Today marks the end of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell“. The law is repealed. From this day forward Gay and Lesbian soldiers may serve in our Army with the dignity and respect they deserve. Our rules, regulations and policies reflect the repeal guidance issues by the Department of Defense and will apply uniformly without regard to sexual orientation, which is a personal and private matter.

Overdue.

  1. Benjamin says:

When I was in the military I didn’t care to hear straight sailors tell sex stories. DADT made it so I didn’t have to listen to gay sailors telling sex stories. I really rather hear no sex stories at all.

  2. Cave Johnson says:

Taxed Enough Already Dude it sounds like you want to impose your beliefs on the rest of the nation that’s downright Un-American! Are you sure the USA is the right country for you? You might be happier in a theocracy, Vatican City or Iran would suite you better. It’s clear the Great Melting Pot (cultural mosaic) of the US is not for you.

noname my Dad was a Commander in the Navy and he is fine DADT being repealed. (grow a pair) Blacks, women, gays they are taking the same oath and offering to defend our nation with there lives if it comes to that. The Navy’s ban on fraternization and intimacy aboard its vessels is still in place If thats not good enough for you you don’t belong in this nations Navy.

¿Hyper masculinity…gay or not think about it.

  3. noname says:

    # 62 Cave Johnson, I am really happy, for your Daddy, being a “Commander” and all in the Navy.

What where you? Should I instead ask, what do you want to be when you grow up?

I can’t believe, some supposedly grown-up (# 62 Cave Johnson) is telling me “my Daddy is” Stories.

Maybe your “Commander” “Daddy” can help you answer your own supposedly cleaver “think about it question”: “¿Hyper masculinity…gay or not think about it.”

Why is it, the ignorant and the most non-qualified diffises (My Daddy is: # 62 Cave Johnson), so full of themselves, even dare to venture out and try to impose their dangerous childish thoughts? Your Daddy must have given you lots of luv and self esteem?

Like you say, (grow a pair); if you even know what I mean!

    # 58 Taxed Enough Already Dude, you and your tea party “certifiable idiots” are also full dangerously of it.

  4. noname says:

    # 56 bobbo, the evangelical anti-theist,

You should read your own stuff and learn how “to tell shit from shinola.”

    What was your rank?

  5. foobar says:

“Our military is the best, as presently organised.”

Yup, those guys at Omaha Beach and Midway really don’t deserve my respect.

  6. Milo says:

Gee, I though Obama never accomplishes anything!

  7. Olo Baggins of Bywater says:

Milo, you thought right. Obama has just destroyed the entire US military, killed recruitment, made gay sex a common foxhole activity, and gave aids to all the soldiers.

    Get your spin right.

  8. Dallas says:

Finally! Now our military can be as effective as the gay and bad ass Israeli military!

What’s next to cause Christian Taliban heads to explode?

  9. bobbo, the evangelical anti-theist says:

noname==what would my rank, my experience, or my Daddy have to do with any opinion I post?

I posted none of that==BOTH you and Cave chose to make NOT an appeal to authority in my view but rather simply a human recollection of your personal contact to the issue of this thread. Nothing wrong with that: mentioned, but not relied on.

Your shit: calling Cave out for something you did yourself. Dimwitted.

The shinola: recognizing what is human in all of us.

I carefully reread your Post #53==not as bad as first read. Still a horrible lack of empathy-the viewing of the world only from your own perspective. Actually, I agree with everything you say and disagree only with what you don’t balance it with which I would.

Yes, anything not mission oriented potentially interferes with the mission. Regaling bunk mates with tales of butt sex would be disruptive for me and so would tales of heterosexual escapades if told in some unacceptable/uncomfortable way. Although, I recall there not being much else to talk about. Ha, ha.

All such disagreements/social interactions can be done with the bias of hating anyone who is different, or simply remind everyone of “good order” for the ship. I for one especially hate stories about having sex with very fat women, very skinny women, women missing one eye, women who can’t tell the difference between a condom and bubble gum and all sorts of other characteristics that don’t float my boat. “Knock it Off” usually suffices? People who take restoring mission focus farther into racial/sexual bigotry are worse than the offenders they complain about.

Foobar–since you understand todays troops are “basically” the same as your Daddy’s troops, I wonder if you accept the notion that so are everyone else’s troops? Whatever differences you might find, the similarities far outweigh the differences.

    Same as it ever was.

  10. Angel H. Wong says:

I have the strange feeling these “macho” veterans still think the skinny, femme, lisping fairies you see on MTV are the norm. The repeal of DADT and the official admission of gays and lesbians in the military serves to protect those who are serving already from being booted for something so stupid as to what gets them horny.

