Martha Stewart banned from Britain — Here’s a country that is stocked with radicals and terrorists but Martha Stewart is a threat to society. Once again the Brits show what utter a-holes they have become by letting their own idiot bureaucrats push them around.
A UK Border Agency spokesman said, “We continue to oppose the entry to the UK of individuals where we believe their presence in the United Kingdom is not conducive to the public good or where they have been found guilty of serious criminal offences abroad.”
This is not the first time in recent years that celebs have been banned from Britain for potentially being a threat to the public. In 2007, Snoop Dog was denied access to the UK for the second time in less than a year. Looks like Martha’s now in the same boat as Snoop.
In fact this whole situation amounts to USA “exit controls” similar to those imposed by the Soviet Union and the fascist countries in the 1930′s. No fly lists, required passenger manifests and other computerized systems are all designed as a de facto “exit control” system to keep people from leaving the country when they want to.

it is not that different trying to get into canada. i believe 30-40% of the employees of the company i work for cannot enter canada because of past minor scrapes with the law, even if the convictions are many years in the past.
She is annoying. That should be reason enough to keep her out.

It is stupid, but every country does it. At least she was convicted and spent time in jail.
The U.S. bars Canadians who have simply been CHARGED with a crime in Canada. Not convicted. Just charged.
I once got in a minor scrap and the police arrested me and finger-printed me. The case was ridiculous, and the crown attorney dropped it. But my lawyer told me to make sure I get my fingerprints removed from the police files before trying to enter the U.S., as they share them with U.S. Homeland Security, and I could find myself barred for life.
How is this an exit control, to have other countries not let you in?

I like this site for the most part, but I get annoyed by the dis-proportionate number of posts about the UK!

People like her should be properly treated by the level of sleazyness they exhibit.
This only shows how sensitive people in Europe are to be criticized when doing the right thing. Are you gonna take this law (or champion) against convicted felons away because you feel negatively criticized?

Does anyone know why Dvorak has so many negative posts about the UK? Maybe he’s been watching too many Mel Gibson films or I suspect he had some bad experience in London in the 60′s.

Not allowing to to visit the UK is part of the problem of having a felony conviction. Most States also deny her the right to own a firearm (some even include defensive items such as a bullet proof vest), to vote, they must register with the Sheriff, work in some occupations, or live with-in a certain distance from a school.
Most civilized countries do not allow visitors that have a criminal past.
#2–Newspeak==You assume a lot in your question but as a colonist I would say that we look to “Mother England” as the root and birth of our American freedoms and independence. Magna Carter, Courts of Equity, control of the Church if not a separation thereof, creation of Parlimentary Government, etc.
When the Mother goes off the deep end, we have concern for ourselves as we aren’t that much different, as on this issue as been shown. If anyone posted above that Canada also won’t let Martha visit, I’ll confirm it again. Don’t know about Montreal.
