For the last 8 years Republicans did everything they could to make sure Obama failed, even when they agreed with what he wanted. Now the Republicans control the government and they are in charge of making America great rather than making America miserable. And in the last 8 year we went from total economic collapse to doing reasonably well.

Now that Trump is tinkering with Obamacare it is now Trumpcare. If they screw it up it’s on them. And if the Dems won’t help them, that’s on them too. There is an opportunity for Trump to really improve Trumpcare if they remove the law that prohibits the government from negotiating lower drug prices with the big drug companies. But I doubt Trump is man enough to go after Big Pharma the way he goes after women and poor Mexicans. In my mind that will be the real test to see if he’s serious or just some big blowhard clown. But now if Republicans break it, Republicans own it.

I’ve not paid a great deal of attention, but if I recall Berkley has had several “out-of-control” rallies in the last 18 months or so.

One, they were harassing students who tried to break a blockade to get to class. I do not recall what the issue was.

In the case of the University of Missouri, once they cracked down on the faculty the problem was over.

How does putting the school out of business address Milo being a White Racist Troll?

And note: Berkeley did not prevent him from speaking (as I understand it). It just advised the Hitler Youth that his safety could not be guaranteed and Milo put his tail between his legs and ran while blaming “liberals” of course.

I remember the days when Black Panthers went to the podium to speak surround by a phalanx of police to keep the crowd from attacking them.

Free speech means the government does not stop you from speaking. Not that what you say won’t get you killed. Speech is Speech, Money is Speech, a violent and disapproving response is also Speech…. of a sort.

So if I complain about the Democrats a lot, it is because I feel there isn’t a political party that represents liberal values any more (think Howard Dean, Mike Dukakis, Joe Biden, Ed Rendell).

The ACA is a scam. I paid for my own insurance as a self-employed person for over a decade changing it when I found a plan I liked better. Than ACA came along and promised if you like it you can keep it. Lie. We were forced to join the now corrupt and failed Oregon Health care, and we lost our plan and our cost monthly went up over 70%.

What you both, and most others, fail to recognize is that your condition “most likely”, as there are exceptions, would be WORSE NOW without the ACA. THE REASON ACA is “bad” however you might think is because thats what the Pukes demanded in order to get their support.

What should you see, note, and live by in the above: no conflation. Overlapping issues can be separated.

          Something a shill rarely does.

          • MikeN says:

Universities should expel at a lower standard than criminal action. If you are interfering with the free speech of others, then punishment is reasonable. If you are engaged in sit-ins and the like, disrupting the university, punishment is reasonable as well. Peaceful demonstrators should be left alone. However, if U Oklahoma could expel frat brothers who sang a song about keeping niggers out of their frat, then they can certainly expel people for occupying the President’s office.

The current state of politics is mostly the fault of John McCain and the stupid (failed) campaign finance reform law he advocated.

    1) McCain/Feingold campaign finance reform passed
    2) Citizens United ruling essentially allows unlimited corporate money
    3) Both parties become corporate shills
    4) Big media goes full-throttle mega-corp
    5) Big media becomes spokesperson for corporate interests
    6) Democrats become shill spokesperson for corporate interests
    7) “Democrats” pick #1 corporate shill Hillary Clinton for nominee (outsourcing, immigration, Wall Street speeches)
    8) Hillary can’t win blue collar states that got screwed, hello President Trump.

Current state: Democrats can’t talk about “the issues” any more, because the big money sponsors with their hands up the Democrats puppets’ rear-end doesn’t want that.

Democrats have 1 issue on their side: climate change.

And in the current environment, because Democrats no longer discuss issues, they just talk about “Trump”.

Which is great, but you need to bring something to the table.

If the Democrats filibuster Gorsuch for the Supreme Court, the Democratic Party is done — because the Republicans will eliminate the filibuster, then all hell will break loose and the Democrats become bystanders.

Which is why they won’t fillibuster Gorsuch.

Meanwhile, other than climate change, where is a ray of hope for the Democratic Party? In 2018, they’ll probably lose 5 more Senate seats.

And things could get worse for the Democrats: Hillary Clinton running for mayor of New York City would be a doomsday scenario.

She’d become the face of the Democratic Party for the next 8 years or so.

(Remember, Trump was the least popular candidate of all time. Incompetent Hillary spent $1.2 billion and managed to lose to this unpopular guy even in 3 solid Democratic states. She’s not the right person to be high profile for the Democratic Party.)

Can the Democratic Party correct course?

