Wish I spoke Chinese. I’m certain their first moments of spacewalk were as rehearsed as ours or the Russians – but, it’s still a kick for a longtime space geek.

It appears to be a tethered spacewalk. Meaning he’s getting his air and power from a tether line.

I would have thought they might have used a fully self contained system like the U.S. does. But I guess you have to start somewhere.

Any country that engages in space exploration for either scientific achievment or a political statement has guts AND vision. You may not like China, but they are part of the club now. Might as well let them in on the secret hadshake.

Be nice… they will be giving US astronauts rides in a couple of years.

According to the OFFICIAL NASA schedule, the Space Shuttle will stop flying in 2010, after which time there will be no (as in none, zero, nada) US manned space vehicles active.

There is some project to build a replacement rocket, but it is all new and never been built, much less test… what do you think the odds are of that being finished within the next 15 years?

So for the foreseeable future, the US astronaut program depends on the Russians for their flights.

Most of it. But it’s just a learning phase for the Chinese. They’ll buy what they can and put money towards S&D for the rest. One day they’ll use their own stuff.

All of their high tech has come from Russia & the US.

China hasn’t, as of yet, developed any major high tech.

Throughout history, all nations have been stealing from other nations. Just look at Europe… the wheel wasn’t invented there… neither was the gunpowder. The US stole a lot of European know-how.

China hasn’t, as of yet, developed any major high tech.

You are correct.
Just think of Japan in the 1950’s for proof. Started off with ‘borrowed’ USA technology and ended up with much better ’stuff’ than the USA. Making stuff be better requires innovation. The original idea may not be theirs, but the way to do it right certainly is. And in the end, ideas are nice only if you can follow through.

The Chinese are hungry for success and pride… Just think of the US space program in the 60s… it’s amazing what kind of achievements you can make when you’ve got goals and a population who wants to achieve them…

Oh my God! I am so happy that finally China has finished their space walk!We can finally move on to another level. Even if they are 30 years behind from the Russia’s first space walk, I still am very happy that they have done it. I don’t know why everyone is so mean about china’s first modern discovery. I mean, you should be proud! Man, you guys are so negative, well that would be some of you guys. But I still am angry that the US is having the war, they don’t have to wait, they could move on their space stuff. I mean look at Russia, They are so ahead from all the countries. It’s just amazing how they are always the first people to do something new!
