BTW, it’s always been my understanding that officers can resign at any time (unlike enlisted soldiers). So why didn’t this clown just quit the service, if he didn’t want to go overseas? How is shooting innocent people an alternative? One way he get a honorable discharge, but no retirement benefits. This way he get prison time (many even the death penalty), a dishonorable discharge, and of course no retirement benefits. He could have just shoot himself in the leg, called it an accident while cleaning his gun, and they’d have delayed his trip, or ended it totally. There’s obviously a lot more to this story, than the military has been telling us. And once again they’ve made up a story, or left out some details, to cover their own asses.

This reminds me (in essences) of the story the US Navy came up with the explain the Turret fire aboard the USS Iowa, back in 1989. Their NCIS blamed in on some homosexual sailor, committing suicide. When more like it was defecting power charges, left baking on the loading docks. Typically it became, blame the dead enlistees, not the munitions contractor, or the officer(s) in charge of its safe handling.