They are on the wrong side of almost every issue. The Republicans were defeated by Trump so they have to moderate themselves for a while.

    • MikeN says:

What do you mean it’s a disaster? Hillary wouldn’t just be the face of the party. She would be the presumed frontrunner. Dems must fall into line and accept her as the nominee. Any faults she has must be covered up and defended. So if she is mayor, Dems will say she is the best mayor in the world. If she is a talk show host, they must all tune in, to give her high ratings.

The jobs they hold might otherwise be held by citizens or legal immigrants. The public service they use impose burdens on our taxpayers. That’s why our administration has moved aggressively to secure our borders more by hiring a record number of new border guards, by deporting twice as many criminal aliens as ever before, by cracking down on illegal hiring, by barring welfare benefits to illegal aliens. In the budget I will present to you, we will try to do more to speed the deportation of illegal aliens who are arrested for crimes, to better identify illegal aliens in the workplace as recommended by the commission headed by former Congresswoman Barbara Jordan. We are a nation of immigrants. But we are also a nation of laws. It is wrong and ultimately self-defeating for a nation of immigrants to permit the kind of abuse of our immigration laws we have seen in recent years, and we must do more to stop it.”

Ruh-roh… Republicans fear for their safety as Obamacare protests grow

    http://www.politico.com/story/2017/02/republicans-obamacare-protests-safety-234733

House Republicans during a closed-door meeting Tuesday discussed how to protect themselves and their staffs from protesters storming town halls and offices in opposition to repealing Obamacare, sources in the room told Politico.

House GOP Conference Chairwoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers invited Rep. David Reichert, a former county sheriff, to present lawmakers with protective measures they should have in place. Among the suggestions: having a physical exit strategy at town halls, or a backdoor in congressional offices to slip out of, in case demonstrations turn violent; having local police monitor town halls; replacing any glass office-door entrances with heavy doors and deadbolts; and setting up intercoms to ensure those entering congressional offices are there for appointments, not to cause chaos.

Of course they fear for their safety. They’re afraid the constituents will do what Republican protesters did:

Protesters have disrupted town halls and other public events, jeering and yelling at Republicans just as conservatives did to Democrats when they were writing the law eight years ago. Conservative protesters in 2009 and 2010 were accused of spitting on and hurling racial epithets at Democratic lawmakers ahead of their votes to pass Obamacare.

    • NewFormatSux says:

That was a lie told by John Lewis. Because of his prior good acts, people believed him.

      Occupy Wall Street or something?

      How’d that turn out?

“Democrats” rallying in big cities that already vote “Democrat” is preaching to the choir.

Preaching to the choir is what losers do. The reason is because preaching to the choir is easy, it doesn’t require change.

Change is what is hard. And if the “Democrats” want to win elections, they have to have a positive agenda.

Climate change is important but appears to be the only Democratic Party issue I can identify.

    • hmeyers says:

Most interesting quote I’ve read lately:

“You’re not going to like this part: the president, under the law, is exempt from conflict of interest laws,” Chaffetz told the loudly protesting crowd.

Don’t claim to know how the laws work.

      • bobbo, there is usually some good even in bad experiences says:

I’ve heard that a number of times now myself……….but ………. most conflicts of interest also involve receiving a personal benefit, and that is still illegal.

Surprised someone isn’t pushing on Trump owning that Government Post Office turned into a Hotel deal. Like Kellyann Conway: a clear and direct violation.

All we need is some enforcement….. even I would allow time for Trump to sell it off…but he’s gotta look like he’s doing it.

        All part of the package.

      • NewFormatSux says:

That’s a strange one. Chaffetz is not a flunky. He wrote a letter from his government watchdog committee objecting to Conway’s Buy Ivanka talk.

President cannot be indicted, but I don’t think that’s what he means. Obama was selling Volts as President, but that’s arguably policy.

  16. Where was Phydeaus phony outrage when: says:

A League of Her Own-Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton:

During her time as Secretary of State, overwhelming evidence shows, primarily through the State Department’s release of her emails, that she abused her official position. Those emails remained hidden from the public until earlier this year when it was discovered that Secretary Clinton conducted government business on her private email server and a judge ultimately ordered that she turn over and the State Department release the emails. Since becoming a presidential candidate, she has on numerous occasions violated campaign and ethics laws. Here are just a few examples that don’t even touch the surface of her improper behavior:

Clinton Giving Preferential Treatment Involving Son-in-Law: FACT has called for a federal probe into communications during Hillary Clinton’s time at the State Department which suggest that then Secretary Clinton gave special treatment to a private mining company as a result of the company’s relationships with Clinton’s son-in-law and donors to the Clinton Foundation.