It’s not about flaunting your sexuality you dumbasses. It’s all about serving your country with honor and respect.

  11. Cave Johnson says:

#63 “I can’t believe, some supposedly grown-up (# 62 Cave Johnson) is telling me “my Daddy is” Stories.”

Sorry you did not care for me sharing my conversations with a 20 year Navy Veteran who I have had a life long close personal relationship with.

I did enjoy your personal attack thanks for the attention.

The US Military was the first major organization to eliminate segregation and foster an environment of non-discrimination in the 50s voices similar yours said it was a bad thing. History has proved them wrong I would bet history will judge this the same.

My dangerous childish thoughts are inline with our military leaders and the majority of the country yours in the minority I guess you will have to accept this personal hardship.

    Thank you for your Service,

  12. Guyver says:

There will be unintended consequences. Will the barracks still be segregated by gender only?

Also, like it or not Gays are much more likely to get AIDS than non-gays. The CDC used to put out a report that showed proportionality of AIDS victims and their sexual orientation but that got yanked when the new political message was it’s a disease that affects everyone (even though the Gays take the lion’s share).

Why is this a big deal? When someone acquires a disease or condition while in the military, it is considered service-connected. Gays getting AIDS while on military duty will be covered by the VA and assigned a disability, etc. to be paid for by tax payers.

  13. Guyver says:

    23, Bobbo,

Mickey–the army with the tightest unit cohesion was that of Sparta. Every one a raging gay.

Therefore we have historical proof that homosexuality behavior can be nurtured / fostered.

That said, the reason why the Greeks promoted gayness in their military was because they believed the soldiers would fight harder if they fought by the side of their lovers.

    27, Faxon,

My son says he was thinking of enlisting in the Navy, but with the gays all over the place, he won’t ever share a sleeping or shower facility with them.

Then no submarine duty for him since he’ll be hot racking for a while until he makes rank.

    28, Steth-Killa,

Getting AIDS in a blood transfusion is a stupid argument against DADT.

It’s a pragmatic concern. By eliminating DADT, do you suppose gay enlistment will go up or down? Since gays take the lion’s share of those afflicted with AIDS, what do you suppose that does to the risk factors of hypothetically being exposed for whatever the circumstances?

The military has always been a great social experiment. Equal pay for equal rank, regardless of race or sex for decades(you don’t find that in the civilian work force even today).

You’ve obviously not served in the military. Equal rank does not mean equal work. Most military women cannot even pass a PT test if held to the male standards. The whole equal pay for equal rank is nothing more than G.I. Jane symbolism. Anyone will tell you the weakest link physically is almost ALWAYS female. There are a few women who can clock a guy, but those women are statistical anomalies.

    51, Bobbo,

Soooooooooo simplistic to think “anything” is “caused by” one thing and one thing only.

Strange…. almost sounded like you criticizing yourself and man-made global warming. :)

    53, NoName,

That is what I, and many others strongly object too, them not keeping it to themselves. I don’t want to know, and that is why DADT works.

Big Yup! I don’t care if someone is gay, I just don’t want them shoving their gayness down my throat. Keep it to yourself if that’s the way you swing.

The military has a mission. This gay butt shit, only detracts from staying focused on the mission.

Liberals forget that when they try to push their petri dish experiments.

    54, Bobbo,

I’ve known a good number of gays in the work place. I’ve never seen one flaunt their sexuality === well, beyond getting excited about the community play they were in.

Therefore what was the problem with DADT other than a desire to openly flaunt their sexual orientation and maybe obtain a minority status?

    57, Bobbo,

I’m probably wrong but she didn’t look like she could carry a 100 pound backpack up a mountain and a wounded buddy back. Surprising what these weepy young females can do these days.

Almost all the women in the military can’t carry a 100 pound pack on the ground or 100 pounds of chains on a flight deck. But because the military is an “equal opportunity” employer and doesn’t like accusations of sexual harassment, the male members of the unit end up picking up the slack. Less men per unit, more work for individual men… all while women get compensated for equal pay because they have the same pay grade but do less of the work. That’s not an opinion… that’s been my personal observations between two branches I served in.

    62, NoName,

my Dad was a Commander in the Navy and he is fine DADT being repealed. (grow a pair) Blacks, women, gays they are taking the same oath and offering to defend our nation with there lives if it comes to that. The Navy’s ban on fraternization and intimacy aboard its vessels is still in place If thats not good enough for you you don’t belong in this nations Navy.

Does your dad think berthing / barracks will strictly be by gender only? There will be splitting of hair. There will be unintended consequences and it will come with a bigger price tag for tax payers that takes away from the military mission to accommodate “alternative lifestyles”. Your Daddy should already know what happened with berthing and heads (aka latrines / bathrooms) when women served aboard warships.

