Really, what rights was he within to ‘defend’ himself from a handcuffed woman? Sure, she was annoying, but that is NO excuse for what you claim occurred. The cop is a bully and a thug to beat up on a woman because she had a big mouth.
He should have followed procedures and his training, but its on the record that he did neither. If he didn’t even follow procedures he’d have been heavily trained to do, then why the hell do you believe HIS version of what happened. Its already a matter of public record that he fucked up, and yet you’re still defending him. What a moran!
This is old, but it an illustrates a common misconception that gets people in trouble with police time and time again. The police are not your friends, the police are state employees empowered by the courts to enforce the state’s interest. They can and do lie, cheat, beat, threaten with force to make their subjects comply with the state’s interest. It is to their benefit to use as much of their power as needed to reach the state’s goals as possible. The use of force reenforces the need for police power.
I do not agree with what seems to be near limitless power the police seem to have, but because of the nature of our judicial system, there seems to be very little citizens can do to check the power. When you are in the company of a police officer, remember he/she benefits directly from exercising their court sanctioned power on you, if you operate under this assumption – you are being as cautious as you can, and ensuring the best possible outcome for your misfortune.
I don’t think he beat her with his hands but would not rule out a head butt. Cops beating someone is usually limited to young blacks or perhaps gays with a lisp, not pretty girls.
My guess is she did in fact fall and busted her face because her hands are tied.

Actually, Zybch. those sorts of bruises (black eyes) are typical of the subcutaneous bleeding that often occurs with a broken nose. I’m not a forensics specialist but I’ve never seen black eyes like hers from a beating.

A cause of the crisis in the mortgage and credit markets? I’m going to torture and impair myself with a bottle of bourbon this evening. If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. If it stops, subsidize it. Note to USAF: You might just want to nuke the entire screwed up country. I’m having a drink!
#10 – I only hope this happens to your daughter, I think you’ll feel differently. All that fucking douchebag, scum-sucking cop had to do was put her in a room to cool off. Instead, he chose to beat the hell out of her and leave her in a pool of blood. Way to go tough guy!
Exactly. Now they’re doing it to everyone they consider a “civilian.”
I *hate* when the cops call us “civilians.” Proof that they believe they’re some sort of para-military org. Which makes sense, since they’re all ex-military these days. Different skill-set, as we’ve seen from Iraq.
Why turn off the camera, I thought the good guys have nothing to hide.
What’s disturbing is that he got reinstated because of a technicality and that the city doesn’t give a shit that it lost $400,000 of the taxpayer’s money because of this moron. I hope the chief gives him toilet bowl duty till he quits.
Somehow I doubt that when they have a perp for interrogation, that it’s standard operating procedures to shut the tape off as his defense lawyer insists.
OTOH, being foolish enough to challenge some micro-dicks authority was what led this woman into that situation – $400,000 richer yes, which is about what the plastic surgeon will want to fix that scar on her forehead and put her nose back where it was. I teach my 3 kids, if you can’t avoid contact with the police, the correct answers are yes sir or no sir. Keep your head down and your mouth shut, and above all obey.
That’s why there should be a Camera in the booking area in the corners of the room in every corner, monitored by dispatch. Every square inch should be covered. The cop would not be able to “turn off the camera” and knowing they are watched keeps things on a even flow. The Camera does not lie.
Re: #28: The link goes to someone who seems like a very intelligent person and I can only hope that he is not right about the unconstitutional use of energy weapons because the technology certainly exists to do everything he talks about.
As others have said, those injuries most likely happened when she hit the floor….with her face….and a large man on top of her at the time. Obviously, all of that could of been avoided if she had kept her mouth shut. Screaming, demanding and acting like a spoiled child that’s going to throw a tantrum if they don’t’ get their way is the wrong approach. I would assume that the police officer “read her the riot act” (so to speak) but I seriously doubt he meant to do that. But this is all speculation obviously.
Ve can not help it! Ve are only obeying orders!

#19, Improbus… I don’t condone the cops behavior in any way, but this woman was hysterically pushing for a reaction from a brute… and she got one.
Next on her agenda… walk among a drunken gang of Hells Angles and call them ‘dickless mommas boys’.

This happens to the knee grow all the time.
You can’t be a cop till you learn how to do this stuff and get away with it. When you get caught you make everybody look bad and have to be fired.
