As I read the provision in question it only prevents discrimination against insurers that choose to offer private insurance coverage to Christian Scientists ( at the Christian Scientist’s expense) . I see nothing that would require an insurance company to offer such coverage, nor anything that would require any tax payer funds to pay for any Christian Science religious practices. So, a lot of the coverage of this issue is completely off base and distorted.

#40 I agree…and in God’s providence He commanded the church heal the sick and feed the poor…

Therefore a Government health care system, that robs the economy and legislates wastes and corruption, for lobbyist kickbacks…isn’t needed.

Moreover, the church handles “end of life medical treatment” much better…there is a limit to what can be spent to prolong life…and they are better equipped to address the issue.

It is absurd we allow our legislature expand their protection racket over 1/6th of the US economy…their Medicare ripoff to everyone…

Get government out of health care…arrest the crooks in congress who are extorting money from businessmen…and health care costs will drop as the free market is allowed to do its work.

Not just the Christian Scientists. But I’ll bet the Scientologists too, will be applying for govt bucks, for their hokey “rundown” treatments. Apparently, vitamins and a massage cures everything.

With various “religions” taking a beating from the slack economy. You can bet more of them will get into this health care scam. Whether it be faith healings, religious health retreats, or meditative therapies. They’ll all be jumping on that bandwagon, should it sell them tickets.

Babara Ehrenreich nailed this subject in her book “Bright-Sided: How the Relentless Promotion of Positive Thinking Has Undermined America”. She had breast cancer and experienced an industry of forced cheerfulness.

The people who believe in and practice spiritual healing are forced to pay an absolute fortune for YOUR medical care, but you aren’t, in turn, going to pay the tiny, tiny relative cost of their healthcare, just because it is spiritual? If we are forced to subsidize your enormous healthcare costs, you can subsidize our relatively miniscule healthcare cost.

Accommodating people who believe in spiritual healing is NOT the same as establishing or promoting an official state-religion, therefore this accommodation does NOT violate the constitution.

I used to date a Christian Science woman. I listened to all she had to say and I didn’t criticize. I was however SHOCKED when I saw a bill she had from a “Faith Healer”. They do in fact pay for these people to pray for them and they act like it is paying for a doctor.

Questions like this are but the tip of the iceberg…uncovered by opening pandora’s box of publicly funded health care…

Why shouldn’t placebos, shaminism, faith healing, crystals, etc etc (the list is endless)…when many “scientific” approaches seem to have even less effectiveness….when homeopathic medicines will likely be paid for.
