Better days

Pop star Michael Jackson dead: report – washingtonpost.com — FYI. An odd tragic figure.

Pop giant Michael Jackson, who took to the stage as a child star and went on to set the world dancing to the thumping rhythms of his music for decades, died Thursday, TMZ website reported. He was 50.

“We’ve just learned Michael Jackson has died,” TMZ said.

“Michael suffered a cardiac arrest earlier this afternoon and paramedics were unable to revive him. We’re told when paramedics arrived Jackson had no pulse and they never got a pulse back,” the entertainment site said.

There was no official confirmation of the reported death and spokespersons for Jackson could not be reached for comment.

#58 – Mr. Fusion – Accuse him of what you will, but he was still found not guilty after a fair trial…

    Money talks.

  3. Olo Baggins of Bywater says:

GregA, at #50 that’s what I wanted to say but you did it well. I agree he was one of the greatest singers of all time. At nine years old, the early peak of his fame, he still blows away all of the crappy pop stars of the last couple decades.

But he was also one f-ed up dude who straddled the line between freakazoid and absolute genius.

  4. nospam says:

who is the happiest man alive tonight?

    Governor Mark Stanford!

  5. John E. Quantum says:

Thomas Bacon said “anyone who likes young boys and tobacco” can’t be all bad, but Michael Jackson didn’t smoke.

Truly awesome talent as a singer, songwriter, performer and businessman.

Couldn’t conquer his demons- maybe they won.

  6. Dallas says:

#60.. Dude, Madonna is still hugely popular.

She may not be your kind of performer but she is not after the Lawrence Welk crowd. She rocks.

  7. Here's Johnny says:

Mr. Fusion- “found not guilty after a fair trial of some goldbrick trying to extort money from him.”

LOL, yes your naivete is amusing.

  8. Roger says:

Just goes to show you, 12 people may find you not guilty, but someone else didn’t agree….

  9. faxon says:

I felt sorrier for him when he was alive.

I love all the reporters talking about how he died from cardiac arrest. Dumbasses, everyone dies of cardiac arrest. “cardiac = heart , “arrest” = stopped. Duh…. This child molesting mother-fucker died from too many fucking pain pills washed down with some “jesus” juice.

“A very talented person why was seriously fucked up. I’ll bet they find out he killed himself.”

Someone on TV said he was 5′ 10″ (1,78m) tall and weighed 110 pounds (50kg) and he had been practicing and rehearsing six hours a day. So it may not have been intentional, but he definitely could have.

  17. Noel says:

I’m entirely willing to give Michael Jackson the benefit of the doubt, a grand jury did. I really will miss his music. I was looking forward to the new dance he was talking about using in his London shows. This whole thing has gotten me down a bit more than I would have expected.

  18. amodedoma says:

I remember little Michael of the Jackson 5, the cartoons, anybody else cut the 45 record of ‘ABC’ of the back of the box of alphabits cereal. The thriller album helped to build a music video industry and was a great boost to MTV. I don’t know anymore about his personal life than any of you titheads. What I do know is that none of you would stand the scrutiny his life has had. Bunch of freaks hiding behind artificial identities spouting crap like little shit geysers. Show some respect, when you’re dead nobody’s gonna remember you to pick your life apart.

In less than a thousand years no one will remember him.

Or you, me or pretty near anyone else.

They MIGHT remember Elvis, possibly the Beatles. But unless the person with this knowledge is a historian or a trivia freak, no one on the street would remember.

How many people could you get off the street now that could easily name a greek epic poet?

You might get lucky and have one name Homer. But most will have no idea.

To think the best baker in Rome that everyone said he is famous and everyone buys his stuff and knows him, is forgotten. The same with the best sword in Persia, the best craftsman in Greece, the best stonecutter in Egypt. Who remembers? No one really. It doesn’t matter.

In 10k years no one will care about our own dynasty. Its not what was or what will be that matters. Its here and now that counts.

Well DUH! Of course everything will be forgotten sooner or later. But MJ had a lifelong career, and will be remembered for generations. In the last 20 years I’ve seen plenty of pop stars come and go. None of those will be remembered even 10 years hence.
Does it really matter? Probrably not, in the grand scheme of things. But a lot of lives have been colored by pop culture. Nobody gets to take advantage of their own legacy(unless they can fake their death somehow). But we all got something from him, and probrably more than we deserve.
