Even for someone as masterful at spinning like Rove, this is special, but not surprising.

Mitt Romney lost the election because President Barack Obama engaged in voter suppression, according to Republican political strategist Karl Rove.
[…]
Rove didn’t actually give any examples of ways in which Obama made it harder for people to exercise their constitutional right at the polls — things like voter ID laws, which have been pushed by GOP legislatures around the country. In fact, Obama specifically said in his victory speech that it was unfair that people had to wait in line for hours to vote, which occurred in part because Republicans reduced the time period for early voting.

  1. smartalix says:

The Right always takes their biggest flaw and projects it on their opponents. Rove and his pandering hatemongers got exactly what they deserved. Anti-American racist plutocrats.

  2. bobbo, one true Liberal recognizing Obama is too far Right says:

I heard both Rmoney (Loser) and BushtheRetard (Winner) got 62% of the old white male vote. In fact–there was no suppression at all. simply EVERY OTHER demographic category voting in their own self interest.

    Ha, ha.

I thought Rove did say something like Obama suppressed the vote by pointing out what Rmoney’s policies were?===or was it the lack of policies? Hard to tell the difference.

Silly Hoomans–look admirable compared to the Evil Pukes.

    • Yoni says:

I’m a 65 year old white male from West Virginia (FAR from WV) who did not vote for Romney.

Next, the fiscal cliff. I’m hoping the tea party gets rightly blamed for that. Afterward, our President can lead us forward.

Full disclosure – I voted for Gary Johnson (Libertarian) just because Obama had no chance in the almost stupid-as-WV state I now live in.

Thank (non-existent) g-d many right wing Christians didn’t vote for a member of a church with even crazier fantasies than their own.

      • MikeN says:

Why should Tea Party be blamed for fiscal cliff that does what Obama campaigned on? Asks the wealthy to pay a little more, reasonable cuts in spending. Only difference is that Obama implied it would balance the budget. We have cuts in Medicare payments to doctors, alternative minimum tax takes effect at $50,000, welcome to the 1%!

        • Yoni says:

“Everybody”, but more importantly the NYSE will decide what parts of the fiscal cliff belong to the President and what parts belong to the <10% popular House of Reps.

I have great symphathy for Boehner, he's a good man with an impossible task.

The fiscal cliff will rightly belong to the tea party.

        • So what says:

Because republican senators (28) and reps (174) as well as democrat (95-45) voted for the Budget control act of 2011 which is leading to the fiscal cliff issue. We just couldn’t get here without the GOP. This was the compromise they would accept to raise the debt ceiling.

    Neo Con trash.

  4. Somebody says:

At least we can thank God that Rove is over.

  5. Dallas says:

In the Teapublican bubble, that’s what happened. It shall be said, it shall be done.

  6. Uncle Patso says:

Romney and the Republicans [band name!] campaigned ineffectively, especially Rove. Like old generals, they were prepared to fight the _last_ war.

Obama’s team, like the community organizers they are, organized the heck out of their community and got out the vote. I don’t know why they didn’t run more on the accomplishments of the last four years, but they were effective in portraying Romney as out of touch with most of America.

My take on the election is that the American public is fundamentally still pretty conservative, but decided “This isn’t working — let’s go back the other way just a little.” Thus, Obama wins another term, but the Democrats don’t have a full Congressional majority — whatever they try to do will require some support from the Republican members.

Now if the Republicans continue their tactic of complete and utter obstructionism, even changing their positions to oppose things they have themselves proposed only because Obama said it was a good idea (which has happened several times), they will be seen as petty, vindictive and unwilling to do what is needed to help the country merely for the sake of political gain. This will be to their detriment in the next election.

Over all, I think Obama won by appealing to the political Middle as the more reasonable candidate.

    • The Monster's Lawyer says:

      i agree with your assessment

    • shooff says:

      Concur

    • So what says:

What do you mean “seen as petty, vindictive and unwilling to do what is needed to help the country merely for the sake of political gain.” They are, read the “The New New deal” to see just how petty and vindictive they truly have been.

    • Yoni says:

Bott radio is a a Christian religious network in the midwest with particular presence in Missouri. Their octogenarian Ayatollah warned us today of g-d’s revenge since voters in that state failed to elect Todd Aiken to the US Senate.

Basing a third millennium political party on fundamentalist religious tradition is a losing proposition. Or at least, I hope it continues to lose.

      • So what says:

As a proud Missouri resident who didn’t vote for Akin or Romney, the good reverend can kiss my ass and shove his views up his own.

  7. MikeN says:

So apparently, basic English comprehension is lacking in the readers of this blog. Even worse for it to be lacking in the writer of the article, who pointed out what Rove said, right before he said Rove gave no examples. Just because the left likes to use the term voter suppression, doesn’t mean that they are using it accurately.

    • Cap'nKangaroo says:

Rove’s example of “voter suppression” was the Obama team using attack ads against his opponent. The ads influenced the voter’s perception of who Romney is.

How is this voter suppression? This is basic attack politics going all the way back to the 1800’s.

And to beat all, Karl Rove’s SuperPacs were up to their chins in their own attack ads on President Obama. What a giant HYPOCRITE. The man truly has no shame.

      • MikeN says:

        Voter suppression isn’t necessarily illegal.

        • Captain Obvious says:

          Now that’s true Republican spirit.

