Is this a failure to govern on a high level (ie, just business as usual), or was there a valid reason for Rice, Clinton and others lying in a way that would be easily spotted?

There’s been a lot of smoke in the would-be scandal over the Benghazi attacks, but no real fire yet.

But that may change when three “whistle-blowers” give what Republicans expect to be explosive testimony this week before Rep. Darrell Issa’s House Oversight Committee. The controversy over the September 11, 2012 attack on the U.S. consulate and CIA annex in the Libyan city has smoldered, mainly on the right, but the testimony will likely push it back into the mainstream and could be an enormous distraction for an already injured second-term Obama.

Unlike the vast majority of the new information brought forward by the conservative media since the attack, the three whistle-blowers seem credible.
[…]
While we won’t know exactly what the three will say until they testify Wednesday, some pieces have leaked. Thompson, according to Fox News, is alleging that Secretary of State Hillary Clinton tried to cut out his counterterrorism bureau from the department’s decision-making in responding to the attack. This, Thompson will reportedly allege, was part of the administration’s attempt to downplay the terror connection to the attack.

Here’s another article on what is expected to be said.

  1. MikeN says:

Why did they feel the need to publicly arrest a videomaker after the attack?

    • Tim says:

White House initiated DMCA take-down request??

    • CrankyGeeksFan says:

If you’re referring to the “The Innocence of Muslims”, it was because the filmmaker violated terms of his 2010 probation regarding his use of aliases.

      • MikeN says:

But why the public takedown with lots of armed agents? He was clearly chosen for political reasons. The government choosing to arrest you because it makes things easier for the people in power, is that what you want?

        • CrankyGeeksFan says:

No, I don’t want a government that can choose to arrest someone in order to make things easier for people in power.

          But…

He did violate the terms of a federal probation, and the judge sentenced him to a year in prison.
The question should be is the technique for the arrest out of the ordinary for a federal probation violator.

  2. bobbo, one true Liberal recognizing Obama is too far Right says:

Forget Obama. Its an early strike against Hilary. I hope it works as she is the worst puffed up piece of self dealing political garbage that has captured the Political stage since……well….. they are all garbage, truth be told.

As always, it will come down to choosing the least evil among the worst of the caboodle.

    Same as it always was.

………….so….. why did “we” lie so obviously?? Its Clinton. She has grown into people eating her sh*t as if it was ice cream: dodging bullets while landing, hardest working Sect State, a champion of women’s rights everywhere.

Its just crap from top to bottom.

    • ± says:

People hiring evil (“least evil” is evil) is why we have what we have.

      Thank you. <—— sarcasm

      • bobbo, the reincarnation of Sun Tzu with a dash of Machiavelli all just a manisfestation of anyone who is pragmatic and existential and cares not about the gods intervening as they seem not to says:

Hey P/M==I knew like swinging a black cat over my head I was calling you forth with that one. Still haven’t figured out what “selecting the least evil” means have you!

Amusing. “The Irrelevant Party.” Do you have a formal paid position or is this inanity totally volunteer?

        • ± says:

You prattle on about selecting the “least evil”, then you say you don’t know what that means.         So which is it? <——- rhetorical question, since the answer is that you are just trolling.

        • bobbo, the pragmatic existential evangelical anti-theist says:

Two masters of the partial quote.

          What douche bags.

Ooops. Sorry===I shouldn’t be so negative. Could more innocently be just an attention span thing.

          Still douches though.

    • Gwad his own self says:

Vince Foster shot himself 8 times in the back. Really.

    • Captain Beyond says:

I wonder what Joe B is thinking about this.

  3. deowll says:

Nothing’s going to happen. The main stream media has got Obama’s back and you aren’t going to hear jack about this.

Have you heard anything about the abortion clinic trial? No and you aren’t going to no even here because there is an agenda.

    • Mextli says:

I used to dismiss the idea of the MSM having an agenda but then I started to notice trends like the list of CNN articles below. Now I believe they ALL manipulate the news to support their mostly liberal agenda.

Is ‘Alpha House’ parody of GOP on target?
      GOP and NRA’s love fest
A GOP path to black votes
GOP off to a bad start for 2016
      GOP’s cowardly gun filibuster threat

      • Tim says:

… Was Beiber really lip-syncing after that fake fan-tackle in Dubai?? … Enquiring minds don’t give a bloody fuck.

      • bobbo, the reincarnation of Sun Tzu with a dash of Machiavelli all just a manisfestation of anyone who is pragmatic and existential and cares not about the gods intervening as they seem not to says:

It can’t be said too often: “The truth has a liberal bias.”

        Ha, ha.

        Stoopid Repukes.

