An Arizona grandfather says Barnes & Noble discriminated against him and forced him out of a Scottsdale store because he was a male customer sitting alone in the children’s section.

Omar Amin of Scottsdale said he’s still outraged over the May 4 incident and is demanding an apology from the national book retailer…Amin, 73, said he was ousted from the book store after a woman shopper complained to a staff employee, saying she felt uneasy about his presence in the children’s area.

“I did not break any rules,” Amin told msnbc.com on Monday. “There was no sign posted that said men are not allowed in the children’s book area.”

Amin said he had been looking for books to buy for his two grandchildren, ages 7 and 5, when his cell phone rang. He said he sat on the floor by the windows and spoke quietly to a friend, he said…A store employee interrupted his call and said he needed to leave the store…

It never ends, does it?

    1. Maybe he WAS a child molester. He sort of has that look, like my neighbor.

    2. Shoulda been kicked out for sitting in a bookstore talking on a cellphone.

  2. George says:

    1. Is your neighbor a child molester?

    2. Would you kick YOU out of B&N under the same circumstances?

    3. Are you physically or mentally ulgy? Perhaps both?

    • ugly, constipated, and mean says:

I suspect my neighbor of being a child molester. His name is George. Hey, wait a minute…

I think anybody yacking on a cellphone in public should be kicked out of wherever they are.

I am mentally challenging. I have an immeasurably high IQ yet most people who know me only casually probably think I’m autistic. Sometimes I go for days speaking only in movie quotes.

I’m also an excellent driver, and physically I look not unlike Michael Moore (although I have a LOT of hair). So yeah, I’m physically abhorrent.

Please, please, please run for dictator of the world! Please, please, pretty please with sugar on it!

      • Ken says:

I think anyone who complains about cellphones should have their tongue ripped out. I’ll settle for mouth duct-taped on the first offense, though. It’s tiresome to listen to the neo-puritans of the world whine and whinge about modern day conveniences interfering with their boring little lives.

  3. Dallas says:

The bitch is probably from the OMM (One Million Moms) cult..

Anyway, I’ve been to Scottsdale, Az – a conservative enclave north of Phoenix. I’m not surprised. Glad he went out of his way to get in B&N’s face about this.

  4. NobodySpecial says:

He was buying a book? Encouraging a minor to read?
Probably some sort of Godless evolution believing commie.

  5. AdmFubar says:

yes b&n is trying to go out of business. just wait till the unholy alliance with m$ is completed, they wont last a quarter trying to push winphone and win8 tablets

  6. Robert says:

Wasn’t it B&N who said Amazon.com was just a fad?

  7. BigBoyBC says:

Maybe it had something to do with his old-man nutz hanging out of his shorts?

  8. sheila says:

This is called overreaction, pure and simple…and sinful.

  9. The Monster's Lawyer says:

I don’t know about this being an over reaction. If a customer of your store is complaining you have to take them seriously even if it means involving another customer. Let’s say this guy was hanging out in the children’s section for what was percieved by the other customer as an excessive amount of time. The prudent and socially responsible thing for the customer to do is to notify someone working at the store. Same goes for a store employee that notices suspicious behaviour. Since this incident was brought by a customer it is probably better to eject the man and piss him off than to piss the complaining customer off. Either way you go someone’s going to feel dis’d might as well go with the possible perv than the possible overreacting mom.

Now, if no one did anything and it turned out this guy was fishing for little boys, B&N would have been skewered for not looking out for their customers and their customer’s children while in the store.

Disclaimer: I am not an expert, merely a casual googler.

That said, it appears the incidence of pedophilia in the general population is around 0.2% to 0.3%.) The problem is that people react as though the real number were more like 40% to 50%.

  11. The0ne says:

No more BN for me personally. After some nasty and shady business practices and after I sent letters to coporate explaining the situation and gotten basically a “this is run our business” I just said screw you and left it at that.

Cant’ wait until they go under, it won’t be long.

  12. jpfitz says:

    “It never ends, does it?”

No it doesn’t, the righteous are everywhere nowadays.

  13. kmfix says:

What the hell is a book store?

    • Anonymous says:

Apparently, a bookstore is pedophilia central!

Sort of makes you wonder who’s doing the complaining. Right?

    • msbpodcast says:

Its a place which sells books, magazines, videos, flavored condoms in racks and has glory holes in the back.

  14. sheila says:

People are forgetting how to deal with people, it seems that people using their iPhones, iPads and drinking cafe lattes is the closes thing they come to that could be called a human interaction.

Of course the grandpa must have been a perv, he was reading children’s books.

    this is sickening!!

  16. orchidcup says:

The guy does look like a pervert. He should be arrested and questioned.

Sitting on the floor in the children’s book section and talking on a cell phone is definitely suspicious behavior.

  17. From CommieEurope says:

You americans are so much fun.
I hope Mitt Romney is going to further enlighten the planet with american moral and educational standards.

    • Gary Bradski says:

Romney will enlighten the world all right … with neocon bombs until all the money is gone and you can drown America in a bath tub as those guys like to say.

  18. From CommieEurope says:

Bye the way – is there a reason it´s called the land of the brave and the free and not the smart and the clever?

    • Cursor_ says:

Obviously from THIS story it is neither brave nor free.

But the that line is nothing but nationalistic PR.