Clinton Foundation Payments to Hillary 08 Presidential Campaign: FACT has asked the IRS to investigate whether the Clinton Foundation broke federal law by making payments of nearly $350,000 to Hillary Clinton’s failed 2008 presidential campaign to rent Clinton’s email list after she failed to secure the Democratic nomination. The transaction came at a time the campaign was paying off debt, but Clinton’s ability to fundraise was limited by State Department ethics rules.

Clinton Campaign Illegally Interacting with PAC: FACT asked the FEC to investigate illegal interactions between Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign and her PAC, Ready for Hillary, over a Ready for Hillary email list with 4 million names which the Clinton campaign received. There is skepticism about the legitimacy of this list swap since Ready for Hillary is an independent Super PAC and Federal law explicitly prohibits a candidate from coordinating with and accepting donations, including an in-kind donation of a mailing list, from a super PAC.

Clinton Violated Ethics Rules by Meeting with Senate Democrats: FACT asked for an investigation into meetings between Hillary Clinton’s campaign team and key Senate Democrats inside official Senate offices where political activities are barred.

    As usual you got nothin.

Whether or not Physdeaux or anyone else “should be” “outraged” over what Hillary did or didn’t do: what the frick does that have to do with our Sitting Orangutan?

You got: WORSE than nothing, a steaming pile of stinking ideas is what you got.

Ha, ha. good old Right Wing….. you know before you can protect Trump by attacking Failed Competitors….you gotta answer for Richard Nixon!!

………….argue the current case….. not some BS.

      • NewFormatSux says:

Answer for Richard Nixon? Bill Clinton is guilty of almost every point in the articles of impeachment issued against Nixon.

        http://watergate.info/impeachment/articles-of-impeachment

      • NewFormatSux says:

Strange thing. Richard Nixon in his autobiography apologizes for Watergate, but there is an odd vibe in his remarks, that lead me to believe what Jude Wanniski was arguing in the Wall Street Journal at the time as devil’s advocate- Nixon thought he was covering up JFK’s actions against Castro.
Nixon however does not apologize for what I consider to be his biggest crime- sending the IRS against political opponents. Nixon said he felt that was the rules of the game, and this was what the Democrats did when they were in power. Since Nixon only Clinton and Obama have done this, but before there was FDR, Truman, JFK, and LBJ. That Nixon thinks it’s the rules suggests maybe Eisenhower as well.

    • Phydeau, not actually packed with Wall Street veterans says:

LOL. You want to compare ethical violations between Clinton and Trump? Bring it on, punk. 🙄

Trump is a walking, talking, pouting, whining ethical violation.

“For the duration of my appointment as Secretary if I am confirmed, I will not participate personally and substantially in any particular matter involving specific parties in which The William J. Clinton Foundation (or the Clinton Global Initiative) is a party or represents a party, unless I am first authorized to participate,” Clinton wrote in a Jan. 5, 2009, letter to State Department Designated Agency Ethics Official James H. Thessin.

        • Phydeau, not actually packed with Wall Street veterans says:

Oh, lordy. Really? How about: Buy my daughter’s merchandise that she used to sell at Nordstroms before they canceled her, wah wah. The president and his flunkies directly soliciting business for their family. That’s about as corrupt as you can get, and it’s happening NOW. Not to mention God Knows What financial entanglements Trump has, which we don’t know because he’s HIDING all his tax returns!

          Beat it, punk. 🙄

          • Where was Phydeaus phony outrage when: says:

Here you go punk, wheres the outrage?

“A photograph of Hillary Clinton being kissed by KKK Senator Robert Byrd has been widely circulated as a political statement.

Shortly after Donald Trump declined to condemn David Duke and the Ku Klux Klan during an interview on CNN’s “State Of The Union” on 28 February 2016 (the Republican presidential candidate would later blame it on a faulty earpiece) a photograph purportedly showing Hillary Clinton with former Senator Robert Byrd of West Virginia, a former Ku Klux Klan member, was widely circulated online:

“In a video uploaded to the State Department’s official YouTube page on June 28, 2010, Clinton commemorated late Sen. Byrd by saying, “Today our country has lost a true American original, my friend and mentor Robert C. Byrd.”

Glad that racist whore didn’t make it to the Presidency.

