Well, other than saying Carters abject failure as a president with regard to Iran was “perceived,” they got the history right.

  2. RTaylor says:

Since WWII Arabian Gulf oil has been considered a strategic asset. The orders were to keep it flowing at all costs. The problem was the politicians that never had a clue about another culture. They threw money at it, and backed whoever would take it. Eventually Saudi Arabia will succumb to civil war. Pakistan and India are near war today, which will be a jihad, igniting conflicts across the region. What do you think that will do to the markets? Obama must be insane to want this mess.

Well. Now there’s a devastating rebuttal to each and every point made by Sherman and Mr. Peabody. Not much I can say about that.

    >>Especially when liberals control universities >>and their history departments.

Funny how that works, isn’t it? All the smart people turn out to be liberals. You think maybe there’s something to that?

Who said they were smart? Haven’t you heard the saying, “Those who know do, those that don’t, teach?”

So. You’re saying all teachers are stupid, incompetent bunglers? Huh. Interesting point of view. You must be one a them thar homeschooled folks.

And what exactly does a historian “do”, other than teach? Re-write history? Those job slots are already filled by the right wingnut neocons.

  12. bobbo says:

#10–bb==do you know who first said that saying? What do you bet it was some dipshit failure who couldn’t get tenure and so he became a right wing pundit instead?

Oh, yes, its true!!!!!!!! Jealous little nest foulers those pundits.

  13. ECA says:

If OUR gov would give us TRUTH, over LIES and the secret act that HOLDS these documents for 20+ years, WE MIGHT start believing in OUR GOVERNMENT..

Our Gov, acts like a 2 year old, CAUGHT doing something BAD…”I DIDNT DO IT”, “What did I DO??”…

And WHY do they have a SECRETS act, to place Congress/rep VOTES in a safe for 20+ years??
Statute of LIMITATIONS.. And most of them will be DEAD by the time the people FIND OUT, “Who did WHAT, to WHOM.”

  14. Brian says:

Listen to the fucking moronic right-wing dipshits come running ‘liberal bias! hooey!’

Look, clowns, what was said is factually correct, and the united states has a long history of installing governments that promise to be friendly to us, then, when they stop playing ball, we try to overthrow them.

Get your fucking fingers out of your ears, read a book, learn some history, and stop your fucking whining.

  19. roger dodger says:

This blog would be a lot better if people used facts to back up their positions.
I think everything in the clip is accurate historically, but there are other facts to think about…for example Kennedy sold weapons to Abdul Salam Arif in Iraq in 1963.

Its funny how so many people think that a political party is a good thing…like they should be proud to be associate with being democrat or republican…and that they should think everything that the other party does is completely wrong. That’s the sort of mentality that leads to really stupid decisions. In fact, if you took that mentality and sprinkled in eternal life and the story of creation, you would have a dangerous situation. Oh…wait. Damn.

President Bush is to true “born again” people as, say, Bjork is to Lynyrd Skynyrd. Hope that was clear. What I mean to say is, he’s a flyweight-wannabee-pretender-poser. My 2 cents.

  22. Les says:

Interesting perspective, but politics aside, thats some funny stuff!

  23. bobbo says:

Or–its ONLY funny because of the politics. Political humor is like that==or were you laughing at the talking dog?

  24. Glenn E. says:

And most US Presidents went to Harvard, both Democrat and Republican. As did the writers of cartoons series like the Simpsons. As well as the infamous Unibomber Ted Kaczynski, and UFO abduction fanatic Prof. John E. Mack. Hmmmm… maybe college has simply got nothing to do with any damn thing these nutballs do. It’s more likely they were adversely influenced by their grade school classes, than college. But we don’t want to go there, do we? Because the government controls the curriculum there.

BTW, about this cartoon, I had to keep from splitting my sides when they mentioned Donald Rumsfeld. And it jived with a lot of what I already knew. We were real cozy with Iran at once time. We had Iranian military junior officers training at Lackland Texas (in 1975) while I was there. Part of the Army’s “School of the Americas” training program? Some years later, the Iran hostage thing happened.

No surprise. I fully expected the wing nut crowd to contemptuously dismiss it. And they did.

    Bobbo,

I understand you thoughts on Carter. There are two ways of looking at it though. Either he was weak or he kept us out of nuclear war. Who knows what would have happened with an aged, paranoid Soviet leadership if Carter had of gotten tough with Iran.

Since we don’t know what would have happened if he took the other course he will always be judged narrowly by the Reaganites and those ultimately responsible for the mess and more kindly by peace loving people.

  27. Grayven says:

There are intelligent reasons for being conservative. Believing in fiscal responsibility, free markets, national defense that makes you safer, or limited government are among the good reasons to be a conservative.

The republican party has delivered zero to the intelligent conservative for the past several decades. The vastly expanding debt of our country and the expanded powers of government in the last few years are examples of the parties betrayal of conservative values.

I think what you are seeing with conservatives right now is cognitive dissonance (look this up if you don’t know what it is). They have put years of effort in support of a party that in no way supports them, and it would be mental anguish to admit they have been betrayed. Admitting the betrayal would also leave them with NO major party to align with at this time.

While the Democratic party is definately the wrong road to follow, at least for a conservative, there is no good second option. We have been a nation without a conservative party for a very long time. We will be a nation without a conservative party until conservatives are willing to admit they’ve been duped.

  28. Chris says:

I’m late to this party, but I have two items:

The correct quote is “He who can, does. He who cannot, teaches.” The author is George Bernard Shaw, “Man and Superman” act IV.

Second item, anyone know where the video presently is? It appears to have been removed and I was only able to see half of it due to a flakey wi-fi connection on the road 🙁

    Chris
