China Restaurant Uses Saddam Hussein’s Image To Promote Chicken Wings

A restaurant in China is using the image of former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein to promote its spicy chicken wings.

The Passion Barbecue Chicken Wings, in Shenyang, says its seasonings are a challenge for customers, just like Saddam was to the US and UK….

A restaurant spokeswoman told the Liao Shen Evening Post: “Saddam loved challenges, and eating our spicy chicken wings also requires courage, so it’s a good match.”

Okee-dokee.

Well… let’s just leave it at that and back away slowly.

Found this post via topix.com blog aggregator. I’m currently residing in Harbin, China. Only a few hours away from Shenyang, we also have a home-grown chain called “Crazy Chicken Wings” that uses the exact same Sadaam image. IMHO, the use of sadaam’s image next to the word “crazy” is much more accurate.

Also, “passion” isn’t such a great translation for 激情. Something more along the lines of ‘fervor’ would be much more accurate.

I’ll bet dem’ chicken wings are REALLY SPICY, CRAZY SPICY!!

Oh, and Bagdad Bob moved to the United Arab Emirates and left public life.
