Awesome! This gives the song a realistic perspective. Too bad NASA isn’t getting video royalties (more likely David Bowie is going to sue NASA for copyright infringement and bankrupt them)!

By far, the most expensive music video ever made!

      Expensive“?! Do tell.

Is it possible that you don’t think an astronaut is allowed to have some personal time off? Or maybe you think he should leave the ISS when his work is done or while on a break.

Any “expense” I can see would be for whatever fuel it took to get that guitar up there so he could then play it. It might be more interesting to know if he may have left other personal property behind like maybe 4 T-shirts in order to offset the weight of that guitar.

Ok, yes-yes, I was speaking rather loosely. Silly me, I didn’t mean it as a government waste indictment; but, I understand how it can read that way!

If you want to an accountants break down, here’s my best shot: A typical acoustic guitar weighs around 5-7 lbs. It costs about $10,000 per pound of weight to launch something into orbit. That works out to be $50,000 to $70,000.

There may be other expenses? I am only counting the guitar payload costs.

I am sure astronauts are allowed so many pounds of permissible personal items each may take and this guitar may fall well under that.

They should fly Bowie to the station for a gig.

    • JA says:

Bowie doesn’t need to fly anywhere. He’s been flying since the SIXTIES!

      • sargasso_c says:

Ha! Yes, or Bowie stands still. And the World revolves around him.

    The astronaut is now Mtv

  9. Glenn E. says:

Hey kids! You too can grow up to become a guitar strumming yahoo astronaut. Whose job apparently is to entertain, and make the next generation believe that there’s a future in space, guitar playin. All at the taxpayers’ expense. Making this also the world’s most expensive Canadian music video. Even more so than Thriller.

  10. Captain Obvious says:

Chris Hadfield has generated more interest in our exploration of space than anything else since Apollo. He shows why humans need to be in space.

  11. Muddauber says:

Was this really videoed from space?
