Rep. Gabrielle Giffords of Arizona was shot at a Tucson event Saturday morning; five others have been reportedly killed.
Arizona state Sen. Linda Lopez, who is at University Medical Center in Tucson, said she spoke to Giffords’ parents and that they said she is in the emergency room undergoing surgery and is in very serious condition…
At least four people are dead, University Medical Center spokesman Darci Slaten said. They were among five to seven people who were being treated.
The NBC affilliate in Tucson reports that the FBI has taken over the investigation…
Giffords, 40, a Democrat, serves the 8th Congressional District…
Giffords was re-elected to her third term last November. She was a member of the Arizona House and Senate before coming to Washington.
She first won election to Congress amid a wave of Democratic victories in 2006. In November, she edged a tea party favorite.
There never is a shortage of violent, ignorant thugs in this land who fervently believe they can enforce their political will by force of arms.

Beck is very repetitive, and uses a lot of ‘inside’ jokes and references (i.e. Van Jones) only his dedicated fans will catch. 15 minutes is about the max for anyone with real knowledge of the subjects he’s clowning about.
This has nothing to do with Sarah Palin, or Republicans, or conservatives, or gun ownership.
This has everything to do with a lone nutjob who was either off his meds or escaped from his rubber room.
Lets not use this tragedy for political bashing of any kind.
#62–Mr Pain, the window to your soul shows an empty room.
Of course this incident has EVERYTHING to do with what you list out, to different degrees, all interactive with lots of other issues too.
Only a partisan tool/drudge/idiot want to simplify an issue down to one isolated factor.
Why didn’t you list: “This has nothing to do with the Vienna Boys Choir?”
I actually caught a very intelligent explanation on Fox News earlier this afternoon about why they were not talking about any other victims of this abomination. Their response to an IM or e-mail about focusing almost exclusively on the Congresswoman was that they had no other names to release or if, by some chance, they did have a name, they did not want to say it until law enforcement had informed the victim’s family.
Man the liberals on this site and elsewhere appear to be enjoying this news.
Things seem to be getting worse lately. Nearby to my locale, some screwball is sending exploding mail parcels to state officials. With the reason being some objection to seeing “Inform Your Government of Any Suspicious Activities” signs around town. I mean, I hardly ever notice them myself. And when I do, I get a bit of a chuckle from that. First, shouldn’t it be obvious that you’re supposed to do that? Or do citizens expect the police to have their eyes and ears everywhere? I think the signs are more to inform immigrates from lands where the criminals are in charge. So reporting their activities, back to them, only gets you killed. But in the USA, the police and feds are 99% honest.
But why a sign about doing one’s civic duty, should upset anyone to the point of mailing small bombs to public officials, is beyond any sane reasoning, I can think of. Fortunately, they’ve only been puny match-head bombs.
Of course, the last time we had a rash of mail bombings (far more deadly) like this. It was the work of a Harvard graduate mathematician, turned violent backwoods fruitcake. Who only objected to ALL modern day progress. Like we were going to unring that bell, just for him.
Where have you been. This happens all over the world, and throughout time. How do you think we got our independence from England.
I like the fact that, unless we have another Jack Ruby out there, we’re going to be able to find out exactly what this imbecile’s views are.
If he is a Palin drone (sorry about the word choice,) he’s going to show exactly what kind of people follow her and drink her vitriol.
If not, then that’ll shut some people up, won’t it?
Face it, nobody’s going to rally round this nut case’s flag.
Killing little girls is not popular in this country. This isn’t some xxx-stan somewhere full of angry mullahs.
I wonder what ideology he’s going to trot out to justify himself. (Of course, he’s bound to get offers of marriage [from both sexes now,] a book contract, supporters from the other nut jobs who support the cause but don’t have the balls, and so on.)
That it didn’t end in a ball of flame with body parts flying everywhere, with his suicide (or two to the back of the head) doesn’t mean that the politicians out there are not going to be a lot more nervous.
I hope that it turns out that the shooting was utterly the product of his deranged imagination.
Gun control advocates are going to get a little more ammo.
But this will change nothing.
We’re not Pakistan; where, when some working-class, religious nut case decides that he doesn’t agree with the liberal politics (he was against the application of Pakistan’s blasphemy laws in the case of a woman who it is alleged had spoken ill of Mohamed*,) of the person he’s guarding, he empties a Kalashnikov clip into the limo he was supposed to be guarding.
Quid cusodiet ipsos custodes indeed.
*) She was probably moaning about the death of a relative at the hands of the Taliban.
#60 You;re using Olberman as a reference? That guy is as big a nutjob as GB!
I read a post at HuffPo that said “Let us return to being a nation of civility, of open discourse and reasonable compromise“.
Like when did that ever happen?
Read your history books.
This is not Canada or Antarctica.
#70–podcast==its a matter of degree not a comparison to an absolute. Yes, our parents were more polite than we are, or maybe just less informed and so less motivated. Now, reasonable compromise was objectively more present before the abuse of filibuster taken on by the Pukes with the election of Obama.
The statement from Huff Po is inaccurate, but more right than wrong.
National tragedy? I haven’t seen the media go overboard like this since the JFK Jr death. At least this time there are some others we should care about who died, like the little girl and 5 others.
Eideard “There never is a shortage of violent, ignorant thugs in this land who fervently believe they can enforce their political will by force of arms.”
That’s because it works.
“There never is a shortage of violent, ignorant thugs in this land who fervently believe they can enforce their political will by force of arms.”
George W. Bush and Barack Obama?
This guy sounds like a Manchurian Candidate. Why else would he end up shooting the sheeple instead of the BSP?

the shooter was a leftie. NOT a “palin follower”
