The iTablet, as all other iProducts, will quickly become iObsolete. It will still iWork, but the iFans will need the iNewest, iShiniest iThing to maintain their weak iEgo, so the iSlate being announced will be iOldNews a year later.

Why do Apple fans have so many versions of the same product? Because first generation Apple product really really suck. It takes Apple three generations to get something right, and they know fans will buy all three of them:
- 1st generation: New and shiny, barely works
- 2nd generation: This one might actually work as advertised
- 3rd generation: They finally get it right.

One year later the cycle start over, with a new shiny product to replace the 3rd gen ‘old’ product that you just bought last year, but which now your puny consumer mind can’t tolerate to use because it is ‘the old stuff’.

Me, I listen to podcasts and music and watch videos on a $100 unlocked Symbian phone. Saved many $1000′s by avoiding the Apple hype… yes, I can’t choose from 1000′s of ‘Apps’, but really, since there are only maybe 10 apps worth owning, I’m not missing out on much.

I’m fairly sure the smart slate equals big Ipod/Iphone. I suspect it will be nice and just what some people need/want but I’m not one of them at their price point.

I’m aways amazed that Apple can get so much press without announcing anything. For the last few months the ihype has run wild and still Apple has said absolutely nothing. Imagine if all they announce is iphone 4 and a new ilife suite.

Of course if they do have a new product I’m definitely buying version 2.0.

Yea, I know Apple will debut another i-something. And yea, their products are usually cool. But after listening to tech journalists (esp. @ twit) complaining about Apple being so stingy with invites and demo products—as soon as Apple decides Leo Laporte, JCD, and maybe a few others would be of use to them now that Google is breathing down there necks, all they have to do is snap their fingers and everyone makes a big deal about invites without even having pre-release details of why.

JCD, I depend on you to be the “Cranky Geek” that brings down the hammer on this kind of thing. Or am I wrong that Apple has got a lot of nerve?

Remember everyone jumped all over David Pogue not to long ago for similar reasons (which he kindly defended on my site). I hope history is not about to repeat itself.

If Apple doesn’t put out a new phone, they open themselves to being left behind by the pack.

IMNOHO, unless the iSlate comes with bundled print and video media, and unless that same media is *not* also available via iTunes on Mac and Windows, I can’t see why vast numbers of the public would buy one. Oh, except to be seen as cool. But, by definition, nothing that is owned by everyone is cool.

Cool is the providence of the exclusive, meaning you must sell very few!

I only have an iPhone because it functioned better than the other similar phones I tried. But for the phone: I hate Apple, and its cadre of sycophants.

Obama cares since he will be doing his State of the Union address that night. If Apple really hits a Home Run with the iSlate. It can take away from his media time in the news cycle. Hell he already moved the date so as not to mess up the “Lost” premiere.
