com — Everything you do is being monitored. You’d think a pro would know that.

Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick and an ex-aide were charged Monday with perjury and obstruction of justice after prosecutors said sexually explicit text messages between the two contradicted their sworn court testimony.

Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick reportedly sent romantic texts to his chief of staff, contradicting earlier testimony.

Kilpatrick defiantly declared his innocence just an hour after the charges were announced.

“This has been a very flawed process from the beginning,” said Kilpatrick at a press conference Monday. “I look forward to complete exoneration.”

Kilpatrick, who is married, has been snarled in a well-publicized sex scandal since January after The Detroit Free Press reported he exchanged romantic text messages with his then-chief of staff, Christine Beatty.

The paper reported in January that in an analysis of nearly 14,000 text messages on Beatty’s city-issued pager, it found some from 2002 and 2003 that indicated the two were having a romantic affair.

The idiots were using city owned cell phones. All data was discoverable.

  2. jbusch7 says:

Take a minute and read the whole story.

The mayor and his chief of staff had an affair years ago and covered it up. A police investigation into his security detail was getting to close to the cover up so the mayor had the officers fired. They sued for wrongful termination and threaten to spill the beans on him and his chief of staff. He settles the lawsuit for almost 10 million dollars from the city coffers to keep it hush hush.

    Payback is a $%@%

even text messages sent from a personal device are sitting on the providers network somewhere for who knows how long.

Does anyone know what party this fellow belongs to?

I wonder why like the editor would forgot to include the party affiliation.

  6. pat says:

#5 – He’s black and is the mayor of Detroit. Could only be from one party…

  7. GigG says:

Because it is against CNN and the media in general’s policy to mention a wrong doing Democrats party affiliation while at the same time leading the story with the party affiliation if it is a Republican.

I haven’t seen an AP style book in a few years but it wouldn’t surprise me if the rule was in there.

    #6 ANC?

  9. roemun says:

It’s quite clear that this is a Bush/Cheney conspiracy tp get the man.

you are dead right. I just looked at the major articles on Kwame from the AP, DET NEWS, FREEP, and MLIVE and not one mentions his party affiliation or the fact he’s a DEMONCRAP!

Ya think if he was a Republican it would have been mentioned not once but any chance the paper got to type Republican? YOU BET!

Regardless, Detroit is a shining example of what you get when Democraps run things. They run it right into the GROUND!

  11. Sam says:

Nobody here in Michigan mentions that he’s a Democrat because everybody in Detroit is a Democrat. It would be like mentioning that the sky is blue. It’s not media bias, it’s papers targetting a local, informed, audience.

  12. pat says:

#12 – I call B.S. If everybody was a Dem in Detroit it would be a “workers paradise”. It is a crap hole. So clearly, it’s not run by Democrats…

Everyone should assume that any information every transmitted digitally can and will be used against them at a future point in time.

The closest you can come to a private conversation in our modern world is a face-to-face conversation. And even that could be recorded.

Scott McNealy whas right when he said that privacy was dead and that we should just ‘get over it’. Instead, focus on ensuring that what people do discover about you (and they will) represents the person you want them to discover.

  14. jbenson2 says:

#13 – So, are you saying that Kwame Kilpatrick – the Mayor of Detroit – is not a Democrat?

From what I have seen so far, most of the left-wing media do not want report on his party affiliation.

Come on, Pat. Be bold and tell us what party the Mayor belongs to.

  15. pat says:

#15 – Don’t tell me satire is beyond your intellectual grasp…

someone tell wifey to get dressed – there’s gonna be a press conference

“Everyone lies about sex”, so nothing done to cover up an affair, or BJ, can be considered illegal.

    (That’s a joke, BTW.)

  19. PanamaRich says:

Yeah, he’s a Dem. Other news stories have confirmed that, but I want to know why doesn’t this guy have a neck? If they’re going to hang him, where are they going to hang him from?
