Dubai Police has added a Lamborghini Aventador to its fleet, the force announced on its Twitter feed.

On Wednesday, the official DubaiPoliceHQ feed posted a photo of its latest purchase driving outside Dubai Mall, the world’s biggest shopping centre, and said: “Dubai Police patrols, now at your service.”

The Lamborghini Aventador, named after a bull, is capable of speeds of up to 349km/h and has a price tag of around $400,000…

The Italian-made Lamborghini Aventador will be mostly dispatched to tourist areas to show – in the words of deputy police director General Khamis Matter al-Muzaina – “how classy Dubai is”…

The car is reported to be the crown jewel of a wider upgrade in Dubai police wheels.

The force is also adding some American Camaros…

How cool is this?

How to tell when any entity has too much money.

    Pity the poor people.

  2. That’s a good thing to do! Dubai is famous for its expensive luxury and supercars which are not that easy to chase. lambo will do it easily to arrest the racers.

  3. Dallas says:

The American sheeple sucking on the oil tit is very good for the Dubai police department.

  4. The Monster's Lawyer says:

That ain’t nuthin. We had these back in ’71.
    Cool Cop Car.

First of all, an AMC Javelin is not a Lamborghini.

Second of all, it helps if you get new ones and replacements for your aging fleets, instead of your squad cars eventually looking cancerous because you can’t afford to maintain ’em properly..

  5. moss says:

Javelin always rocked. One of my favorite TV geeks in town is doing a full restoration on one.

  6. Gary Moore says:

The Republic of Panama police also have one, seized from some drug bust a few years back. I have seen it in parades but never on the road “working”. Not really needed as is impossible to outrun radio calls.

  7. DrT says:

Who’s going to start the pool to name the date that Lambo appears on http://www.wreckedexotics.com?

  8. orchidcup says:

The Dubai Police Force is the 15,000 strong police force for the city of Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates … and they cover an area of 4,114 square kilometres and a population of 2,106,177 people.

That is one police officer per 140 citizens, or one police officer per .274 square kilometres.

I would say the United Arab Emirates is a police state as well as a modern monarchy.

  9. super77 says:

I thought Dubai ran out of money, apparently not.

  10. B. Dog says:

Our cops could have those, but it wouldn’t be politically correct or something.

  11. Ryan says:

I’d hate to pay the taxes they pay to support this police force! To the person that said it’s a good thing that they purchased this to chase people that purchase such cars. I think that is rather stupid. If you are rich enough to own a car like this you stop for the police and pay your $200 fine. Only stupid people run from the police. A helicopter would be a much better police vehicle to aid in catching the bad guys. It’s more expensive but much more useful.

    • deowll says:

I don’t think the _citizens_ of Dubai pay taxes. Several oil rich nations actually pay each _citizen_ a living expense. Guest workers are another story.

  12. The0ne says:

    Money well spent.

  13. bobbo, Junior History Buff and general iconoclast says:

How cool is this? /// not at all.

Its amusing to consider what will happen to Dubai in years hence when the artifice of oil revenues finally runs dry. Glass and Steel ghost towns rising into the sky. Camel herders eking out bare existence based on world charity.

I second Super 77. Big Splash on Discovery Channel at least–the building of all those islands and the splooge of investors. Did anyone else sense the Big Con? The Dubai Island land rush? I’ve seen one report that house construction has stopped since the Financial Never Prosecuted Fraud Event of 2008. Nothing since. Just how many RICH people want to live in Dubai??? Can still get arrested for drinking a beer on the day of your divorce. Not very civilized in a drunken christian way.

Still fun to observe the march of History and how nations fare and fall by way of individual personalities, party politics and what not.

What formulation of idiot voters will the RICH lie to and flim flam next to keep their Congress Bought?

    Ya gotta chuckle.

  14. LibertyLover says:

Crockett and Tubbs had fancy cars like that for years.

  15. ECA says:

    1. anyone know the Quality and length of roads in Dubai area??
I dont think they are up to the USA or Europe..

    2. NOTHING BEATS A RADIO.. Calling ahead, and setting road blocks.

    3. A small plane or Helicopter is BETTER.. Speed dont work on inner cities..SPEEd only works if you have ROOM TO RUN..

    • msbpodcast says:

I dont think they are up to the USA or Europe.

Dubai is a fuckin’ flithy rich oil emirate.

You’re paying for their infrastructure every time you get a tankfull.

They have road surveillance, communication and monitoring systems that make your security look anemic.

They can afford roads that make European Autobahn and Autostrata look like rutted cow paths.

I don’t even want to think about finding a fitting comparison with the collection of pot holes we call streets and roads in the ‘States.

  16. Vogie says:

This is actually more common than you think – even in America, Police Departments may have high-end sports cars as pursuit vehicles. Often, these are confiscated from drug dealers or organized crime syndicates then upgraded to police standards.

  17. sargasso_c says:

    A publicity stunt.
