Samsung Group has announced its largest ever investment plan, saying it will increase hiring just a week after the conglomerate’s long-serving chief announced his resignation.

Samsung said that it will boost investment 24 percent to 27.9 billion U.S. dollars in 2008 in everything from semiconductor production to shipbuilding.

The investment will account for about 30 percent of the combined total of the 600 largest South Korean corporations this year, it said…

Samsung also said that group companies plan to hire 20,500 employees this year, an increase of 28 percent from last year.

Warms the cockles of your heart to see the U.S. recession isn’t bothering everyone else on the planet.

  1. Sea Lawyer says:

Are we going by the Eideard definition of what a recession is now? The last numbers the BEA have released are 4th quarter 2007, and GDP had still grown by 0.6 percent.

  2. moss says:

Runaway and hide #1. Your ignorance – and the Bush Administration – won’t protect you.

Some guy named Greenspan disagrees with you. As do many competent economists. As do a lot of working folks who are hurting.

Absolutely, the US recession is an opportuintiy to invest and gain market share later on

  4. keane-o says:

It’s always hilarious how many dipwads like #1 would rather cavil and quibble. After all, everything is probably mellow at the 13th Hole of their country club.

And why look over the fence to see what the poor people are doing, today? The government will tell us everything we need to know.

  5. Sea Lawyer says:

#2, what did you do, google “greenspan” and “recession” and post the first thing that popped up? Words have meanings, and opinions don’t, by themselves, meet the conditions of them.

  6. moss says:

#5 – All I needed to Google was the latest reference from Greenspan. There are a few folks here who read more than the comics. Even though some government “analysis” qualifies for the latter.

Figured you’d need a link to know who Greenspan is.

You may now return to talk radio.

please don’t mention your cockles again…thanks

  9. god says:

Uh, anyone know of any American corporations planning on hiring over 20,000 folks in the next year?

Outside of their operations in China, of course.

  10. Sea Lawyer says:

#7, yeah thanks, somewhere between taking classes on game theory and public choice I missed who the Fed chairman before Bernanke was. Boy do I feel dumb…

  11. Brett says:

God these asian women are so friggin beautiful.

    I got yellow fever.

  12. Pagon says:

    #10 has it right.

If we still manufactured ANYTHING in this country anymore, we might have some jobs available.

  13. Jägermeister says:

#6 – James Hill – Prediction: The economy will improve on November 5th of this year.

Those of you in the know will know why.

Bombing Iran will propel the US economy?

The only Korean I know is, “I not Oriental!”

  15. floyd says:

Bulgogi, mandu, Taejigogi Kochu’jang. There, I spoke some Korean (food of course). And I have a Samsung phone too. Is there a position open for a guy to hand out cell phones to those models?

  16. floyd says:

Eideard (and anyone else in NM): if you want to try good Korean food, try this place in Albuquerque:
