SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Two Utah men already facing possible criminal charges for purposely toppling an ancient rock formation in a state park have now been removed from their posts as Boy Scout leaders. A northern Utah Boy Scouts council announced Monday that Glenn Taylor and Dave Hall will no longer be allowed to lead scouting troops due to what happened Oct. 11 at Goblin Valley State Park, which they filmed and posted on Facebook.asshole+merit+badge

The move comes on the heels of the national Boy Scouts of America condemning the men’s actions last week and promising a review of the incident. The Boy Scouts’ Utah National Parks Council posted a statement on its website saying the men’s actions are not in line with the principles the organization teaches about preserving nature.

“We encourage all leaders and Scouts to review the ‘Leave No Trace’ principles, as we are all a part of maintaining the integrity, character and the natural beauty of the outdoors for all living things,” the statement said.

The rock formation they toppled over is about 170 million years old, Utah State Parks spokesman Eugene Swalberg said. The central Utah park is dotted with thousands of the eerie, mushroom-shaped sandstone formations.

If only the rock had rolled the other way, we’d be talking about a different award.

    F@#king morons

  2. Tim says:

“It was coming right at me.”

  3. Captain Obvious says:

    It’s Utah.

  4. HUGSaLOT says:

Who gives a fuck about what the boyscouts think. I was expecting the gubberment to slap a fine on these guys.

  5. MikeN says:

Is this had been a federal park, Obama would have had the park rangers arrest them for recreating.

    • Jon says:

I nominate MikeN for one of those merit badges.

      • noJ says:

        I nominate Bobbo!

        • bobbo, we think with words, and flower with ideas says:

OUCH!!! Woe unto me….. but so “unfair” as most unconscionable viscious attacks are: IF I were to have a religion (besides being honest) it would be SCIENCE as our guide and dogma in life. Kinda a seeing eye dogma if you know what I mean. If not those two though as both are above what 95% of hoomans are capable of, THEN I would go with Mother Gaia! Make a religion of taking care of Mother Earth.

Then I could only say: SACRILEGE!!!

But rather than sin, the violation of Holy Principles is but to……….. dither.

          Yea, verily!

  6. UncDon says:

But these guys were protecting little boys from injury!

  7. lakeaccess says:

It’s just a rock, and the people are a part of nature, right?

I don’t understand the “Oooh, they hurt a rock” people…Do they know what Glaciers do?

    • dusanmal says:

Finally some sense in comments… ‘Scouts – OK, they are private group who can set limits they want. General population complaining about literally pushing a rock in nature – bunch of controlling morons.

      • MikeN says:

That means this rock is a movable impediment, right?

      • Hyph3n says:

Had he taken a chain saw into the Redwood National Forest, would you feel the same?

The dude should be fined, do some community service and kicked out as a Boy Scout leader. The worse part is that he is a scout leader. Like that organization needs another black eye… especially when “Leave No Trace” is a huge part of the BSA.

      • Pardon me while I start filling in the Grand Canyon. It’s literally filling in a hole in nature. I did it all the time when I was a little kid so it’s ok.

  8. Haymoose says:

If it had been a National Park the Chinese would have fined them for damaging property of the “People’s Republic.”

  9. Tom McArdle says:

Leave No Trace: Take only Photographs. Leave only Foot Prints.

    • Tim says:

That’s what I would tell the cavers. Then, some years later, I would view every one of those mud-balls stuck all over the walls and feel blessed for the memories that followed of those I chastisied then; Cave modified — Written in time. We are punks not to appreciate the time-capsule those youth write for us– Hell, they used to just tear everything out to make gunpowder.

  10. Alex says:

    Murica!

  11. Mook says:

These guys are nothing new in Utah…Ask any National Park Ranger in Moab, UT…Utah Boy Scouts have little or no respect for nature. The adults are the worst.

  12. Cap'n Kangaroo says:

This pillar of the community who pushed over the rock formation in the video filed suite in September over a car accident that occurred in 2009. He is claiming “serious, permanent and debilitating injuries”.

Hope that fattass teabagger boyscout cocksucker gets charged with a felony for vandalizing a state park.

A typical response from the reigning fascist regime.
Unfit fat white guy pushes over small rock – national outrage in all the headlines.

  14. JimD says:

These MAROONS can demonstrate their knowledge of knots and rigging as they are COMPELLED TO RESTORE THE NATURAL MONUMENT they destroyed !!! Hoist away, boys, and don’t drop that rock on your foot !!!

  15. Glenn E. says:

This Scout Master obviously has an inferiority complex. So he has to knock down anything that stands, bigger and uglier than he is. So he’s king of the fat ugly hill. The Scout really ought to have a screening process, to weed out these out of shape, examples of non-fitness and warped egos. How is anyone like this guy, an inspiration of growing minds. “Hey, kids. Be a big fat jerk like me, and you’ll go places.” Yeah, that’s the sort you want as youth leaders. Not.

  16. jpfitz says:

Ah, just a mound of dirt pushed over by a fathead. Death threats, really?

    • jpfitz says:

On second thought, the dipshit is suing for some injury and,

“filed a personal injury suit last month over a 2009 car crash that he claimed left him “debilitated,” with “great pain and suffering, disability, impairment, loss of joy of life.”

      Screw him.
Fine him and top off with community service.

    • bobbo, the One Great Liberal looking forward to America going Total Socialist says:

The Death Penalty SHOULD BE considered for posters who link to/conflate unrelated issues. Hippies high on weed crying over a dead tree: not the same as white trash toppling million year old protuberances from Mother Gaia.

I’d be satisfied with a Democratic vote.

  17. William says:

For this finely balanced rock formation to have survived 170 million years without being toppled by an incidental earthquake is almost inconceivable. Park rangers in this quoted text appear to suggest that it has withstood the ravages of time while enjoying such a precarious position on the landscape. I’m sorry, but these folks exhibit a distinct propensity to throw around assorted geologic guesstimates like Tootsie Rolls at a parade…

    • bobbo, the One Great Liberal looking forward to America going Total Socialist says:

Its a process over a long period of time. Many have toppled, all will eventually topple. Inconceivable….. or unavoidable?

  18. OMG says:

Losers, get a freaking life. You sit at your computors moaning and pissing like old irrlevant bitty’s. blah blah blah blah
