Huffington Post – 7-6-09:

Even Fox News has started to turn on Sarah Palin. In the midst of a segment about the Alaska Governor’s battle against “liberal” attacks, Liz Trotta went off-message.

Frankly, “the woman is inarticulate, undereducated,” Trotta said, arguing that for once liberal criticism was “well-deserved.”

“I think all the liberal stylists … really have a case. She just begs for adjectives like flaky and wacky.” When pressed, she added, “We’re talking about somebody who, right from the get-go, has been a flashy person who gets into a lot of trouble and really has no credentials for any job.”

My favorite Palin slam from the video:

What do you think William F. Buckley would have thought about her as the standard bearer of the conservative party?

God, remember the good old days when conservatives found value in intelligence, reasoned discourse, and education?! If you think about it, Buckley’s party doesn’t even exist anymore.

One thing I’ve noticed, as the Republican party shrinks itself so it can fit into a pup tent, is attacks on intellectualism and reason. The popularity of Ms. Palin and Joe (the Plumber) are indicative of this.
This purge reminds me of the Communist revolution in China (and Cambodia with the Khmer Rouge)- except now the thinkers aren’t sent to work the rice paddies, but derided as RINOs. The exile of the ‘non-believers’. And anyone to the left of the true believers is a liberal, whether or not that’s accurate.
The price paid by China was years of lost growth. It looks like Republicans are condemned to repeat that. To echo #23, there are voices that should be paid heed, but they are currently drowned out.

I just don’t get the obsession and hatred people have for this woman. I don’t mind the criticism of her political positions, but the personal attacks on her and her family are just shameful.

Hatred comes from fear, what’s there to fear from her?

The obsession comes from the fact that she’s a retard way out of her league. The bat-shit crazy stuff she says is great entertainment.

I’ve never met a single person who hated Sarah, so I cannot answer that one.

Hatred comes from fear, what’s there to fear from her?

A lot of people were scared shitless that she was going to have her finger on the button. But that was nothing to do with hate. Just a rational response to an irrational situation.

If by “the Left” you mean 80% of the American people, no, we hope to GAWD she runs! Look what a great job she did last time. And in Alaska.

Man, you people are beyond delusional. Keep it up. You’ll never see the White House or Congress in Republican hands again. You had your chance and you BLEW it.

  15. SN says:

    76. “your reaction to this woman is irrational

My reaction to this woman is irrational? What is my reaction? I find her bat-shit-crazy ways to be “great entertainment.”

First lets determine whether she is bat-shit-crazy. Here’s the latest bat-shit-crazy thing she said. She now claims that she resigned from office because she was a lame duck. She did not want to “milk” that status. She said most politicians “say it’s a paycheck, it’s a paycheck and I get to travel around. No, that’s politics as usual.”

Let’s think about that. From what I’ve read, Palin’s reelection as governor was a lock. So under what bizarre “Palin logic” did she consider herself a “lame duck”?

Lame duck generally means “an elected official or group continuing to hold political office during the period between the election and the inauguration of a successor.” It’s usually applied to presidents who are finishing their second terms, because they are unable to run for a third term. To put it another way, a lame duck is a politician without any power because someone new will soon be taking over.

But in Palin’s situation no one else was taking over. She had 18 months left on her term plus she was the front runner for the next term. So how was she a lame duck? I haven’t a clue.

Apparently, under Palin’s bizarre world view, the first day a politician is sworn into office, he or she immediately becomes a lame duck. And also apparently, the proper thing to do in that circumstance is to resign from office the second day.

To Palin, the point of governance is not the hum-drum day-to-day act of being a public servant, making decisions and helping real people. Nope, the point of governance is being elected and nothing else. All that other stuff from the time of being sworn in and resigning the next day is a pure waste of time.

And it should be noted, that Palin’s selfish act in refusing to take a lame duck salary for the next 18 months is pure nonsense. Someone will have to take over for her. That someone will be paid. So regardless of Palin’s action, the money will be spent. Her action does not save the citizens of Alaska any money.

So yes, when she claims to be a lame duck when she clearly is not a lame duck, that’s bat-shit-crazy.

So the next step is determining whether such bat-shit-crazy behavior is “great entertainment.” To me it is.

I’ll admit that entertainment is subjective. Some people love the Beatles. Some people love Brittany Spears. So I’m certainly not saying that you have to find Palin’s bat-shit-crazy behavior entertaining, but I sure in frick do.

So now we can finally address your assertion that my reaction to this bat-shit-crazy lady is somehow irrational. I simply do not see it. She is bat-shit-crazy. Her unintentionally bat-shit-crazy shtick is highly entertaining. Therefore, it’s completely rational to be entertained by her. To argue that it’s irrational to be entertained by Palin’s bat-shit-crazy actions is like arguing it’s irrational to laugh at Elmer Fudd shooting Daffy Duck in the face. Funny is funny, there’s no denying it.

  16. Uncle Patso says:

I believe she’s quitting because the attacks are getting to her — she’s taking them personally, which is appropriate, because a lot of them are personal.

If I read that Vanity Fair article correctly, she achieved most of what she ran for governor on, and she may feel that with all the attention and attacks, she won’t be able to achieve much else during her term, so why not quit now? Or maybe it is the financial cost of fighting all the lawsuits and ethics charges.

I think her biggest fault is that she runs off at the mouth way too much, and her “Id” shows when she does. (That plus her being a quintessential right wingnut and completely unsubtle about it.)

The rest of us just laugh at you clowns, now that the reigns of power are permanently out of your hands, thank Gawd. We have no emotion invested in your stupidity & madness, just pity and amusement.
