Guys like this will be the next target. Then fishing itself will be attacked by these idiots.

Local News | Peta vs. Pike Place fish-throwers | Seattle Times Newspaper — What is wrong with these people? We first discussed this here.

In an odd dispute between animal-rights activists and — of all people — veterinarians, “It’s “gloves off,” says PETA president and co-founder Ingrid Newkirk. Members of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals plan to protest a fish-throwing demonstration from the employees of Pike Place Fish at the opening ceremony of The American Veterinary Medical Association’s annual convention, to be held July 11-14 in Seattle.

Here are the basics: PETA objected to the use of “their corpses used as toys” in a statement about the fish, and offered to send rubber replacements to the convention. Newkirk says PETA will “identify every vet who participates and carry the objection back to his/her hometown practice.”

This whole thing is beginning to sound like an extortion scheme.

  1. Jo Do says:

How about we get a class action restraining order on them as what they are doing is not protest, it’s harassment.

  2. Cap'nKangaroo says:

I believe the real reason for their protests is the publicity. The more wacko, the more publicity. Which they then leverage into greater fund raising from their fringe supporters.

  3. sea lawyer says:

They obviously have the morally superior position that an animal corpse, which is just inanimate matter at that point, is worth so much time in protest. How much actual life is destryed to sustain their vegan diets, and how many animals are killed through the agricultural process (poor little gophers don’t stand a chance against a combine)? Life feeds on life. That is a fact of reality for anything not filled with chloroplasts.

I was always amused how indignant these clowns get over the exploitation of animals, and then a deputy direct of PETA was a diabetic who was reliant on animal derived insulin.

  4. I got news for ya, JD. PETA is already attacking fishing and hunting. They’ve been at it for some time.

  5. Mac Guy says:

    Three words:

    Shut up, hippies.

  6. bill says:

Ever been to a slaughter house? Killed something and eaten it?
Or eaten something that has been killed buy some one else?

    PETA will get you!

  7. deowll says:

PETA are terrorist. Why _some_ liberals seem to want to target vets and not these creeps escapes me unless there is some overlap in the organizations?

  8. Nimby says:

Of course, it’s extortion. And I just don’t understand why they have to resort to this. Can’t they just go back to having supermodels and actresses take their clothes off in protest? I pledge, here and now, to eat a huge slab of roast beef for every naked supermodel they have pose…

  9. AdmFubar says:

being in the food business, i’ve seen video of the fish tossers, and knowning about safe food handling i keep wanting to know how the fish tossers are allowed to do this..
    it is kinda scary

  10. Zybch says:

I’d have thought these wackos would have shut their yapping noise-holes after Bea “I’m not a man, really” Arthur snuffed it.

  11. KD Martin says:

Hop and I are going fishin’. Even though we practice catch and release of those 12 lb. black bass lunkers, I’m going to make certain I get pictures of a good one for the blog just to protest against PETA. Jerks.

    Oh, and I’m with Nimby.

  12. brendal says:

I know! Let’s ask Barack Obama’s Dead Fly! He’s got his own FB page!

  13. If the throwing of the fish glorifies the practice, then throwing fake fish does nothing to abort this. It is not the throwing the bodies but the ritual itself, if we are to believe their logic that -throwing the fish- glorifies the act of killing/slaughtering fish. Thus their offer to provide replacement fish is a hypocritical gesture that only proves the illogical nature of their original statement and their stance on the subject in general. I agree this sounds more like extortion, but such groups are based firmly in these intimidation tactics due in large part to the inability to fully and truly rationalize their rationale, even to themselves. If their arguments were worth more or had proper merit, then such ploys would not be needed. As it stands, they are no better than the thugs that run our government… but at least those thugs have more of a popular mandate than these idiots.

  14. jim says:

    Nice catch.

  15. Chris Mac says:

vrod wishin he’d never painted his walls green

  16. Ah_Yea says:

I’ve got one for you, think about this quote very, very carefully.

“PETA objected to the use of ‘their corpses used as toys’”.

Hey! I’ve got some leather shoes, what if I started a “toss your leather shoe day!”

How about a “throw your purse/wallet in the air day?”

“Everyone with a rabbits foot will be thrown in jail day?”

  17. sac says:

    I’m thinking this through,

    Which do I prefer,

    Alphie – PETA,

    PETA – Alphie,

    OK, PETA won

  18. RTaylor says:

PETA has stated they go to extremes, hoping for a moderate compromise on certain issues, much like our government.

  19. Thinker says:

    RTaylor,
Uh huh, and like our government, if you believe that PETA will stop at that aim then I have some really pristine swamp land and a bridge I’d like to offer.

I really liked Osyris Diamonds (#18) argument. PETA needs to take time to think their arguments through instead of going for the quick kill to accomplish their aims. It turns off regular folks like myself, and it can have the effect of painting them more radical than they might be. (Though in PETA’s case I don’t know if thats possible)

Moderators…a blogger is impersonating me…posting under my name offensive material…I demand he be banned…immediately.