Because Person A did X does not relate to whether or not Person B did Y.

That’s lowest common denominator thinking — a race to the bottom.

      • Phydeau, not actually packed with Wall Street veterans says:

Person A happens to be the current president of the United States, and is doing all kinds of obviously corrupt things, NOW. Blatantly, obviously, unpresidented (hah!) corrupt things. NOW. And you’re fretting over some possibly slightly unethical things done by someone else years ago, and equating them? Really? Sheesh. 🙄

        • hmeyers says:

Uh? I was agreeing with Bobbo, which probably is more or less agreeing with you.

Which gets back to why I think partisans are knuckleheads.

A partisan will evaluate who they think is the beneficiary of a statement (i.e. use feelings instead of use the brain) — instead of using logic.

The shorter version: I was saying Trump shouldn’t get a free pass just because Clinton may have.

Since you disagree with that — now what?

I have to think that Trump should get a free pass in order for you to be happy?

          • Phydeau, not actually packed with Wall Street veterans says:

Sorry Hmeyers, I wasn’t clear on what you were saying.

          • NewFormatSux says:

Yes. It doesn’t help him if Trump supporters agree with him. He needs his anger and hate.

        • hmeyers says:

The most confused people are the Republicans.

The Republicans in Washington are like “How the fuck did we end up with this guy as ‘our leader’?

He’s had affairs, never goes to church, is against cuts in social spending, wants to raise taxes on the rich for the middle class tax cuts.”

As someone who has good reasons to hate both parties, Trump is ultimate LOL train.

It’s like reality TV, with an unpredictable president surrounded by Republicans that sweat like they are trapped in a hostage situation.

Meanwhile, the Democrats complain and the media complain and Trump just does more stuff to antagonize them.

It’s quality entertainment, if nothing else.

I think both parties have done plenty to deserve the current situation, to be quite honest.

        • bobbo, there is usually some good even in bad experiences says:

Yep…Phydeaux made the equation that HM is supporting Trump or the argument made attacking clinton, when HM actually posted quite differently.

Sometimes, myself always, we read too fast.

Trump pretty consistently acts: emotionally. Its all ego: what he wants. He wants money and a God Like requirement of adoration signified by licking his ass. “Its hard out here being a Republican.” Ha, ha.

How did Trump become President and How did Hillary Lose? Easy: the voting public was TIRED of being lied to. course…. we all got lied to again, just a different set of lies.

          Hoomans like variety. Just Look.

HM: after 3 weeks, I finally got Kodi to work on my Windows PC. I’m really off and running now on the Cord Cutting deal. Probably will buy my first smart phone to work the Android TV/Kodi system thru Steam Casting but also to use in Google Cardboard.

Still arguing with Comcast….. more emotional than Trump…. and less accessible.

Saw “Candy” last night on Pluto Tv. What a stinker.

          • Hmeyers says:

Sounds like you are getting into it with the Google Cardboard and all that.

          • bobbo, there is usually some good even in bad experiences says:

Yes. Just bought the phone to do it with, then stumbled on “smart glasses” and augmented reality.

3-4000 $ for Microsoft Hololens. I wish I were more into games… but the HoloTours look good for a start. The additional “museum/historical/encyclopedia” information in the program would keep my attention for more than a few minutes….but, its an excellent start.

Saw a video with Mark Zuckerberg using Rift to have a virtual meeting with several people around the globe. Eye Popping and Brain Fizzingly good.

I just wonder how much of this kind of tech is going to leave a lot of people in the dust…… on welfare looking at flat screen tv/s???

I’ve been waiting for 30 years. Glad to catch the start of it.

          • bobbo, there is usually some good even in bad experiences says:

HM: good article. Many commentators agree saying the Tech is just too expensive for the payoff.

……..but my point was and is: its great tech at the even more expensive gadget level.

AND: I’m not buying this year or next because there just haven’t been enough programs/apps created yet to justify it.

Its like 4K TV. Even right now, my biggest complaint about HDTV is that there isn’t enough true content for it….I still enjoy seeing a true 1080P picture…so bright and clear. 4K might be even better…but only NetFlics having 10 films a year to rent doesn’t seen justified.

I am now watching 80% of what I was used to over the internet for free. I might still go back to cable…but its becoming more doubtful…..If I could get lost in a VR world.xxxHEY—getting lost in one of those virtual worlds must be here now if not soon…..those Massive Multiple Games? I actually don’t want to know….too much change for me and I’m already couch bound.
