A Fox News video clip posted on the Internet YouTube site suggesting Canadian soldiers are weak and effeminate has raised ire among Canadians.

The 5-minute clip was from a recent broadcast of the “Red Eye with Greg Gutfeld” panel show on the conservative U.S. network, Sun Media reported from Ottawa. It was in response to a Canadian general’s remark that his troops would need a year off after their combat role in the NATO mission in Afghanistan ends in 2011.

Gutfeld reported the plan with a sneer, the video shows.

“The Canadian military wants to take a breather to do some yoga, paint landscapes, run on the beach in gorgeous white capri pants,” Gutfeld said.

The segment was posted by an unidentified Canadian who titled it “How to Lose Friends and Alienate Countries,” while conservative Ottawa commentator Geoff Norquay called it “insulting and beneath contempt.” the Sun report said.

Monday, the bodies of four Canadians killed in Afghanistan Friday were flown home. Canada has lost 116 soldiers since the NATO mission began in 2002.

American nutballs think all other conservatives don’t come down to their lack of standards.

“If anything we should pour scorn on the French for not fighting on our side, yet enjoying the security we provide with NATO. I thought that whole “Freedom Fries” thing was a disgrace, Bush should have sent a few bombs raining on Paris to show who’s boss.. and forced the French to join the war alongside us.”

What hell are talking about. The French are fighting and dying in Afghanistan.

You know, if watch enough US TV, read US websites and blogs, or listen to US radio, you will find something to offend everyone. How does one asshat saying something stupid become “The US hates Canada”?

    Mountain, meet molehill.

Now that being said, some U.S. friends of mine just came back from a month in the Canadian Rockies and told me that they get the distinct feeling that Canada is about to bolt from Afghanistan.

  4. QB says:

I’m thinking bobbo writes for this show. 😉

Seriously, if they wanted to be funny they would hire Canadian writers like every other American show that has decent ratings.

I’d just like to go on record saying that I would bury a bone in Monica Crowley’s backyard – so to speak.

  7. americanjoe says:

There is nothing funny about insulting soldiers, Canadian or American, who put their lives on the line for you. Anyone who trivializes or brands this as a partisan issue does a disservice to their military, their country, and the ideals they stand for. It is even more reprehensible to mock these soldiers hours after four of their comrades died due to an IED on the battle field. I am greatly saddened that more conservative have not come out to denounce Fox for such actions. It only debases all of us conservatives

Such remarks were not acceptable by liberals under the Bush administration and they are not acceptable by conservatives under the Obama administration.

Pedro and PMitchell, you should be ashamed of yourselves.

  8. QB says:

This is a little closer to reality. I know Americans feel exactly the same way about their young soldiers who’ve come home from war in a coffin.

I also know that most Canadians and Americans think of each other as friends and allies and this boring, predictable show isn’t going to change that.

FEELINGS, whoa, whoa, whoa, feelings, feelings like I have never had before, yea, feelings.

Makes me want to cry I am so full of patriotic fever and self righteous good killing.

Who we going to invade and occupy next?

No. If you’ve fought in wars or have family fighting there and dying this isn’t a subject to be joking about. These are men, kids, daughters. If you think it’s a joke go get yourself kill right now and see how funny it is. Putting your life on the line for something you believe in and want to help is not a joke.

ahhh Canada where curling is a sport and hockey a lifestyle
“A Canadian once bit my sister” and “Mynd you, Canadian bites kan be pretty nastï”.

Any country that can conceive, produce and market the Coffee Crisp bar is fine by me. Now how about selling them in the US put a maple leaf on the wrapper to increase public awareness of Canada’s goodness.

I was last in Canuck Country last July when no one in the US was laughing of the strength of the loony. At that time none of the Canadians I spoke with believed we would/could elect Obama. I assured them his chances were as good as any ones and not to think the right wing bias Rupert Murdoch/Mark Mays media outlets really represented the majority of those who would vote US. Please remember these late night Fox fools don’t represent the majority of us.

  13. bobbo says:

#49–QB–ha, ha. Yes, balance in all things. Not too insulting, not too patriotic – – or the average of both?

Rather than honoring our dead, we should spend time thinking about why they died and how to avoid it. Is that what your post did?

    Then why not criticize it?

