London (CNN) — UK officers have identified 38 “people of interest” in connection with the disappearance six years ago in Portugal of British toddler Madeleine McCann, the Metropolitan Police said Thursday.

McCann disappeared while her family was on vacation on the Algarve coast in 2007. She was a few days shy of her 4th birthday at the time she vanished from the family’s holiday apartment in Praia da Luz.

UK officers who have spent two years reviewing the initial investigations into her disappearance have found “new findings and new witness evidence,” a police statement said. “Our review has now progressed to a position where we have identified 38 persons of interest.”

Twelve of those are UK nationals who the police believe were in Portugal at the time the girl went missing.

All the others are European nationals. Metropolitan Police officers are talking to authorities in other countries to get more information about them and their potential involvement, the statement said.

“We continue to believe that there is a possibility that Madeleine is alive,” said Detective Chief Inspector Andy Redwood, who heads the team.

If police had spent as much time and energy pursuing the pedophile theory as they did blaming the parents, there’s a good possibility they would have uncovered a ring and saved not only this kid but many others as well. But I guess there were just too many powerful people involved to spark their interest.

I posted this back in 2008.

An appalling case and an example of why parents need to be ever vigilant when on holiday. Resort “security” is invariably a joke and sometimes a security hazard in itself.

    • Tim says:

Well. I’ve now tainted my objectivity by Cliff’s-Noting via consensus Wikipedia but:

The staff at the tapas restaurant had left a note in a staff message book asking that the same table – which overlooked the apartments – be block-booked for 20:30 every evening for the group the McCanns were travelling with. The message said the children were asleep in the apartments; Kate has wondered whether the abductor saw this note in the staff book, which was left at the swimming-pool reception area.

Is that not what Facefuck and Twatter are for? Seems to me this kind of thing would happen with greater frequency now than then or did all the ‘for the children’ acts of violence upon privacy and communication bare some fruit?

      • Tim says:

To drill down with that just a bit; No security camera footage of who had perused those logs??

  2. bobbo, how do you know what you know, and how do you change your mind says:

I’m happy to see my comments from 5 years ago (YIKES!) were right on as always.

Conflation…the creation of false choices. Always a bugaboo.

Absent direct info–seems to me there is room enough in this world for not only the accidental death of a child by loving parents who covered it up AND a Belgium Pedophile ring operating for quite some time.

My REAL ISSUE–a four year old is a “young child” in pedophile circles? They seem like babies to me. Some of those pedophiles must be really disgusting people….. like out of fiction almost.

    Pedro?

    • Tim says:

I’m up for a good mystery. {opps, too soon?} .. Bounce some shit off me that is composed of anything of relevance to this case or something new that can be gleened from this ‘release’.

I’m serious. I’m gonna pretend to be ‘Monk’ and every one else here to, please.. or am I gonna have to troll /b over at 4chan?

      • bobbo, how do you know what you know, and how do you change your mind says:

I got no shit to bounce. Primarily all these murder mysteries come down to the “facts” which are what they are–but unknown to us all. so any real discussion should proceed on stated assumptions and hypotheticals, something this forum like every other group of hoomans proves inadequate to do. But EVEN THEN, the subject of murder mysteries bores me. Yes, shit happens which usually causes more shit.

Hypothetically: this kiddie was loved and well treated by her parents but she dies from accident or a rare isolated instance of neglect. I say: the parents suffer enough by the loss of their child. Is blindfolded Justice allowed to provide such Jusctice, Mercy, and Individualized application of the law (no mens rea)–or is she too afraid to be called out for providing white upper class two standards of the law?

BTW–I think I’ve seen flutter-by before. Did you recall it, or think it up anew?

        • Tim says:

They should never ever shake a baby, bobbo. Or give it vaccines and have a reaction that makes the brain look like one ‘ shook a baby’. I also think that this was before the time that people were worried {had a clue} about the govment saying that a shaken baby is what is to cover up the shots.

In fact, I feel {in no way, scientifically, and, as for the parents, I know nothing} that those parents would have screamed bloody murder if that child had died in their presence — whether they were shitty parents and something they did caused the death, or not.

          continue…

        • Tim says:

I learned the term ‘Spoonerism’ from a made-4-tv-movie: Cold Lazarus

          http://imdb.com/title/tt0115140/

‘flutter-by’ immediatly came to mind; But, I’m quite sure it is like *water is fun* came to mind that the first kid to hit the ocean thought he was that astronaught dude what thought One-Giant-Step, and all.

