That all-important “one more thing” from Apple’s software presentation is part of the iCloud Web application and storage suite. It was a coup of sorts — and Apple’s win over competitors could be attributed to Jobs’ experience at Pixar Animation Studios, which he co-founded.
[...]
In that interview eight years ago, Jobs described the vast divide between technology and entertainment executives, and he talked about how he bridged it.“One of the things I learned at Pixar is the technology industries and the content industries do not understand each other,” he said. “In Silicon Valley and at most technology companies, I swear that most people still think the creative process is a bunch of guys in their early 30s, sitting on a couch, drinking beer and thinking of jokes. No, they really do. That’s how television is made, they think; that’s how movies are made.”
Likewise, record executives can’t relate to technical people, Jobs said.
[...]
Because technology companies treat record labels like clearing houses for content, Silicon Valley bigwigs have trouble getting through the door, Jobs suggested. So it was perhaps Jobs’ expertise from Pixar, during his exodus period from Apple, that has given him the edge to secure risky deals with entertainment giants first.

#40 Thanks for explaining to us your sheep mentality, were you want to be told were to go and what to do instead of thinking and doing by yourself.
You’re 100% sheeple.
#38 Pedro said: “Because after the Apple III, mac became just a copy factory.”
And Microsoft created Windows from scratch? There are very few new ideas that spring from nowhere. Most of engineering is building on what came before. Or at least that’s my engineering professors taught me that turned out to be right.
And then Pedro said: “They did their business praying on ignorants that needed things easy; spoon-fed computer “users”.”
I wonder if that’s because the majority of users aren’t engineers or programmers who like fiddling with computers and software. They just want a tool to get things done.
I guess by your logic cars shouldn’t be so easy to use by ignorant drivers who can’t build their own.
Look Steve jobs genius is PR/advertizing. He is a typical used car salesman.
There’s something to be said for NOT owning & operating your own high performance cloud. OTOH, a private, personal backup cloud is nice to have too.
Dallas & Uncle Dave have it right. People want things that work and are reliable. Android is getting there, but its too scattered, unreliable and every month there is a new hardware platform that has software compatibility quirks with the last. Who wants the hassle of hacking all the time?
Peedro once again shows us his narrow mindedness and hatefulness of a great American company.
Apple offers volume and ways to lock customers in. That is perfect for content media mogul’s. The iCloud is nothing more then a means to do just that. What’s good for Apple is good for media customers. But bad for Apple customers. Who will now get locked even further into Apple.
#45 People don’t get locked into anything. People use things because it works better or it is easier then what they were using.
I don’t believe that the reason Apple has had so much success is because a few people drank some Kool-aid. Apple has had record sales mainly due to first time Mac buyers. And the huge success of ipod, itunes and i os devices. They have worked harder on this system over the last 10 years then anyone else that is why they are where they are now.
All the other players believed that gaming or business was the future and laughed at Apple’s digital hub theory back in 2000. 10 years in and Microsoft is just showing real promise with Windows 8. I think 8 has potential to show that Microsoft hasn’t been just repackaging win 2000 for the last decade. Don’t forget Google and Amazon both have great potential to change what the future looks like also.
#42 Thanks for helping me prove #15′s childish point that we owe god Steve the GUI wrong. Both Steve & Bill stole from the same source: PARC. So we would have ended up with GUI anyway.
And no, Uncle Dave. Your comparison is so out of the park and is not even funny. mac gave up on the computer business a long time ago; they got stuck on their share of the market growing only a few, single digit percentage points.
They changed their model to content providers. You cannot say that any of their oy! toys is remotely comparable to a computer. Those are media consumption devices; just mere consumer products as cars (as you tried to compare with a computer) or a toaster and are aimed at stupid people that want instant gratification and are willing to lose control of their privacy for a “savior” who can give them what they want with the least amount of knowledge nor control over that by paying a fee. Enclosed in their microcosm without the liberty (they don’t want it anyway) to choose something else.
The same stupid mentality of those that want a cloud and are outside a corporate or government environment. Funny enough, here’s mac copying MS with that cloud thingy.
Is a mentality akin to those that want the government to give them everything without them having to care for themselves nor their families.
Behind are the days of hard working, educated to be the best at their work people. I want the government or a company to take care of me for a fee (specially if someone else pays that fee).
Behold the era of someone else taking care of me, no matter if I give away my rights, my privacy and my money.
BTW, thank to The Turde for making my point once again. You’re a very good behaved sheep, just like Dallas.
#45 They don’t see that as bad. They rejoice on it. Just read #46 for further explanation.
That totally makes sense. I think all computer manufacturers, ISP’s, content companies, and online services should stop business right now and make Americans do all this stuff for themselves again! It’s made the USA weak and the terrorists have won. And it kills puppies. And kittens. And frightened away the unicorns.
#48 I agree too. They should go out of business ’cause mac is here to give you all that. You don’t need anyone else.
Now, open wide, here comes the airplane. That’ll be 39.99 a month.
#49 I am also disgusted by Amazon who provides terrific, a terrific Kindle device, and a pleasant customer experience. Both Amazon and Apple are pricks trying to ruin democracy.
#47 Your Alphie-like rambling and parroting terms you just heard says you are embarrassed with your dumb post earlier. But then you said “cloud thingy” which is a leading indicator of being a moron. I hope you don’t work with heavy machinery.
I’ll assume you were trying to agree but had difficulty defending your earlier stupid post and things just got messy. It’s ok and we’re here to help you.
Peedro is infamous for inventing things other people say, which is why proper debating with him is useless. I’m sure he’ll pop a vessel one of these days. Hopefully he will finish some landscaping around here before that happens.