  14. cddewana says:

  15. GF says:

Hopefully Detroit won’t win any major sporting event in 2011. The burning cars would scare the Canucks into thinking we’re about to invade. I really wouldn’t want to upset their fragile souls. 😉

  16. mr. show says:

I watch FoxNews (OH noes it’s true) and imho “Red Eye” is tabloid tripe. I think it has something to do with Gutfield’s perma-scowl and the attitude of the other snarky jerks on the show. And I agree…there’s a reason why it’s on so late. Anyway, there are shows more worthy of your time…

I goof on Canada (it’s easy when you have Canadian friends with a good sense of humor) but I’ll back up their military as a tough bunch. If not for bravery of Canadian forces, the D-Day invasion of WWII would have gone much differently. Their sacrifice and the sacrifice of our men and women should not be used for political purposes or comedic purposes. Make fun of the idiot political “leaders” but the soldiers…

  17. The Warden says:

Agian, resident libtard Eideard takes issue with a commentator’s critique (right or wrong) of Canada’s military. Where is Eideard when Queef Ogreman makes his leftist rants towards things he dislikes? Oh, but that’s ok because it’s not fox news and Ogreman’s rants are in line with what Eideard believes. Dvorak should be smart and give Eideard his pink slip.

    # 29 Santa Maria said, on March 23rd, 2009 at 1:07 pm Canada does ride off on the security halo created by the proximity to us. Imagine if Canada were to wake up suddenly tomorrow and plate tectonics put it in Waziristan? They’d be target practice for the Taleban..

However, they don’t deserve our scorn. They are fighting on our side at least.

If anything we should pour scorn on the French for not fighting on our side, yet enjoying the security we provide with NATO. I thought that whole “Freedom Fries” thing was a disgrace, Bush should have sent a few bombs raining on Paris to show who’s boss.. and forced the French to join the war alongside us.

    Reply:

Keep in mind, when speaking on reliance of one country on another, that the US, relies on Canada’s super rich resource base and will continue to do so, until they no longer need fossil fuels and other natural resources such as water. Imagine, how thirsty one day you may be?!

A real world history and current events lesson would do the US public a world of good. Just don’t rely on the U.S media for information, because they wouldn’t know news if it bit them in the ass!

  19. Blues says:

The real tragedy here is the fact that Canada will look after its’ vets and the US won’t.

  20. fpp2002 says:

#54- you are right about Canadian soldiers in WWII, and their contribution to the war, which is significant (as it was for WWI), but it’s usually overshadowed by stories of the Americans (or the British, or the Soviets). Montgomery was quite impressed by the Canadians, and the Germans were scared of them, because they were known as particularly fierce, brave and resilient soldiers.

  21. bobbo says:

Both sides to any conflict all proud of the courage, strength, fierceness, and resiliency of their dead young men.

    Patriotism – a fools dream.

Once a century a good war needs to be fought, but the sentiment on both sides remains the same.

AFTER your feelings subside, THINK about it. Your residue should be not be pride, it should be ANGER!!!

  23. RicoSauve says:

Having someone tell you ‘it’s only a joke’ coming from a country that has destroyed people’s lives for making jokes, well that looses a lot of power in that statement. Because you have a freedom to say whatever you want, you also have the responsibility to face the consequences of those words.

Anyone remember the War of 1812?

There was this war that the US lost outright… It was about 200 years ago… Who won that again? Oh, yeah! It was CANADA!! Interesting…

  26. rus62 says:

You guys take this too seriously. Canada and the U.S. work extensively and also train together in the military. I have met many Canadians (or Candadiens) that have told me so and even Americans.

Fox may be in Canada but all the hotels I go to don’t have it when I visit. So don’t make anyone think they are swamping the airwaves (cable) there because they are not.

You are showing a clip of Red Eye which comes on after everyone goes to bed and some of the guests on it are liberal and some are not. If Red Eye is all you have on Fox then you might as well be looking for WMDs in Iraq.

    Get a Life.

  27. Luc says:

As a foreign observer, I see many nasty jokes and slurs uttered by Americans about the Canadians in movies, TV shows and I always wonder what is this beef that the US has against Canada. Why are Americans such assholes with their neighbors so often?

  28. bobbo says:

#64–Luc==what rich powerful country does not despise their poorer not as powerful countries on their borders?

    Name one.

  29. Skippy says:

#64, I think privately Americans are jealous of Canada in a lot of ways…

Also, Canadians tend to have a much better sense of humour about ourselves. You insult the prime minister, and we laugh and say, “Yeah, what an idiot!” You insult the president of the US, and them’s fightin’ words to many Americans. We don’t idolize our leader to such a degree as Americans.
