Two Census Bureau managers from a Brooklyn field office were fired after their bosses found they faked household surveys to meet deadlines, the Daily News learned.

Instead of pounding the pavement and knocking on doors, the corner-cutting people-counters mined the phone book and Internet to make up answers to questionnaires, regional director Tony Farthing said.

The managers – turned in by whistleblower employees – were caught last week. Now, at least 10,000 surveys need to be done or redone, officials said.

I’m sure these guys had to pay fines for fraud…

Your federal tax dollars at work.

  2. Benjamin says:

If they only asked how many people live at what address, then they would have an easier job getting compliance through the mail and wouldn’t have to hire goons that only inflate Obama’s job growth numbers.

  3. Dallas says:

Never mind the drivel postings about the Census which is mandated by the Constitution.

The real question is why is Dick Cheney and his bitch Bush, not in jail for destroying our treasury and marching thousands to their death?

  6. Dallas says:

    Meh.. More drivel….yawn.

..as if the Census was ever efficient or devoid of waste like any other government program.

“The managers … were caught last week. ”

They will pay a fine, lose their jobs and go back to work for ACORN.

Here it is, July in 2010, and I’ve yet to get a Census form in the mail, or meet a Census employee at my door. Oddly enough one of my best friends IS working part time for the Census but dosen’t troll in my neighborhood.

    I guess I don’t officially exist.
So I guess I shouldn’t officially pay taxes.

  9. Improbus says:

    @FRAGaLOT

Really? They love me so much that I got to fill out both the basic and extended forms.

  10. Gary, the dangerous infidel says:

I have my own questions about the validity of the census. In some of the news coverage, I heard some people complain about receiving too many mailings, and that multiple mailings might be wasteful of taxpayer dollars. I didn’t receive a single mailing — no pre-census announcement, no census form, and no reminder to mail in the completed form.

I finally called the phone number listed on the census website and gave my info over the phone so as not to waste the time of a census worker. I can’t help but wonder if any worker would have shown up.

Maybe I can sue the federal government for causing me to question my own existence 😉

Mine arrived on time and I filled it up and sent it off.

For some reason asking people about race and ethnicity bother me. It feels intrusive and raciest besides I know to many people with an equal claim to more than one category.
