It's normal use of water. I am not taking a cold shower as the house is already cold enough in the morning as it is. You got to flush the cold water from the hot water pipes. The only way to reduce this time is to move the hot water heater closer to the shower and that is usually not feasible. The only green I am interested in saving is the kind I fold up and put in my wallet. I signed a lease for an apartment across the street from work when gas was almost $4 a gallon, I walk to work, I turn off the lights when I am not in a room, and don't have an air conditioner because it might drive up my electric bill. The AWWA “American water works association” Recommend you run the tap five minutes for drinking. A lot of dissolved solids and chemical build up occurs when you do not run your water for a while. That bottle of beer you are drinking took a lot more water to make then you are going to save by turning off the water while you brush. Thirty years in the water industry says I am right.
