A Saudi Arabian court has sentenced a 75-year-old Syrian woman to 40 lashes, four months imprisonment and deportation from the kingdom for having two unrelated men in her house.

According to the Saudi daily newspaper Al-Watan, troubles for the woman, Khamisa Mohammed Sawadi, began last year when a member of the religious police entered her house in the city of Al-Chamli and found her with two unrelated men, “Fahd” and “Hadian.”

Fahd told the policeman that he had the right to be there, because Sawadi had breast-fed him as a baby and was therefore considered to be a son to her in Islam, according to Al-Watan. Fahd, 24, added that his friend Hadian was escorting him as he delivered bread for the elderly woman. The policeman then arrested both men…

The Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice, feared by many Saudis, is made up of several thousand religious policemen charged with duties such as enforcing dress codes, prayer times and segregation of the sexes. Under Saudi law, women face many restrictions, including a strict dress code and a ban on driving. Women also need to have a man’s permission to travel…

The problem recurs with theocracies. This is their preferred method of ruling the superstitious and ignorant.

I can’t decide if Alfred1 is a bad troll or just exceeding moranic.

Or neither…but decision making requires a brain larger than what is commonly found in a pin head…

Also decisions require a broad mind…to see all the facts…not one so narrow you can look through a key hole with both eyes…

    @Alfred1

Don’t be so hard on yourself. I am sure your problem can be managed with anti-psychotic medication.

  3. bobbo says:

#20–Alfred==well done, thank you. On point, consistent with what you posted. Not “proven” of course, but close enough. Not like Paddy-O-Zero at all.

Onward to John for my appropriate penance.

It’s inverted and inserted. He pulls the UFOs and Matrix and bible interpretations straight out of his ass.

Sorry. I don’t like myself much when I get this way. Well, on my side of the world, it’s nearly midnight. I think I’ll fix myself a lovely non-Islamic beverage, read some very non-biblical literature and then sleep. I suspect by morning, Alfie will have posted much foolishness. I truly wonder if he’s a true believer or just an ugly green troll.

    Good night.

Looks to me that putting up the Mel Brooks clip is just meant to mock God’s “laws” in general, regardless of denomination. A lot of Brooks’ movies have been kinda ‘eh’ to me, but I think I’ll rent that one to see if their are any more gems in it. Self-deprecating Jewish humor is some of the finest on the planet. I’m from a WASP background and to me the Christian religion is an unfortunate embarrassment at best (the music and the architecture excepted, of course)

As far as other cultures are concerned, it’s a good idea to try to put yourself in their place: (thought balloon) “Those westerners constantly make fun of themselves and others…and their leaders…and even their Gods, too! How horrible!”

But hey, they’re perfectly intelligent people on average just like us, but they had to go from a nomadic existence to being controllers of the world’s energy in 80 years or so. Pretty steep and narrow learning curve there, I’d say.

You think 40 lashes to an old woman is bad? In “civilized” atheistic Canada it is actually legal to stick knives in and kill a child just moments before birth.

The Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building bombing in Oklahoma City was the biggest act of terrorism before 9/11. And by your Saudi/9-11 “reasoning” that says what about Americans?

“Naturally, Bush invades Iraq” because Iraq invaded one of its strategic allies, Kuwait. Or did you conveniently forget about that?

Now tell me what Obama’s “most important business buddies” are doing to their citizens:
    US Trade:
    China: $345.45 Billion
    Saudi Arabia: $59.32 Billion

You see how you can be so wrong even without a bible?

16 Rob. Are you talking about the Scottish who wear dresses that makes men act all bitchy towards women ? Or the Americans who think they are so cool in male sarongs? http://tinyurl.com/59og84

So there really is more oil out there!

Bored Duck, I think you hit the nail on the head. No matter how much we want, we cannot expect a medieval culture to join the 21st century in 80 years. Perhaps in another 100 or so?

What does this say about the war on terrorism?

  14. Dave W says:

I’ve advocated using neutron bombs on the Entire Middle East for about 20 years now. The more I hear/read about the region the more convinced I am that it is a moral imperative that the population there be eliminated. It just might give the rest of the world a chance to survive.

“What does this say about war on terrorism?”

I dunno. Let’s listen to Dear Leader Obama:

“President Obama declared yesterday that combat operations in Iraq will end in 18 months.”
“…help lay a foundation for lasting peace and security.”
“…to develop a country “that is sovereign, stable, and self-reliant.”"

Cripes, that sounds as bad as some of the evil acts described in the mythology from your own religion, except that in those tales, the evil was portrayed as righteous acts of obedience to a Creator who ordered the slaughters. If you’re going to link your own morality to that of the deity you worship, you better get used to being covered in mud. In the end, the nail in the coffin of religion will prove to be the printing press and internet, which enable those of us with a remaining modicum of objectivity to see just how evil and bloody your deity’s history is.

  20. RBG says:

Except what I write is no myth. Use your “objectivity” to get your head around that.
