Hundreds of Iraqi schoolchildren were brought to the modest mausoleum of Saddam Hussein on Monday to celebrate the birthday of the executed dictator in the village where he was born.

Saddam, who was hanged in late 2006 for crimes against humanity, is hated in much of Iraq. But in parts of his native Salahuddin Province, especially among his fellow Sunni Arabs, he is still revered.

“Bush, Bush you low-life! Saddam’s blood is not cheap!” a crowd of pupils in white uniforms from a nearby girls’ school chanted while standing around Saddam’s grave in the mausoleum where he is buried among displays and photos of his reign…

Faten Abdel Qader, one of the organizers, said Saddam’s legacy was the memory of a time of peace.

“The children who lived during the age of this man had security. They didn’t know anything about murder, violence or sectarianism,” she said. “An Iraqi woman could hold her head high.”

We already know his blood cost a great deal of lives – and money. Bush is still handing it out.

If we were any good at anti-terrorism Saddam style, we would follow these girls home and kill them, their familes, and their neighbors on each side.

But we don’t have the will to rule as did Saddam.

  2. mv says:

Bobo, you are welcome to third-world dictatorships supported by U.S.

  3. bobbo says:

#3–mv==my own preference would be to do away with third-world dictatorships. That would be difficult to do given the majority of the world is ruled by them.

As long as he’s still dead.

Animals. This is what cruise missles are made for.

Aside from the requisite varying levels of testosterone, what doesn’t surprise me – is how amazed and offended my fellow Americans get over some part of the world having different cultural values than this land, chosen by God and history to tell every else how to live and die.

“Parochial” don’t just mean the elementary school you attended.

  7. bobbo says:

#6–Moss, I don’t know what you mean. Those little kiddies are acting just like good red blooded American republicans. The kiddies are told by their parents they used to have it real good. They were the top 1% with all the power and then the USA invaded and it all went away and now they have to treat their ethnic and religious neighbors with respect.

    What republican wouldn’t hate that?

Same sort of stuff happens in the USA.

On April 20 in Indiana, there was a celebration for Hilter’s birthday. A politician attended to make a speech.

Sadam’s grave should have never been marked. Indeed, when they found him hiding in the hole, they should have called the cement truck and silently have been done with him.

  10. MikeN says:

Using kids for propaganda. Happens everywhere. At least they aren’t having them strap bombs.

  11. Ron Larson says:

Gotta love how they harp about the good times under Saddam’s rule. Yup, there are a small number of North Koreans living well too. It makes life nice when you are on the good side of a mass murdering ruthless dictator. There are lots of Russians who still miss Stalin.

But God help you if you should ever disagree with your “leader”. What a bunch of stupid sheep.

  12. ThankGodForTheBomb says:

This is exactly why the bomb is around. Pull back and make a new mirror for the Hubble. Yeah, I know, all you liberal nut jobs out there will come out calling for my blood, but you know what? I don’t give a flying shit. They can’t live with each other, let alone anyone who isn’t Islamic. Yeah, I know Christians are hypicritical too, but sorry, when was the last time you saw them teaching kids as young as 3 it’s ok to strap a bomb on yourself and blow people up?

    Nuke the whole fucking area.