          • bobbo, how do you know what you know, and how do you change your mind says:

Ive never read a review that made me less want to see a movie. Looks like made for Sy-Fy…even if before its time?

You post a lot of links…. you do the “work” that is so often lacking in the postings made here.

            A mole rodel for sure.

          • Tim says:

O.K. That sounded kind of retarded… No more auto-correct for me.

          • Tim says:

It was the legacy of a guy who succummed to pancreatic cancer… That guy what wrote ‘Pennies from Heaven’.

What’s up with having to back up and remove the ‘www’?? how many keystrokes have I wasted these last days??

          • bobbo, how do you know what you know, and how do you change your mind says:

I’m confused about what you really want to draw attention to but your second link indicated it was a British Series…. so I went “there” and found this enticement:

“Cold Lazarus is a television play written by Dennis Potter with the knowledge that he was dying from cancer of the pancreas. Potter was racing against the clock to finish Lazarus before he died. It is funny, weird, mysterious and profound — a rare combination for any medium. It helps to know a bit of Potter’s bio to fully appreciate the depth of this accomplishment.

A great moment comes when slimy TV producer Siltz exults in the opportunity to own a writer’s mind (literally) in order to exploit it. Just can imagine the smile on Potter’s face when he first conceived that scene, seeing it as a metaphor for his showbiz struggles with the Siltzes of the world.

Anyone who appreciates great writing will love this. Dennis Potter wrote a brilliant script about his own death. It is doubtful anyone will top his feat for a long time.”

If you pick and choose, there is not enough time to spend with excellent tv, books…. ideas.

            I must be a jag-off.

        • Tim says:

Are you suggesting that in a proper God-engineered world, Lady Justice would consider asylum, pardon, and catharsis?

That is something I’d like to see those clowns in gowns discuss for real.

          • bobbo, how do you know what you know, and how do you change your mind says:

            In broad view… yes.

Directly on point: accidental deaths of kiddies should be a bout of mandatory grief counseling for otherwise “mostly” innocent parents. NOT JAIL.

Our society is barbaric in so many ways.

          • Tim says:

What is wrong with this posting format that I can’t reply to you directly but only to myself?? I hate to say it but “Get off my lawn you role model, wait, what?”

        • Tim says:

Say McCullough–I know you are man enough to take it…. but… I feel bad your thread has been hijacked. It seems there is not much to say/discuss when you state a simple truth.

But I do want to make the record that I also support the notion that innocent parents should not be investigated when the crime is committed by an international ring of Pedro’s.

…..and it seems no one else disagrees either. Did you have anything different in mind?

    • bobbo, how do you know what you know, and how do you change your mind says:

Ha, ha. PURE COINCIDENCE!!! Or let me rant on Mc: Great minds do run on the same tracks? -or- you could have provided “more.”

I deleted your your stupid anti-southern post because it is totally irrelevant to the conversation.

        • bobbo, how do you know what you know, and how do you change your mind says:

It was anti Southern only in footnote. But I agree. What to do when no one wants to comment on the OP?

          You have raised two issues:

          1. Perhaps unfair focus on the parents

          2. Perhaps incompetent failure to focus on the Pedro Ring.

Of the two, which do you think would bring greater profit? I wish I could post my answer somewhere before you do or don’t respond…. as your answer has practically been given already….. as has been my repost. Interesting sword play if we had any protective equipment?

    • Tim says:

Cough, cough… {do not repeat this} (very subdued) “Hear, hear! I feel dirty.

  5. McCullough says:

“What to do when no one wants to comment on the OP?”

Well that seems fairly obvious, even for you. Shut your fucking pie-hole for a change.

        Just as it should be.

  6. MikeN says:

Pedophilia should not be a crime. According to the American Psychiatric Association, children are not necessarily harmed by pedophilia. Really it’s just an alternate lifestyle that has a long history going back to Afghanistan and Pakistan and ancient Greece.

    • Tim says:

“Bee e ee ky… get in the barn ’cause I don’t trust that fella.”

    • orchidcup says:

Cannibalism is also an alternative lifestyle practiced in several cultures through the ages.

It is illegal in some countries but technically legal in the USA.