      • Hyph3n says:

It’s because no one except for the Right cares. The discussion isn’t “what could we have done better to rescue these people.” It’s “Hillary didn’t use the word “‘terrorists.'” Really? You think that is going to bring down the house?

No one cares. Or more precisely, people would care if the Republican had been a functioning part of the government for the last 4 years. Now it’s just another vendetta.

      • MikeN says:

MSNBC admitted that they would have had a field day of Harpootlians comment against Indian female governor of South Carolina if the parties were switched.

  4. Captain Obvious says:

Wow, there is a an actual, honest to God circle going on between Fox News and the House Republicans on this.

The whole argument is pretty weak. And, 12 years into the “War on Terror” means most Americans really don’t care about Benghazi and will turn off when it comes up. This stuff is right out of the 2004 Bush campaign.

    • LibertyLover says:

I’m a veteran and I care. We left our brothers to die because, well, because Obama’s a pussy.

And I’m not left or right; I’m Libertarian.

      Will anything come of this?

Not a frakking thing because the MSM is afraid of being disinvited from any upcoming White House social functions.

      • Captain Obvious says:

I come from a military family and grew up on a base. And what I care about is veterans getting jobs, getting the opportunity work through any disabilities they have, and having a home to come back to. That is a real issue.

There is lots of bread and butter issues out there. Weak, media driven conspiracy theories aren’t helping anybody.

        • LibertyLover says:

People don’t join the military with that in mind when they get out.

        • deowll says:

I’m glad that you are concerned about the welfare of vets. I’m kind of surprised that you think it’s okay that your government thinks the help is 100% expendable since you were once part of the help.

Does it bother you that many of the people running DHS think that vets are a security risk and that they should be de facto considered dangers to society and not allowed to own firearms?

      • bobbo, the ONLY true Libertarian on this blog, all others being dogmatic posers says:

Everything bad in this world is caused by Obama.

But I’m not left or right, because I got a C+ on my book report on Ann Rands “I’m a self centered Atheist, and You Can To” seminal work on how to be a completely self centered jerk of interest to no one but pimply faced future Teapublicans.

        So now…. I am one.

Ha, ha. Silly High School dreebs and their false confidence gained by grading on the curve.

So—whats it gonna be? Booger reference, bridge troll, or a simple shut up?

        BWHAHAHAHAHA.

  5. bobbo, the reincarnation of Sun Tzu with a double helping of Machiavelli all just a manisfestation of anyone who is pragmatic and existential when the issue of Religion dominating a Culture is raised says:

pedro making baby steps which at the start is all that can be expected says:
    5/6/2013 at 4:40 pm

I’ll only grant you point 2 even though that’s not government related but nature related. /// Thats good. So not “everything” is Obama’s fault. Thats a start.

    1) A botched false flag from beginning to end. //// What was the false flag? You can’t identify one because there isn’t one. So–ObamaGod not responsible for act of nature but he is responsible according to you and F**kface von Clownstick for all international politics and history. Prove me wrong: NAME THE FALSE FLAG.

3)Public education, need I say more? /// Everyone knows education is a local issue more than State, more than Fed. Yes you can quibble about funding sources–still a local source. Remind us Pedo==were you public schooled or a Catholic Charities Failure case?

Keep going. My asides are for my own pleasure.

Thanks for playing Dumbbo but too much posting and listening to PBS & NPR have taken a toll on you.

  6. MikeN says:

After the Olympic bombing in Atlanta, they didn’t want anything interfering with the message of peace and security, so they publicly labeled as the bomber, Richard Jewell, a guy who actually saved lives in helping with an evacuation before the bomb went off.

Now, we see them publicly arresting a videomaker to maintain a message of Al Qaeda is destroyed.

  7. CrankyGeeksFan says:

The real Benghazi issue is the banning of the post-Qaddafi Libyan government of foreign security contractors. For most of the world, the U.S. State Department must give preference to the lowest bidder for its security contracts. The consulate was guarded by the Welsh contractor, Blue Mountain. Their Libyan employees were equipped with only batons and flashlight and received little or no weapons training.

With al-Qaeda linked foreign fighters and weapons in Libya and Syria, I wouldn’t be surprised if there isn’t an Iran-Contra situation that could ensnare the U.S. government.

    • MikeN says:

It wasn’t a real consulate. The whole thing was a CIA operation. According to Petraeus’s mistress, they had captured an operative.

  8. Phydeau says:

It’s so heartening to see red-blooded Americans on the trail of injustice in the Benghazi affair.

However, could y’all do me a favor and google “embassy attacks during bush administration” and get yer dander up about those too?

You’re not even bothering to hide your right-wing bias any more.

    • MikeN says:

No ambassadors killed, and no White Housed refusal to send protection. On top of that you had Dvorak.org posts complaining about the high level of security at the embassies the US was building.
