My apologies sir and the best for your mother. I made the mistake of assuming she was in a coma. I was wrong and sincerely apologize for any appearance of disrespect. Your reply is a model of civility."

Thanks and it was okay since I didn't really make that clear in the first place about her capabilities.

As for as I'm concerned Michael Steele is the head of the organization called the Republican party until somebody shows up with a better claim.

Rush was funny. I think he also made clear to the thinking why this sort of thing doesn't belong in publicly funded schools.

Private schools are different. As long as the people paying the bills are happy, I'm happy.

"In a Yugo" (done for Rush by Paul Shanklin)
remains in a class by itself.

Incredible lyrics, decent Elvis impersonation, quality production (forgive that they couldn't actually find a running Yugo for the video)

Having lost my father just before Christmas I can understand your emotions. My parents had discussed the issue between themselves and let us kids know what they wanted. They even prearranged their remains; only where they live does not allow them to feed the fish.

I too have made my wishes known verbally to my family and in writing.

Bush was a big-time spender, you'll get no argument from me there. I don't think he could locate his veto pen if his life depended on it.

He cut taxes which helped.... but then had to go and spend money like a drunken Democrat. "Compassionate conservatism" turned out to be a code word for "liberal in disguise."

Even when one subtracts the cost of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, Bush is still the biggest spending president since L.B.J. (that is, until Obama got elected).

Deisel==a vegetable that watches TV and reads the newspaper? That neurosurgeon must be amazed? Did he write her up for his specialty journal?

My mom has more insurance than anyone can use and even with that coverage, without my sisters and myself googling like mad and having an attitude willing to challenge==Mom would have died twice already. Getting a second opinion on lung surgery, and demanding stroke prophylactics on presentation to the ER would not have occurred had mom been on her own. Docs are flat out committing malpractice. Its the 80/20 rule where you give 100% the same advice. Works on the 80% but not the 20%.

I say this for all those who may get involved in the care of a loved one, or even themselves. Docs/Hospitals do indeed "know" a lot more than we do, but only "we" know the 20%.

Take care.

Actually it was a tough decision to make at the time and the doctor was young and had a few others with him.

I can honestly say that my Mother has never laughed more in her entire life than she has in the last 7 years. Of course she has never cried more either but that is partially because of the type of stroke she had.

Fusion, she never spoke about what she wanted ahead of time so I did what I thought was best at the time. My Brothers and I have decided that any major change or incident in the future will be to let her go.

Her neurosurgeon said she would be a vegetable forever. I have a problem with that dipshit as well.

She drives her electric wheelchair and she plays games on her Dell we got her. She has cable and she can watch what she wants on TV or DVD. She also goes through the paper twice a week for sales and taught herself to write again with her left hand (she was right handed).

She is paralyzed totally on her right side and can't speak. She loves her nursing staff and they love her and it shows in the care.

Like I said, I am a little sensitive to the issue.

Like you, all my paperwork says check me out early and often.

Fusion, I am pretty sure that if I post a link it isn't nonsense but I vaguely remember the one you are talking about and it wasn't me. The ones you and I have gone back and forth about were page numbers in a PDF of HB3200. I has always said that "death panel" was a bad name.

#39--Mr Diesel==thanks for the link. Its a standard document not targeted to the VA nor in coercing any particular outcome other than=======in all kindness and only partial facts====the advice that EACH PERSON should decide what they want while they are in shape and able to write it down giving direction to their substituted care giver.

In your rendition of facts, you make it sound like the care your Mom is getting is the result of a personality contest between you and your doctor. THATS NOT WHAT YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO BE DOING. I will assume that you have gotten caught up in your anger at the doctor ((almost always well deserved)) and forgotten that you are also doing what you know to be what your mother would want were she able to speak for herself? That is the legal standard and the only standard talked about in the manual you provided.

I do agree there is a linguistic bias towards ending life so as not to be a burden, but it is subtle===about as subtle as everyone who is being a burden at the end of life really should forego death sustaining procedures. My own instructions are to physically kill me with a Brompton's Cocktail when I can no longer change the TV channel by blinking my eyes.

But thats a different issue for another thread. My mom and I joked for years that she would NOT LET ME be her consent giver because I would kill her off at a moments notice. When she got sick, she signed all the papers with my sisters, making me the alternative consent givers==much to the dismay of my sisters. Hah, hah.

Watching our parents waste away is not pleasant. It has motivated me for myself to get it over sooner than I might have thought without witnessing the slow decline. Again, maybe just me.

"That link has nothing to do with HR 3200. It is a pamphlet put out by my former, before his district was gerrymandered, Congressman. A good man."

It has everything to do with bobbo asked for if you had read his request for the link to which I was referring.
