The swine flu pandemic could kill millions and cause anarchy in the world’s poorest nations unless £900m can be raised from rich countries to pay for vaccines and antiviral medicines, says a UN report leaked to the Observer.

The disclosure will provoke concerns that health officials will not be able to stem the growth of the worldwide H1N1 pandemic in developing countries. If the virus takes hold in the poorest nations, millions could die and the economies of fragile countries could be destroyed.

So now the UN is in the extortion business. Interesting!

  2. Dr Dodd says:

They should hit China and Saudi Arabia up for the cash. Everyone else is broke.

  3. Improbus says:

Wow, “they” REALLY are trying to scare people. So far the numbers aren’t supporting the gloom and doomers. From the reports that I have read the “swine flu” is more mild than the seasonal version. Vague warnings from the UN aren’t going to scare me.

  4. RTaylor says:

I don’t know if production can be increased in time. Certainly drug patents can be waved. I suspect this is being done anyway in many labs. Lets not bring politics into an humanitarian discussion. One thing for certain is the UN has failed. It was designed to fail because the powers that designed the charter did so to protect their sovereignty. Few would be affected if the UN was dissolved. No nation adheres unless it’s in their interest, including the US.

    Fear Mongering by The CDC

“CDC estimate that an average of 36,000 people die in the U.S. each year from seasonal flu”

    http://cdc.gov/flu/about/disease/us_flu-related_deaths.htm

    But…

According to the CDC 753 people died of the flu in 2002, a 286% increase from 2001 when only 257 died from the flu (page 16).

    http://cdc.gov/nchs/data/nvsr/nvsr52/nvsr52_13.pdf

Looks like sometimes the CDC doesn’t know the difference between the flu and pneumonia.

  6. Faxon says:

And Anarchy in the poorest nations affects me how?

  7. Todd Peterson says:

    The big UN scam:

The UN has become a bid scam operation:

    - $1500m for the bogus H1N1-virus
    - untold billions for the “global warming”-scam

  8. TheZ says:

Down here in Australia, we had huge scare-mongering during our winter-flu season.

    - One health official warned of infrastructure breakdowns. We should stock up on water, candles and food. Basically a Mad Max type scenario.

    - A Professor in Virology announced an expected 20 thousand deaths in the month of August alone. Of course nothing of the sort happened. Even Professors want their 15 mins of fame it seems.

Pregnant women and the obese were at higher risk, and there were tragic deaths..but it was far from the Armageddon that was predicted .

  9. TooManyPuppies says:

Extortion at its finest! “Die from our lab created virus or die from Squalene. Either way, we want your money!”

How about we just demolish the UN building?

  10. SparkyOne says:

    Globalized health care death panel

  11. mark says:

Not sure I see the problem here.

  12. clancys_daddy says:

Death, natures way of population control. By the way, swine flu way lower death expectancy than that of the regular flu. Also those who believe anything in the media is true on either side is an idiot, as the media never EVER has it right, if it bleeds, causes tears, shock disbelief, outrage, or mass hysteria/stupidity it leads.

  13. soundwash says:

lol..what happen, some Chicago mobsters take over the U.N.? That’s extortion if i heard it.

a cool $1.32b. -and what happens
to the money if the pandemic turns
    out to be a bust?

oh..shit..that’s it.. they want to vaccinate everyone so even if it does turn out to be a bust–

(me thinks it was a bust from the getgo)

-they can claim “looky, the vaccines saved the planet!” and run around patting themselves on the back and
drink vaccine umbrella cocktails until their tails fall off..

speaking of Chicago mobsters, isn’t obama supposed be Chairmain of the U.N Security Council on September 24th for a month?

(which is rather odd, i can’t recall i’ve seen a president do that before)

wonder if he’ll bring helicopter ben
and his merry printing press with him to save the day..?

#12. Nietzscheism, is probably the ugliest philosophical pathway for you to follow. As for the rest of you, narcissism in the face of a possible catastrophic humanitarian disaster, might hit your tweet following.

  15. chuck says:

Up here is the great white North of BC, Canada, there have been 51 cases of H1N1 and 6 (so far) deaths. In contrast, there are usually between 400 and 800 deaths per year from the ordinary “seasonal” flu.

  16. It sounds like a ransom demand to me. Pay us or we can almost guarantee that the Swine Flu will get worse.

  17. That sure sounds like a ransom demand.

  18. Ron Larson says:

Even if we “rich” countries bought everyone vaccinations, it doesn’t mean they will be used.

Look at all the stupid Muslims in sub-Sarah Africa who will refuse any vaccination because they are told it is really a secret Israeli-American plan to sterilize them because we hate Islam.

Well, I guess it will be as they say “God’s will”.

    #9 Nice Primus reference

  20. soundwash says:

    SideBar:

i feel this swine flu debacle fizzled out before it ever took off because there were nowhere near enough people believing it even existed.

-therefore the stress levels that can greatly compromise health were never induced, let alone maintained long enough to get “the fire stoaked” as it were. -save perhaps the unlucky few who have completely yielded all country over their Reality to the
    the MemeMediaStream folks.

Once you learn how to utilize the power of intent and belief, you see and understand things in a very different way.
