Pretty cool concept but WAY too expensive.

    Wow you can put in a little energy and AMPLIFY it to get great results? Why not make it go 40 and have the other 10 mph go back into the battery so you only have to pedal to get going. Wait forget that even, just plug it in for 5 minutes before you leave the house. Well wait if you rode it the day before the battery is still charged, just get on and go.

    If you can amplify electricity you can split the output and use part for power and part for recharging.

    Wow, guess all those physicists have been lying to us that zero point energy is not possible. They have to be smart enough to know that this would work.

    Pullys, gears, alternators, coils, magnets, small wind turbines, there are hundreds of ways you can get something for nothing.

    And what is that principle with computers? Technology doubles every year and a half.

    Next few years, 80mph, no pedaling and self charging. Two years after that, bigger powerplant & installed in cars. Then no more fuel needed, ever for anyone.

    The point is there is only one reason we are still paying for fuel, because we will.

    Oh wait, then 5 more years they can make them smaller and all my lights in my house and my TV can be powered for free, then, oh wait…. electric bombs and electric heart attack guns, Cripes!

    The story does not say that the person generates all of the power, it says that the pedaling “helps” to charge the battery. I am assuming that you plug this in to recharge it.

    I want a hovercraft. Get me either a hybrid or pure hydrogen one and I will finally be happy.

    Why anyone still wants vehicles from the 1800′s I have no idea.

    No one obviously wants phones, homes, cooking items, clothes, music players or video equipment from the time. Unless you are Amish, then it is a step up.

    I think people want transport from that era because they have been brought up brainwashed by the oil and auto companies.

    But regardless of all that, this is an awesome product. Give it a few years for the price to come down. Christmas 2012, I’ll buy it as is. The price should be down to about 4000.00 USD (assuming the USD is still alive then) I can use the exercise, and 50 mph and a little pedal power will work out just perfectly to get around locally and get things done.

    ECA#17: you might be surprised how strong and durable quality bicycle tires can be. In my 20s, I had a very good Fuji bicycle with an Avocet speedometer. A friend (who also had a good bike) and I once found ourselves on a straight rural road, freshly paved and headed downhill for about 4 miles. We got our bicycles up to 45 MPH. It was an amazing rush. No I wouldn’t do that on a rough road.

    I have a Currie Electric bike its a pretty good machine there are certain upgrades you have to make like a second battery, better tires, a bike computer 20 bucks to keep track of mileage and speed and be preparred to change out the batteries every 9 months. It does 17 mph with both batteries for about 16 miles more than enough to get around town. Your in trouble tho if you run out of juice.
    The big problem is that the government laws limit speed without licenses ,titles and insurance to 18mph it should be 35mph or even faster.Its another set of laws to protect us from the stupid ones who will abuse the speed.

    Another law is about Pedal power and horse power.
    If you keep it under a certain HP, you are good. Except that MOST current lawn mowers have to large of an engine. They lowered the HP, in the last 10 years. The law about pedal power is a HUMAN POWERED vehicle. as long as that is there, you can do almost anything.

    Why do people always complain about pricing when things first come out? I bet the same people who whined here also whined about LCD prices at first. And now, I bet they own an LCD screen

    Umm ya…and TRY to find a CRT type TV..they stopped making them 3-5 years ago..
    THEn try to find a WIDE SCREEN CRT..

    This is a great idea. I live in Holland and I go to work in a car that costs 45,000 euro. The distance to work is 4 miles.
    Sometimes a go with my bike to work, but the weather makes me wet from the rain of sweat.
    In the future when the price goes down I’ll buy one.
    Gasoline cost are very expensive in Europe so I’d save lots of money, and be able to visite the USA

    I would ride it. Unfortunately at the top speed of 50mph, it’s limited to inner cities and suburbs. A lot of people need a little more top end to get to work. It can easily replace a small 125cc scooter of some kind, but not at that price point. Give it 10-15 years the tech will get cheaper. And I don’t mean China up the bike. I would want the bike to be road worthy, and not fall apart in a month.
