Mike Huckabee isn’t running for anything, but he has something planned for April 15.

Huckabee’s Web site — which resembles his campaign site — has a clock counting down the seconds until 12:00 p.m. EST on April 15. He is also scheduled to give a speech at Cornell University that evening called, “In God We Trust: The Role of Faith in Politics.”

“The First Amendment requires that expressions of faith be neither prohibited nor preferred,” Huckabee said in a Cornell press release announcing the lecture. “We should not banish religion from the public square, but should guarantee access to all voices and views. We should share and debate our faith, but never seek to impose it.”

Rumors of Huckabee’s next step have been swirling since he won the Iowa caucuses in January. Some have suggested he could play a leading role in galvanizing religious conservatives, or that he could launch a program around his Fair Tax proposal (his big rollout is on Tax Day). Others believe he may become a political commentator or host a television show. His name has also been mentioned as a running mate for McCain.

I can’t stand the suspense……ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!

My guess he will have his own spiritual channel like the other crazies. It’s big money.

I want to see him dressed up in white with a rain collection cone on his head.

  2. Ah_Yea says:

    Maybe it’s the rapture!

  3. julieb says:

Judging from Huckabee’s quote in the article, I’m encouraged.

I just hope he does something positive. As opposed to negative, like launching an anti-atheist, anti-gay or anti-American initiative to spew more hate.

  4. OhForTheLoveOf says:

#3 – But without hate, they got nothing…

  5. JimD says:

“Christians” WHINING again !!! The Constution and the Bill of Rights have taken NOTHING FROM THEM, it just doesn’t give them EVERYTHING THEY WANT – LIKE A DICTATORSHIP OF CHURCHMEN !!! Remind you of some other religion that likes to DICTATE TO THE CIVIL GOVERNMENT ??? Hint: it begins with the letter M and is found in countries with lots of sand – and oil !!! The Founding Fathers were well aware of the Religious Warfare that spang forth from “Established Religions” and WANTED NONE OF THAT OVER HERE AND THEREFORE ***PROHIBITED AN ESTABLISHEMENT OF ANY RELIGION, LEAVING MATTERS OF FAITH TO THE INDIVIDUAL … Smart fellows, those Founding Fathers !!!

  6. JimD says:

    An interesting link:

A story from Time Magazine in 1934 about Church Tax Exemptions … Read it and imagine how the Professional “Chri$tian Con$ervative$” would HOWL ABOUT PAYING ANY TAXES ON THE LOOT THE PLUNDER FROM THEIR “FLOCKS” !!!

  7. Self Appointed Genius says:

Actually, I heard he was converting to Scientology.

  8. lou says:

I thought this guy went away.

  9. AaronSTL says:

“We should share and debate our faith”

    Someone notify Bart Ehrman!

  10. the answer says:

role of faith in politics? Maybe this asshole forgot about the separation of Church and State… Go home and practice your bass guitar. April 15.. 12 pm… I’ll be sure to be taking a shit at that time.

  11. Personality says:

    “What’s Mike Huckabee up to?”

    Biblethumping.

  12. Mr. Catshit says:

He is announcing he is really gay and a Meth addict. God is punishing him for his hidden life style and he has tested positive for HIV. He wants to announce this so all his past partners, many of whom he never did catch their names, can know and be tested themselves.

He wants everyone to understand he will get better after going through spiritual rehab. Just keep on sending in the money.

NOTE: While I really wouldn’t wish something like HIV on anyone, there are those who I wish less so than others.

  13. chuck says:

    He’s going to endorse Hillary!

  14. greenbacks says:

Promoting a belief in an imaginary being should never be a part of politics. Mind you, Bush has a host of imaginary demons in his head but that still doesn’t make it right (these will all come out in the trial).
I’d be surprised if Huckle doesn’t try to make some money off his religious stance as he’s probably been asked to do that by “someone”.

  15. chukmaty says:

I am actually really pumped. This guy did a great job as Governor and people calling him a knuckle dragger does not change that. He is a bright man with great ideas and he has always been a consensus builder. His comments on Obama’s pastor I think are indicitive of the post election tone he wants, this guy will be the one pushing forward dialogh on real solutions for the next four years, mark my words.

  16. OhForTheLoveOf says:

Any discussion of the role of faith in politics will be short.
    —–
Ahem… Thank you for coming. I’d like to talk to you about the role of faith in politics. There is no role for faith in politics. Thank you for coming. Drive safe.

  17. rectagon says:

Um. Does he actually make sense here? I think he does!! Go figure.

  18. mdelbranson says:

I think a lot of you are not giving him the credit he deserves. He was a great governor, turning around an educational system that Bill Clinton and Jim Tucker left in ruins. While his presidential campaign was albeit a little silly at times, many of his comments and positions were commendably forthright and inclusive. He supported improving education as a major issue of his campaign, restructuring taxation to not disfavor working Americans, favoring health care reform to move towards universal access as part of his “pro-life” agenda. He spoke with negative criticism of Bush’s war in Iraq and with positive regard to the virtues of Democratic candidates. He did not go negative against anyone in his campaign, even taking time at a Republican debate to be the only GOP candidate to give Obama credit and praise for stirring the hearts of Americans and getting them involved in the political process again.

Granted, I disagree with him in regards to his stance on a pro-life/anti-abortion ammendment to the constitution, and for that reason, I don’t expect I could ever have voted for him. Moral conservative pro-life voters though are not going to go away, and if they were to find a new leader who could speak on their behalf, I’d much rather it be him than James Dobson or some other wingnut. At least if Huckabee became the mouthpiece of pro-life agenda moral voters, the tone could become more conciliatory, more understanding of opposition, and diffused over a number of issues (some of which are more part of the democratic platform) rather than just one big unreasonable hot-button issue. The man’s a Republican, but he’s a Republican populist, so at least he’s looking out for the little guy.

    Those are just my thoughts.

    Obama 08

More conciliatory? Values voters want to strip women of their natural right to reproductive freedom. That’s it. That’s the end of it. They either will succeed or will fail, but they will never compromise. That is the alpha and the omega of the issue.

Huckabee is a nice guy, I guess… and maybe a capable administrator, I suppose… and maybe a hellova lot thinner than he used to be, like we should care… but he’s a Baptist Minister and in my view that disqualifies him from being able to represent the whole of the public, and especially me. His faith guides his decisions, and that is too dangerous to a free society.

  20. Computer says:

He USED PHOTOSHOP to make it like that. He cut out the face of Huckabee and put it on mini uzi man. Im a Republicrat.

  21. Katrina says:

I am just sick that Fox is putting this guy up on his own show. He’s not one to talk about freedom of religion after the hate-spewing he did during the primaries against mormons. I can’t believe he’s being honored in this way after his greed and prejudice were all but forgotten.
