The republican party has delivered zero to the intelligent conservative for the past several decades. The vastly expanding debt of our country and the expanded powers of government in the last few years are examples of the parties betrayal of conservative values.

I think what you are seeing with conservatives right now is cognitive dissonance (look this up if you don’t know what it is). They have put years of effort in support of a party that in no way supports them, and it would be mental anguish to admit they have been betrayed. Admitting the betrayal would also leave them with NO major party to align with at this time.

While the Democratic party is definately the wrong road to follow, at least for a conservative, there is no good second option. We have been a nation without a conservative party for a very long time. We will be a nation without a conservative party until conservatives are willing to admit they’ve been duped.

I understand you thoughts on Carter. There are two ways of looking at it though. Either he was weak or he kept us out of nuclear war. Who knows what would have happened with an aged, paranoid Soviet leadership if Carter had of gotten tough with Iran.

Since we don’t know what would have happened if he took the other course he will always be judged narrowly by the Reaganites and those ultimately responsible for the mess and more kindly by peace loving people.

And most US Presidents went to Harvard, both Democrat and Republican. As did the writers of cartoons series like the Simpsons. As well as the infamous Unibomber Ted Kaczynski, and UFO abduction fanatic Prof. John E. Mack. Hmmmm… maybe college has simply got nothing to do with any damn thing these nutballs do. It’s more likely they were adversely influenced by their grade school classes, than college. But we don’t want to go there, do we? Because the government controls the curriculum there.

BTW, about this cartoon, I had to keep from splitting my sides when they mentioned Donald Rumsfeld. And it jived with a lot of what I already knew. We were real cozy with Iran at once time. We had Iranian military junior officers training at Lackland Texas (in 1975) while I was there. Part of the Army’s “School of the Americas” training program? Some years later, the Iran hostage thing happened.

#20 I’ve never understood that “defense at all cost” of a political party, as if they were defending their football or baseball team. macfans are even harder still to comprehend.

Its funny how so many people think that a political party is a good thing…like they should be proud to be associate with being democrat or republican…and that they should think everything that the other party does is completely wrong. That’s the sort of mentality that leads to really stupid decisions. In fact, if you took that mentality and sprinkled in eternal life and the story of creation, you would have a dangerous situation. Oh…wait. Damn.
