JScott, unless you repent, may the great prophet Hume hurl a high-definition thunderbolt in your general direction
No surprise that the deep south is most f’d up of all.
John C Dvorak said, on February 2nd, 2010 at 10:58 am
The California IQ is disturbing. Outside of Mississippi, we are the dumbest state in the country (tied with Alabama)…
You live in California, don’t you?
Well, it seems that you’re living proof of the chart’s findings…
94 – Mississippi
95 – Louisiana
96 – Alabama
96 – California
96 – Hawaii
96 – New Mexico
Some states don’t have a divorce rate and the IQ of people in various states varies?
I have no clue where they got their numbers from.
I do know this thing is crap.
I suspect the person posting this garbage has been using way to much weed or was that huffing? Either that or they are trolling: Trying to get a fuss going.
No wonder why people believe in man-made global warming. Someone who completely biased makes a chart that full of bullshit facts and people proclaim it as gospel. Read how the source of the “facts” were actually produced. Even the website for the IQ scores say not to take it seriously.
IQ’s were determined by survey. The question: “What is your IQ?” received answers ranging between “I’m 5″ and “106 feet” . Answers were verified by ‘part b’ of the question, “Type in your answer again.”
We need to remember that correlation does not mean causation.
There probably isn’t one cause, I think that the various factors feed on each other.
Religious people tend to be less educated and have lower standards of living, less educated people tend to be more religious and have a lower standards of living and people who have a lower standard of living tend to be more religious and less educated. This doesn’t mean that religiosity, education or standard of living determines the other two variables, it seems (to me at least) that its not one of the variables causes the others its that they variables feed on each other (you change one regardless of which one, the others will change).
There is one variable that is more important than the others though: education. Because it is the variable that is the easiest to change. Increase education and you lower religiosity, lower conservatism, lower crime rates, these in turn effect each other further lowering each other and increasing education.
deowll said, …blah blah “no clue where they got their numbers from,” blah blah “thing is crap,” blah blah “Trying to get a fuss going”
So what’s wrong with a little fussing? Adds flavor to life.
And Gary, I have a thunderbolt-proof vest.
One last thing: I have said several times recently that people say they just don’t believe EVIDENCE that supports differing ideas. We are geeks here right? Try refuting EVIDENCE for a change. If it’s crap, it should be fairly simple to prove that. You know how to spell Google don’t you? Or maybe it’s the dot com you are having problems with..? Here’s a hint: don’t spell out the dot.
#42 “No surprise that the deep south is most f’d up of all.”
Why do you say that? Lived there a lot have you?
#49 We’re not making fun of the banjo states, just discussing the correlation of the data. Personally, I love to visit for good old fashion cooking and bbq.
Moooah , fantastico!
#46 Skeptic said “IQ’s were determined by survey.”
Good thing they didn’t ask for penis size.
Notice that IQ varies inversely as temperature, more or less? Once again, every article should have a BS-o-meter if any do.
10: Calling Atheism a religion is like calling bald a hair color.
#53
I don’t know, sometime it is hard when the few Atheist out there are so adamant about “hate” that it practically falls under “fanaticism” which is of course like religion in most forms.
It’s not just that they don’t believe in religion and want nothing to do with it, but they go out of their way to make sure absolutely nothing stands between them and their non-religious rights. Sounds familiar?
Meet my Christian friend here…who will stand at nothing you are or do if you’re not a Christian! Hence, ex-friend.
#50 Dallas, the best bbq I ever had was in your namesake city. Spring Creek Barbeque, on 75 just north of 635. I also loved the garlic pizza at Campisi’s on Mockingbird Lane (where Jack Ruby used to hang out) and the Chicken Fried Chicken at the Black Eyed Pea restaurants.
yum… now I’m hungry.
#54 – You really have it wrong. Just because we think you are stoopid doesn’t mean we hate you. We just roll our eyes at your collective gullibility.
