We keep electing rich people to congress, making the assumption that the wealthy would care about the poor and middle class. This twisted logic of course is how we got here. If we elected a continual stream of populists there wouldn't be a problem, as congressmen would be farmed out so often that none lasted long enough to be corrupted by the D.C. environment. Then when it goes to hell they scream give us money or the economic world ends. The government gives money to solve the "crisis" but fails to apply stipulations to the money. oops. If I were the employee and the contract I had said I get a bonus then yep I would take the bonus, and I would fight to make the company pay me if they tried to renege.
