Peruvian police: Gang killed people for their fat | Seattle Times Newspaper — Oh brother.

Police say a gang in the Peruvian jungle has been killing people and draining fat from the corpses to sell on the black market for use in cosmetics, although medical experts say they doubt a major market for fat exists.

Three suspects confessed to killing five people, but the gang may have been involved in dozens more, said Col. Jorge Mejia, chief of Peru’s anti-kidnapping police. He said one suspect claimed the gang wasn’t the only one doing such killings.

Mejia said two of the suspects were arrested carrying bottles of liquid human fat and told police it was worth $60,000 a gallon ($15,000 a liter).

At a news conference, police showed reporters two bottles of fat recovered from the suspects and a photo of the rotting head of a 27-year-old male victim. Suspect Elmer Segundo Castillejos, 29, led police to the head, recovered in a coca-growing valley last month, Mejia said.

Rendered fats has distinct odors. Lard smells different from tallow. I have smelled rendered bear fat, and it has a different aroma. Unfortunately I have smelled burnt human fat, but never rendered. Operating rooms used to reek of burnt meat from electrocautery. For years now they use a vacuum lines to suck it up because the the carcinogens. Same risk as a BBQ.

Two or three years ago, a Beverly Hills plastic surgeon was taking the fat removed from his patients and using it to make biodiesel. Some patients believe that the surgeon took out too much and sued him.

The plastic surgeon used fat from liposuction to power a vehicle – This was partly finding a use for the fat(other than the bin), and partly to demonstrate alternative fuel sources. I think he would have preferred to make $60,000 per gallon.
I say that figure is bogus for human fat.

Scary to say the least. Reminds me of the movie “Silence of the Lambs” where that psycho killed plus size women for their skin. And one has to wonder what do doctors do with the fat from liposuction operations?? Surely the doctors don’t throw the fat out, as doctors want to make a buck every way they can.

To say that fat isn’t lucrative in the “black market” is one who wants to keep their head stuck in the sand and pretend that such evil doesn’t exist in society. As usual, money is the root of all evil.