        • Cap'nKangaroo says:

I’m still waiting for an explanation of what Rove was talking about other than attack ads. Nothing in the ads interfered with the Republican base being able to cast their vote. That not enough voted for Romney has more to do with demographics than anything else.

And to top it all, the Romney campaign shot itself in the foot with their “Project Orca” campaign. Here is an excerpt from a Romney volunteer:

“So, the end result was that 30,000+ of the most active and fired-up volunteers were wandering around confused and frustrated when they could have been doing anything else to help. Like driving people to the polls, phone-banking, walking door-to-door, etc. We lost by fairly small margins in Florida, Virginia, Ohio and Colorado. If this had worked could it have closed the gap? I sure hope not for my sanity’s sake.

The bitter irony of this entire endeavor was that a supposedly small government candidate gutted the local structure of GOTV efforts in favor of a centralized, faceless organization in a far off place (in this case, their Boston headquarters). Wrap your head around that.”

          • MikeN says:

Yes, it’s the attack ads that Rove is talking about. That is the voter suppression he is referring to. You are just not used to hearing it in a context where the behavior is legal.

Overall turnout was down by many millions from 2008, with Obama losing over 5 million. Population growth would suggest that there should have been 7 million MORE votes.

  8. Captain Obvious says:

Obviously it’s awkward when you’ve spent $400 million of Superpac money and all you got was a spanking. I think you could call this political shrinkage.

  9. noname says:

Rove is the true Republican, a person of overwhelming belief and no intellect for obvious facts or math counter to the agenda.

  10. Constitution reader says:

Actually, voting in a federal election is not a constitutional right.

    • Derechos Ley says:

      Please define your terms.

According to your understanding, is voting in non-federal jurisdictions a right?

      • Constitution reader says:

It depends on the non-federal jurisdiction. Many states’ constitutions make voting in that state a right.

  11. Glenn E. says:

That crafty Obama, doing exactly as the GOP asked, in restricting their own voting. He had them right where they wanted themselves. 🙂 Wait, now I’m confused. What didn’t the GOP want Obama to do, that they pushed thru Congress for him to approve?

    • noname says:

The election only educated Republicans to drive harder in their agenda of much of nothing.

All Republicans will continue as required to endure their long lock step march in propitiating their wealthy benefactors (oligarchs) by adhering blindly to their destructive obstructionist beliefs in hope of financing their next election!

For the rest of U.S. (the 99%) the Republicans are good for nothings! Only those who believe their lies think otherwise.

      • The East is Red says:

I agree with you, but please be careful of stereotypes and political slogans. Some of my close family are Fox/Republican followers but I think they may eventually accept the 21st century. Let’s not make them fear they face the fate of the Romanovs.

“The enemy must be destroyed” is where the GOP has gone wrong.

  13. Yankinwaoz says:

I read that Rove has expanded the definition of “voter suppression” to include attacking your opponent with negative ads. Talk about the pot calling the kettle black. Rove is talking out of his ass, as usual.

The GOP tried to the make the election as a referendum on Obama. But they didn’t offer any viable alternatives other than that party of No.

Also, they only wanted to roll back health laws and place us at the mercy of an out of control medical system. And magically reduce the deficient by cutting taxes and spending more on defense. And who want to keep their fat cat friend on wall street happy.

In a nut shell, they didn’t offer anything better. So I had to hold my nose and vote for Obama.

  14. The0ne says:

When I heard this news on the radio I laughed my ass off. When I heard next that Reps are bickering and arguing against each other I laughed harder. When I heard that some extreme Reps like Limbaugh were delusional and in turn turn regular Reps into the same I laughed and cry with tears.

What a great day it was for news 😀

  15. noname says:

Well, Ham Rove wins another election!!!!

What, wait a minute!…!…! I can hear hot news from off the press;… President Barack Obama is declared the winner of Florida’s 29 electoral votes Saturday.

Ham Rove, lost! I can’t believe it; what went wrong??

Ham Rove Rove, promised every Romney voter a $10 check from the $330 million the Oligarch gave him. Hammy promised Romney would win easily with 285 Electoral College votes!

Did Obama offer voters more money?

When am I getting my check(s)….I voted twice!

  16. shooff says:

Such joy, and most continue to work. No revolt anywhere. In fact, christmas displays in most oligarchs stores. Pilot is having a sale on gas. Go figure….If it were the “end of the world” you’d think that they would fire everyone and keep the wages….Oh, wait it’s not.

Where are Beck and Hannity tonight? Surely in the basement….watching football and counting your money, dumb a**es.

This election demonstrated, Republicanism is a CULT.

1.) A Republican must believe more than reason!
2.) A Republican must follow and not question their leader!
3.) A Republican must not be deswayed or dismayed by outside facts or truths!
4.) A Republican must not have their own convictions like RON PAUL!
5.) A Republican is never wrong, it’s just missed messaging!
6.) A Republican needs much more money than $330 million++++ to spread their gospel and win!!!!
7.) A Republican thinks those “Americans” who don’t agree are evil and not an “American”. Those “non-American” votes must be suppressed and self-deport!!!
8.) A Republican doesn’t believe in object Truth, but; believe only in what people voted for after crafting with MONEY, MESSAGE and MESSENGER!!!
9.) A Republican is never wrong and never needs to compromise!!
