The drug companies got a promise not to allow drug reimportation from Canada. The insurance companies got Obama to nix the “public option,” as well as not killing the insurance anti-competitive practices loophole.
These huge deals were done immediately to bring the biggest crooks in healthcare onside, and Obama got diddly squat in return. He caved in on the substantive bits BEFORE entering negotiations. That’s quite important.
Far from being ideological, or even idealistic, the healthcare package was a boldfaced industry payoff in exchange for a talking point to run for reelection on.

A very nice summation of the top lies about the goals and actions of the administration. (You forgot the Death Panels.) For example, the administration is accused of stopping (or at least wanting to stop) ALL oil drilling. In fact, in the wake of the Gulf oil spill, approximately 30 Gulf oil drilling platforms were put on hiatus (not permanent stoppage) out of approximately 3,600 producing Gulf installations. 30/3600 is far from ALL, but ALL makes for scarier headlines. (OMIGOD!!! We’re going to run out of gasoline in about 40 minutes because Obama is proposing to stop ALL oil drilling everywhere in the universe forever and ever and ever!!! Fascism is extreme nationalism with an almost religious component; a slightly extended conception of the nation is directly venerated. The public is not a valued component in the discussion.
Socialism is much wider tent, but the focus is in the opposite direction from fascism.
Socialism is about increasing and managing “public goods,” while that concept is alien to Fascists who would think more in terms of ‘national goods’(my term).
