Hackers create Zombies Ahead highway signs – Houston Chronicle

Apparent slacker hackers with time to kill brought a raised eyebrow or two to the faces of motorists at a busy Austin intersection.

Electronic signs intended to warn motorists of construction near the intersection of Lamar and Martin Luther King boulevards were changed Wednesday to warn of “Zombies Ahead Run for your lives”

The two signs are about a half mile west of the University of Texas campus.

According to the article, they got physical access and used the default password. Manufacturer recommended cities to change the password and pad lock the door on the control panel. No more hackerish than rearranging letters on a church sign.

Actually. This doesn’t tell you how to “hack the password”. It just tells you what the manufacturer default password is…

  13. Olo Baggins of Bywater says:

Of all the things they could have done with that sign, at least this one is funny.

It would have been mean to put something that would mislead drivers.