  7. bobbo, one true liberal beating conservative lies since high school detention says:

Mickey is still a dipshit but as often occurs raises a good point if only by accident. YES–I agree very little psychic trauma caused by the molestation itself. GREAT trauma thereafter caused by everyone else’s reaction to it. The balance in any given case subject to great variety with the take home lesson: try not to damage your kiddie (or your wifey) when challenging issues are placed before you. That, and string up every pedophile by his balls once they are caught. Whats that? FEMALE PEDOPHILES?==Why that is just a mothers healthy love flowing over. Not the same thing at all. Now, put that stick back where it belongs.

Orchi–is that a typo or do you truly have something upsetting to say?

  8. Mr Diesel says:

My Son was molested as a young child by his mother’s boyfriend’s brother. The pedophile died in a fire. Karma is a bitch.

Now think back everyone over the last tens years. How many of these cases have turned out to be one or both the parents? Too many. Whenever I see one on the news my first thought is always parents.

    • bobbo, the pragmatic existential evangelical anti-theist says:

How much deeper would your understanding be if you included Pedro Rings in your analysis?

  9. MikeN says:

Pedophilia should be accepted was the backdrop for the Joe Paterno railroading. He was reluctant to engage the molester directly, because it is thought of as homophobic to challenge any aspect of the gay lifestyle.

        • bobbo, kicking retarded ass whenever they balance on their hind legs and yelp says:

Nextlie–what is it about “Rainbow” that puts you off? I didn’t notice that when on the first page of my google response that link looked like the most “academic” one as opposed to more pedestrian blogs and special interest groups. Looking at the home page of the link/sponsoring entity—-it is.

Odd the kid has a torn iris. That is usually caused by getting the crap knocked out of you.

    • Tim says:

It is not torn. It is a very specific type of ‘coloboma’ and a very unique and fetching birth-mark, in her case.

      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coloboma

      • deowll says:

I blew it up real big and it still looks just like the torn retina a lady I know got as the result of an accidental blow to the face when she was a kid.

        • deowll says:

My bad. I should have said iris.

          • bobbo, the spirit breaking Grammar Jew hiding under the floor boards says:

The kiddies name is Madeleine. Let’s have some respect from the missing…. if not the dead!

        • Tim says:

Within my limited focus on the subject at hand, there are basically three types of ‘colobomas’.

There is the mole-type, the hole-type, and the mottled pigmented type.

Now, the first one I can speak to as I just happen to have one that has formed over these past many years on my retina — It gives a little smudge of diminished acuity, from time to time; But only I can sense it by seeing less.

As for the mottled-pigment type; Well, then, I can speak for that also — Just in case one happens to fall in love with some girl that has that kind of ‘blemish’ then never ever include in a poem a reference to “hue-changing hair and beauty-stained eye” because she is already self-conscious about it and will just have a tragic mis-understanding. That is, unless one would rather be eternally betrothed to Fail in, which case, I can be of assistance.

Hers is of the ‘hole type’ so that it either occured in the womb or the doctor had a serious case of palsy because it is kind of hard to shake a 3-year-old that hard after the fact.

I’m looking at some things about this. I may have more to say in the near future but, for now, its kind of remeniscent of http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Natalee_Holloway

Only, in Madeline’s case, no one bothered to verify that she was not slurping jello-shooters off the navels of her Kid’s Club playmates. What a glaring omission. What sloppy detective work in limiting the scope of the investigation; I mean, they got everything else right ‘by the book’ and all.

          • bobbo, the spirit breaking Grammar Jew hiding under the floor boards says:

I assume “Your lady parts smell like red snapper” wouldn’t go over well either?

Studley! There’s something wrong with meh headphones!

        • Tim says:

Try this. Be unexperienced and build a camp fire ringed with water-saturated sandstone. Dayum! I did not really expect you to be able to initiate combustion in an environment made out of saturated sandstone; But, seeing how you managed to do so — that large slit in your pupil is now an ‘coloboma’.

  11. jpfitz says:

I don’t believe the public at large is aware of a pedo ring. Glad to hear somethings are brought to the light of day.

Where’s everyone? Pretty much a bobbo and Tim conversation. Hopefully everybody else is on vacation, I like to have positive thoughts that some of us are out vacationing and enjoying the beauty of summer.