    70, Angel Wong,

It’s all about serving your country with honor and respect.

And they couldn’t already do that under DADT?

  14. noname says:

    # 69 bobbo, the evangelical anti-theist;
Dude you are so very dim witted on so many fronts, put down your pot and take some vitamins or something before you post.

    You said:
“I carefully reread your Post #53==not as bad as first read. Still a horrible lack of empathy-”

Your dame right it’s a “horrible lack of empathy-”. Offering Empathy is allays more sincere and compassionate then Sympathy; because with Empathy, you blithering idiot, you have to have shared the same “painful” experiences. I sir, have never shared a gay’s experience nor do I care to.

Again, if only 10% of humanity is born gay, 90% is not interested in perusing involvement! DADT did not demand gay’s not be gay; it only, asked that gay’s don’t parade out their sexuality.

I guess, being gay damages any social or personal facility of being discreet.

So no, I gladly have no empathy for gays, I only have plenty of sympathy for the poor bastards!!

In the cartoon, the gay in the box probably got it in the back from the dude the dead gay wanted to date. That’s how the solder knew “Turns out, that guy was gay”.

Gay’s should know, don’t fuck with people, holding loaded guns that are supposed to have your back.

  15. noname says:

    # 71 Cave Johnson

Another blithering idiot posting shit he knows nothing about. Your right, I don’t give a shit about your daddy.

“The US Military was the first major organization to eliminate segregation and foster an environment of non-discrimination in the 50s”

Do you really have to tell me, a black man about the 50′s or the military?? Did your “20 year” daddy raise to be that dumb?? Where was your mommy when daddy was gone?

  16. Phydeau says:

#73 “Therefore we have historical proof that homosexuality behavior can be nurtured / fostered.”

Do you even know any gay people?

There’s a world of difference between being able to talk about your loved one, regardless of gender, and “fraternizing” with your fellow soldiers. Fraternizing has always been against the rules. And guess what — the rules have always been broken occasionally. Some people get caught and pay the price, others don’t.

There are already gay people in the military having sex with each other, pal. Repealing DADT has nothing to do with that.

Big Yup! I don’t care if someone is gay, I just don’t want them shoving their gayness down my throat. Keep it to yourself if that’s the way you swing.

So some guy at work saying “my boyfriend and I went biking this weekend” is “shoving it down your throat”? Just knowing that someone is gay is “shoving it down your throat”?

Dude. You are so squeamish about gay people that you can’t even bear knowing that someone is gay. That’s your problem, so keep it in the closet (heh) because we don’t want to hear about your bigotry.

They’re here (they’ve always been here), they’re queer, get fucking used to it. And move on.

  17. Phydeau says:

#74 Again, if only 10% of humanity is born gay, 90% is not interested in perusing involvement! DADT did not demand gay’s not be gay; it only, asked that gay’s don’t parade out their sexuality.

You too noname? The guy at work says “I went biking with my boyfriend this weekend” and that’s “parading out” his sexuality? And that hurts your poor little feelings?

Don’t be such a goddamn wuss. It really isn’t contagious, if you’re afraid it is, it just means you’re a closet case. :)

There’s no homophobe like a closeted homophobe.

  18. Phydeau says:

#78 noname: do you actually know any gay people? Or is your only exposure to them the worst excesses of gay pride parades?

Really, it ok for a gay to be in your face with their butt shit

What do you mean by this? Is a guy mentioning his boyfriend in casual conversation “getting in your face with his butt shit”? What the hell are you talking about? Or do you think that all gay guys do is hit on straight guys and talk about gay sex all the time. Like I said: do you actually know any gay people?

I know lots of gay guys and they’re not leering sluts, at least not in mixed company. What they do behind closed doors is anyone’s guess, but you know what? If it bothers you to think about their “butt shit” then DON’T THINK ABOUT IT.

  19. Cave Johnson says:

#75 noname”Do you really have to tell me, a black man about the 50′s or the military??”

Yes apparently I do and “Your Welcome” glad to help.

Voices similar yours said eliminating segregation and discrimination was mistake. Lucky us and lucky you they were wrong. Or was it just PFM that it worked out so well?

and yes my father thinks I’m can be smart ass some times I’m 51 now so I don’t think I’ll grow out of it.

I’m done whit this page now so you can have the last word.
    thank for the dialogue ‘Cave

  20. So what says:

Taking bets that in five years or less nobody’s gonna give a damn about straight or gay. The one question no one seems to be asking. Can they do the job they signed up for?
