I always enjoy your photography, John. You have an artistic eye, and know how to get it on “film”.
I especially enjoyed your European pictures Nyhavn, Copenhagen for instance. Didn’t you also shoot in Venice?
Good stuff.
Was this taken today? I’m in Pinole and the fog’s just starting to lift. Great photo!
Very imposing storm approaching GET TO HIGH GROUND (with a metal umbrella)
What’s that off in the right distance? Isn’t it now illegal to take photos of government infrastructure? After all, terrorists could use them to find and study targets for future attacks. I hope you went through the required government vetting process and pulled all relevant government permits before operating that dangerous camera.
Since it’s in the picture, How are the Bay Bridge repairs coming along, and are they doing preventive maintenance as well (I saw what happened to I-35 in Minneapolis)?
Great pic John. It appears to have a lot of dynamic range for a single snapshot. It is a single shot isn’t it?
Very similar to some of the cloudy skies that can be seen in the Flickr HDR pool.
#5,
Every morning the authorities tell us that the Bay Bridge should be reopened in time for the evening commute home. And when the afternoon comes along they say that they are not quite ready, will need some more inspections done, and then need time to take all of the cones off of the bridge, so wait for the next day. When the next cay comes they say the same thing. Meanwhile traffic is horrible all around the bay, there have been tons of accidents, and the Dubai Star spilled a bunch of oil in our nice little bay here. Just lovely.

I screwed up that link.
Some day I’ll learn how to turn text into links like the rest of you guys.
Where was that picture taken? Emeryville? Berkeley?
Taken from Albany Hill. Elevation 500 feet.
John,
As a pro photographer, I would like to know the technical details.
Camera? (sensor type, mp count)
Lens?
Focal length setting if a variable?
ISO?
Shutter?
Aperture?
Processed, raw?
Lightroom, Aperture or Photoshop tweaked?
I’d like to know the tech details of this pic also.
Great work!
It is now my desktop wallpaper.
@11- Faxon,
If you have a photo editing program it will display the pictures EXIF data that lists all the particulars.
John used:
an Oly E-520
Photoshop CS2 (time to upgrade John)
Shutter speed 1/640
at F/3.5
ISO 100
EXIF records a lot more than listed above but that gives you the idea.
Thanks. So I would import the picture into my Lightroom, and all would be revealed. Good.
Excellent! love contrasts, and great resolution also
its on my desktop as we speak. Thanks!
1/640 ??? Hard to believe it would turn out with ISO 100. Must have been a powerful flash gun? ((Hah, hah))

Motivates me to take my Cannon out and see what it can do at dusk. No, can’t believe 1/640.
Composition wise, the eye is drawn to “the hot spot” which is too near the center of the pic. The eye then moves down diagonally to the left then overt to the right along the bottom. This leaves some dead space in the upper right of the pic. It might benefit from just a touch of cropping. Still a great pic though==one of your best. Congrats.
@ bobbo
I calls ‘em like I sees ‘em. Check it out for yourself.
It also appears John took the shot in auto mode and the camera set the above exposure settings.
It’s likely 1/64 and the EXIF appended a “0″
Makes a great wallpaper. Thanks, John
