#8 — really? Then I want to work there for a day

Not a problem.

(and i will hold you to it, too)

-My cousin originally was only going to keep the store open for just this summer. (the corporation she formed is called "One Summer Only") (it is an all cash business)

-however, she negotiated with Thor for one more year on the lease (the price was too good to pass up)

The hiring scheme there is very casual and unless laws force a change next year, you only need someone to vouch for your honesty to get a job there. -and your payed cash at the end of your shift.

(I've "known" your for at least 30 years through your columns. -your nothing if not consistent and true to your nature, I'd vouch for ya.)

Chief (Paul) probably would not work you on a weekend, but a weekday would be dooable. (he is still working their, of course..the man is a machine. 15-16 hour days...he has been their every day it has been open)

I just put my phone number in the AIM field of my profile. take it down along with my email that is in their.

If the net is still here and Obama hasn't sold the country and the last of her assets (and Coney Island) to the U.N by next summer... the offer will still stand.

Tina is no slouch though.. I gather she'd want you to come early in the summer and trade you a payed days work for an honest write up (preferably in your top two columns, as well as DU)

A nice reminder the that Coney Island Boardwalk is still alive at the front of the summer is always good for business.

Just went to the NC State Fair. All that and more: Deep fried Twinkies/Ho-Hos, candy bars and (unbelievably) deep-fried butter! (no, I did not sample.)

I've never been to Coney Island, but once went to Asbury Park NJ 40 years ago with a girlfriend. The stands must have hired the same sign painters to cover every square inch with the menu. We ate submarine sandwiches.

You couldn't swim in the water then, either.

New York has the best variety of food in the world. San Francisco has crap in comparison. The deli's are to die for, and the street food is great, too.
Here in the Bay Area, it's Jack in the Box or some overpriced snotty restaurant.

Lol...That's my Uncle's place on 10th street, across from the Cyclone. Up until last year, the Astroland Rocket used sit on top of it and it was called Gregory and Pauls.

There was a larger version with a bar at the other end of the boardwalk by the Parachute Jump on 15th street until it was burned down ironically, by one of the families connected to the currently burning of America. (uncle paul refused to sell out to a group looking to turn Coney into a disney land affair)

He's been there for just about 50 years now.

This place was my summer job from 1974-1980 and were i got my old school work ethic. 12hr shifts with a half hour lunch standing at your station. Best job ever.

This past summer he sold it to his daughter (my cousin) after Thor (the current slumlords) BEGGED him to sign for another year. (they failed to get the area rezoned for a beachfront 42nd street fake-phony hotel/condo retail monstrosity. (economy didn't help either)

(FWIW: Thor was raising Astroland's rent from $170k -to $3million. too bad Astroland didn't hold the pokerface long enough to be begged to sign on for another year after the zoning and the credit crunch FUBARED Thor's designs. As it stands now, he's rented it out to a bunch of small food stand type operations with russian "connections".. and they're playing bi-daily 5¢ price war games with old timers still there along with other unmentionables.

Most annoying.
