The numbers are actually in and there is no way this nation can pay all the money for social safety nets that we are now obligated to pay for. Not even if you turn everybody other that government ticks into paupers because once they are paupers the cupboard is bare.

If GM and Chrysler had cease to exist , the Suppliers who were also in deep debt and not being paid by GM and Chrysler would likely fail too. They provide well over 2/3rds of the parts that make up GM, Chrysler, AND FORD cars, plus foreign owned brands.

Ford might have survived might not luckily we will never have to know could be that Ford fails and with the exit of viable parts Suppliers the foreign owned brands move a lot of there manufacturing out of the US. I’d take the political heat and save the US Auto Industry.

If McCain were in office the very similar bailout would probably have happened and the Dems would be trying to use it as a weapon for the midterms.

Sorry not even McCain would let that much of what is left of the US manufacturing base go under.

Personally I’m looking forward to the day the US gov sells its GM stock but I hope they don’t do it to soon and not make back as much money as they could.

discloser I don’t even like GM cars ok I bought an Opel in the 70s but I don’t think that counts.
