Editor comment:

" if we lose the bees we are all dead, that should pretty much do it"

Why?

70% of oxygen comes from the sea and there are plenty of fish.

Yes, in a world without bees we would survive. It might be a different kind of world, we would not in fact be "all dead".

Anal retentive statement: yes but it still factually true.

Actually I am the one responsible for the bee die off. I sneak up behind them and shoot them with my liddle shot gun. 9 billion 337 million 285 thousand 362 BAM 9 billion 337 million 285 thousand 363.

This is ridiculous. The "study" consisted of a single remote handset phone, NOT a cell phone, parked beside a hive. Since when does a single test confirm anything in science? This is some of the poorest science reporting I have seen. We've been through the "cel phones cause bee die-off" thing already, in 2007, and testing confirmed that CCD was not due to electromagnetic interference from EM radiation.
I'm not "defending" anything here, but the lack of proper scientific procedure behind a so-called "study" that is being reported worldwide is really pushing my buttons.
If the cell phones are causing the die-off, what about the UHF broadcasters we used to have that pumped out 10,000 watts on the same frequency?

Sarcasm aside, I've lived and grew up here in San Diego for over 30+ years now. Back in the late 70'2 and early 80's prior to the development boom there were plenty of bees around; all sorts actually.

We use to go scouting for bumblebee hives when we were kids. There were quite many of them around parks and such. Now with buildings everywhere they're almost completely gone. I've yet to see a single bumblebee yet. But then same goes for birds as well, and the river has shrunk so animals there are dying off.

Oh well, all for the sake of progress I guess. Yay!

Cell phones kills, live with it. It kills people, it kills bees, it kills whatever we haven't found yet. It's natural for us to want and need something that isn't so good. N-A-T-U-R-A-L

Now go drive and text and be a happy camper.

When the skies are grey and
the sees are red.
When the earth is barren and
the bees are dead.
Only then you'll see that you can not eat money.

And even gold my friend as alluring as it may seem.
It doesn't mean a thing when you have no earth to sing too.
Can't you see it's just you and me!

I'm pretty sure it will take far more than loss of honey bees to discontinue the use of cellphones.

If it were up to republicans, the total evaporation of ocean waters and death of all trees may get them to act.

[Um- if we lose the bees we are all dead, that should pretty much do it - ed.]

#29--Great Man==a nice rant by George but very poorly based unlike most of his great stuff. "Save the planet====FOR THE BENEFIT OF MANKIND."

Stupid not to turn our attention/science/skills that way.

I'm sure George would agree, because he was a great man. Still had to earn a living though.

"We're so self-important. So arrogant. Everybody's going to save something now. Save the trees, save the bees, save the whales, save the snails. And the supreme arrogance? Save the planet! Are these people kidding? Save the planet? We don't even know how to take care of ourselves; we haven't learned how to care for one another. We're gonna save the fuckin' planet? . . . And, by the way, there's nothing wrong with the planet in the first place. The planet is fine. The people are fucked! Compared with the people, the planet is doin' great. It's been here over four billion years . . . The planet isn't goin' anywhere, folks. We are! We're goin' away. Pack your shit, we're goin' away. And we won't leave much of a trace. Thank God for that. Nothing left. Maybe a little Styrofoam. The planet will be here, and we'll be gone. Another failed mutation; another closed-end biological mistake."
